Influence of deformations on the result of two-point sphere diameter measurement

Measurement of small ball diameters is difficult regarding measurement uncertainty. Special attention will be paid to mechanical deformations. The deformation, caused by the measurement force, is ...critical regarding its certainty because we do not know precisely the mechanical properties of the measuring probes and of the ball being measured. This paper introduces the calculation and experimental determination of ball deformation during two-point measurement on the example of a ruby ball. Included is a comparison of obtained results. Analytical calculations were based on the mechanical material properties given by the producer of the measurement equipment.
