  • Nadzor kakovosti dela zdravnika družinske medicine s pomočjo dokazov = Evidence-based audit in family practice
    Kersnik, Janko, 1960-2015
Medical audit has gained wide usage in the licensing and re-licensing of medical professionals. Audit is based on the presumption that there are adequate instruments in place to detect variations and ... errors and that the possibility exists to prevent them in order to achieve supreme quality According to the user of the information gathered in an audit we can distinguish internal form external audits. Peer review run by the Slovene Medical Chamber is a form of external audit, and can be regarded as a means ofsetting priorities, suggesting necessary changes and at least partially motivating providers to improve the quality of their processes. In any type ofaudit explicit criteria and standards should be used. If a meaningful audit is to be expected, it is crucial that criteria are derived from the best available evidence from the medical literature. Peer review run by the SloveneMedical Chamber will gradually evolve in these new circumstances in order to stimulate different types of self-assessment and other own providers'activities in the field of quality improvement. It will support themby making the criteria explicit, by publishing them and by providing them with quality improvement methods and techniques.
