  • Systemic infection with ▫$PVY^{NTN}$▫ does not severely alter meristem activity in susceptible potato cultivar 'Igor' grown in vitro
Dolenc Koce, Jasna ; Dermastia, Marina
Healthy and PVYntn-infected potato plants were grown in the stem node tissue culture to test the hypothesis that morphological changes caused by systemic viral infection, arise through changes in the ... meristem activity. Shoot apical meristems of infected plants were reduced after 18 days of cultivation while later changes in meristem sizes were less obvious. The most affected was a peripheral zone. Apical root meristems of infectec plants were more affected after 35 days of cultivation mainly due to reduced stele. Effect of the meristem activity on the observed morphological changes will be discussed.
