    Theoretical background: To achieve and maintain health in old age and in general, there are several important factors, such as eating healthy, physical activity, relaxation, rest, avoiding stress. In ... our research we wanted to present physical activity and self care as important factors, as they have a great impact to the quality of life in old age. Method: Quantitative approach of research was used. Sample consisted of 135 elderly peole living in Carinthia region in Slovenia. We developed a questionnaire for needs of research, divided in two parts. Collected data were analysed with computer programme SPSS 24.0. Results: The average age among the participants was 68,3, more than half of them are living in their own home (60%), in the countryside (56.3 %) and they are married or they live in extramarital union (63.7 %). The most popular form of physical activity is walking, 29.6 % of participants are active every day, in 29.6 % physical activity lasts 10- 30 minutes. Majority of participants is regularly physically active, males are more physically active comparing to females. Results indicated, that highly educated elderly people have not been more physically active as elderly people with lower degree of education. Physically active elderly people expressed higher level of self-care as physically inactive. Discussion: High level of self-care is one of key factors indicating the quality of life in old age. Regular physical activity contributes to better physical fitness, flexibility, functional abilities, improvement of psycho-physical abilities, strengthens bone in muscles, helps control body weight, and helps to maintain a high level of self-care in old age.
