  • Odnos slovenskih liječnika prema zdravom načinu života = The attitude-behaviour relation about healthy life-style among Slovenian physcians
    Manfredo, Irena
Background. medical doctors are not well explored population in the world and neither they are in Slovenia. The objective of the survey is to establish the doctor's "attiude-behaviour" relation about ... life-style and to determine whether physicians in Slovenia encourage their patients to adopt healthy behaviours through their advice and life-style. Method. We sent to the doctorswho were in 10% sample twice in a period of a month an anonymous questionnaire with 32 questions. The estimation of their life-style was done by evaluation of every single health behaviour and by evaluation of the variable "style", which represents the sum of healthy habits. Results. A totalof 355 physicians (64,8%) returned the questionnaire. of the respondents 35,8% ere overwight and among them every tenth was fat. Half of our doctors have regular breakfast, 75% have 3 or more meals per day. We have 15,8% smokers, but nobody smokes more than 30 cigaretes per wine per day only 2,5%. One forth of the respondents is physically active. 85,4% regularly use security belts in the car. More than 70% of physicians visit their friends at least once a month. Only every tenth often uses relaxation techniques. Their free-time is reserved for their family, study and recreation. Their own average life-style estimation was 3,16 (from 1 to 5), which was a little more rigorous than our estimation (3,25). They feel healthy way of life to be important to them and to their patients and they usually advise them to adopt healthy behaviours. Doctors think that patients could easily change their life-style if their doctors practised healthier life. Conclusion. Our survey is the first of this kind in Slovenia. We found out that physicians lived a little bit healthier than they thought. They are better than an average. Slovene in the point of regular physical activity and smoking, but we should be aware that non-responders could make the results worse.
