Theoretical background: The activity of the elderly and their leisure is important for the quality of their lives. The purpose of the diploma work is to present the views of the elderly about their ...physical activity and spending free time in institutional care. Method: A quantitative descriptive method of work was used. The research was carried out using an anonymous questionnaire developed for the purpose of the research. The sample was represented by the elderly in institutional care. For the secondary data collection we used the COBISS, CINAHL and PUBMED databases. Results: The elderly spend their free time walking, watching TV, tackling, listening to the radio, playing chess and reading. 70% of the surveyed elderly are physically active every day. Discussion: Given the health condition of the inhabitants which the survey was conducted, the results are satisfactory, as the number of active dwellers is surprising, which indicates the good organization of physical activities and leisure time by the institute. Our research provides good starting points for the further strengthening of physical activity in institutional care.
