  • Numerical determination of the limit state of steel plane frame in fire

    A numerical analysis of the nonlinear mechanical response of a steel plane frame subjected to time variable mechanical and temperature loadings as expected in real fire is presented. The uniaxial ... constitutive equation for steel at high temperatures have been incorporated into the computer program NONFIRE where elastic, plastic, viscous and temperature strains as well as full geometrical nonlinearities are taken into account. The numerical procedure is based on a mixed variational principle. A numerical example shows the influence of the mechanical load level on the failure time of a two-storey frame subjected to the predicted temperature development during fire. The fire resistence of a frame can be determined for a set of temperature-time curves simulating a specter of possible fire loads
