The present master's thesis focuses on reported speech in French-to-Slovene translation. Researchers have found that contemporary French significantly deviates from the forms of reported speech ...prescribed by the traditional grammar. In literary texts, this is often seen in an unconventional use of typography for reported speech marking. The aim of our analysis is to examine how the translator of the contemporary literary work Les Années, written by Annie Ernaux, translated these nonstandard forms of reported speech, that is, whether she used a similarly nonstandard form in Slovene or opted for standardization. We expect that the translator will recognize the author's intention behind her choice of typographic markers or the decision to leave them out altogether, and will try to recreate the desired effect in her translation.
