  • Venska tromboza pri ženskah = Venous thrombosis in women
    Peternel, Polona
Since the early 1960s it has been known that female hormones increase the riskof venous thrombosis, which is still present with current low-dose oral contraceptives, and, even though in absolute ... terms the risk is small, oral contraceptives are the major cause of thrombotic disease in young women. The risk is higher during the first year (up to 1/1000 per year), with the use of third-generation progestogens and among women with a prothrombotic predisposition. Hormone replacement therapy also increases the risk of venous thrombosis, while results of randomized trials thus far do not substantiate the expectation of a beneficial effect on the risk of arterial cardiovascular disease. Venous thromboembolism is a common cause of maternal morbidity and mortality. Low molecular (and standard) heparin is the anticoagulant of choicefor prophylaxis and treatment of venous thrombosis during pregnancy.
