The 2 x 400 kV Cirkovce–Pince transmission line is an upgrade to the national transmission electricity network and its connection with neighbouring countries. Based on the previous environmental ...impact assessment for this overhead power line, proposals were made to improve the project and assess the adequacy of the planned construction. According to 6 (4) of the Habitats Directive and the requirements of the European Commission, an additional alternative needs to be analysed, as the European Commission considers that the stated reasons for not choosing the alternative route for the transmission lines in Natura 2000 sites was insufficiently explained. This additional analysis of possible impacts of the planned transmission line in Natura 2000 sites and other protected nature areas has the purpose of examining the alternative transmission line route and it represents an addition to the content that is necessary for decision-making at the level of the European Commission. The document focuses on individual sections of the 2 x 400 kV OHL Cirkovce–Pince (Šturmovci area, the Formin canal, and the Krapje–Melinci section), on which significant impacts of the transmission line on birds have been identified and where, in the opinion of the Commission, an undergrounding of cables might reduce the need for compensatory measures for birds while maintaining as little impact as possible on other qualifying species and habitats. Starting points for conducting additional analyzes were factors in the wider environment. Technical, technological, and environmental aspects of undergrounding the cables in this area are examined, and in addition to this, nature conservation as well as economic factors of the alternative route of transmission lines in these areas are discussed in more detail.
