Tomorrow's day will be a great challenge for teachers, because it will be necessary to prepare a young generation for the period of information technology, for more and more increasing social ...inequality, for a crisis of values, as well as a lot of problems concerning modern society. Future education should according to the opinion of J. Delors (1996) help to overcome the tensions between global and local interests, between tradition and present situation, between long - term and short term methods, between competing abilities and care for equal possiblilities, between a remarkable development of knowledge and human capability to adapt it, between spiritual and material. In Slovenia, however, there will be absolutely necessary to save (solve) the tension between the openness in Europe and preservation of national identity. These are questions with which future teachers will have to deal with. Nevertheless, it can not be precisely foreseen, what will be required from them in the third millennium. There in no doubt that the period of post - industrial society will require professionally qualified, dynamic and flexible teachers
