The paper presents the influence of a ventilator drive on the temperature of the driving motor. A ventilator drive usually changes the normal air flow along the motor's cooling surface, thus ...influencing the cooling of the driving motor. A thermal image of a self-ventilated two-speed three phase squirrel-cage induction motor is studied based on measurement results. Temperature rise tests of the motor in a ventilator drive and in a laboratory drive have been conducted. Measurement results show that the motor's temperature is higher when it is used in the ventilator drive. The paper concludes that the ventilator drive creates conditions in which the cooling of the motor is weakened, especially when operating at lower speed.
