Unobtrusive sensing of human vital functions by a sensory unit in the refrigerator door handle [Elektronski vir]

This paper opens new insights into short-duration photoplethysmography (PPG) in dynamic condition when opening a refrigerator. Light-emitting diodes illuminate fingers in the door handle and 512 PPG ...signals are recorded in parallel with the acceleration information, which indicates the moment of the door opening. Eight healthy volunteers participated in the experiments with opening the refrigerator's door. A Critikon Dinamap Pro 300 was used to record a referential level of their blood oxygen simultaneously. We derived novel algorithms for assessing blood oxygenation based on a very short transient segment of PPGs in the very moment of the refrigerator opening. The approach does not need either heartbeat detection or calibration. A comparison between our estimates and referential data yields the mean absolute error of 1.23 %.
