  • Etično sporočilo dr. Jožeta Ranta = The ethical message of Jože Rant, M. D., Ph. D.
    Štular, Dominik
Today, when the relation between the doctor and the patient has often become impersonal it is particularly important that we keep up and carry on with the tradition of the model doctors, especially ... by remembering their moral and ethical qualities. Prof. Dr. Jože Rant was such a personality who, by his workand principles, could be an example for the young generation. Dedicated tomedicine throughout his career, he started to pave his way as a general practitioner and became a specialist in stomatology, then a jaw surgeon and a specialist arthodontist. He was the organiser of public dental service in Slovenia, a founder and builder of the Dental clinic and the Faculty of Dentistry in Ljubljana, the first professor and educator of the first generation of teachers. There was only one motive to give him the strength to accomplish all the tasks he has undertaken and that was care for the patient. He reveals his relation to the patients in his farewell lecture in 1966 when he says: I received several rewards in my lifetime but they did not mean much to me. I was rewarded when I felt that I did something gooeelig of the inner peace and happiness. It was the most valuable medal that I could receive in myprofession. He advises his colleagues: Inner happiness should lead you in your work. Only then you will feel the satisfaction. You have to feel that youare a doctor such as a doctor should be, so that the patient will be proud of you. The patient will be your publicity. Not only the patient but also yourteacher, the authorities and the whole society will be proud of you. Prof.dr. Jože Rant paid special attention and care to those who suffered. He always helped the poor, the sick, the disabled and people in distress and thuspractised Christian love all the time. He did not belong to any political party, he obeyed only the oath to Hippocrates. (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters).
