A concept to predict tool manufacturing costs by evolutionary computation

The paper presents a new concept to predict tool manufacturing costs for different tools (e.g., punch dies. progressive lies, forming tools) on the basis of the tool input parameters (tool ...dimensions, complexity of the tool, etc.). Fast and accurate estimation of the tool costs is the principal advantage in securing orders and establishing the company's renowned. The concept proposes evolutionary computation approaches (genetic programming) to develop an equation describing the influence of the tool input parameters on the tool manufacturing costs. Also a practical example for punch dies cost prediction is given.
