Port of multilingual triphone acoustic models to Italian language

This paper presents the results of Italian speech recognition with multilingual triphone acoustic model s (Slovenian, German, -Spanish). The multilingual triphone models used in the experiment were ...created with use of the tree based cIustering technique. The decision tree was built with the use of common broad classes. The experiment was carried out on fixed SpeechDat(II) databases. The multilingual speech recognition system was ported to Italian language. Five different vocabulary mapping configurations were used. The influence of language group on system performance was also investigated. The best ported Italian speech recogniser achieved 55.98% word error rate. The reference monolingual speech recognition system trained on Italian database achieved 34.32% word error rate on W1-4 test set.
