  • Obravnava križnega griza sekalcev s poševno ravnino, izdelano iz akrilata po direktni metodi = Correction of anterior crossbite with an acrylic inclined plane made by a direct method
Forstner, Alenka ; Kosem, Rok, 1965-
Background: A lingual position of maxillary incisors in relation to the opposing mandibular teeth is called anterior crossbite. Dento-alveolar crossbite is to be distinguished from skeletal one which ... requires complex orthodontic treatment, sometimes combined with orthognatic surgery. The aim ofthis study was to evaluate an interceptive method of orthodontic treatment for dento-alveolar crossbite of a single anterior tooth in the mixed dentitionwith the use of an acrylic inclined plane. Subjects and methods: An acrylic inclined plane was cemented to a lower incisor in fifteen patients aged six to eight years, presenting with single-tooth anterior crossbite in the mixed dentition. The plane, inclined at an angle of 45°-60° to the longitudinal axis of the tooth, was made from self-curing acrylic by a direct method. On follow-up visits, the position of the affected incisor and treatment-related signs and symptoms were assessed. Results: In all fifteen patients normal overjet and overbite was achieved after a short treatment period. In four patients the inclined plane was removed after one week, and ineleven patients after two weeks. No adverse effects or major complaints related to the treatment were noted. Conclusion: The use of an acrylic inclined plane proved to be an effective treatment method for single-tooth anterior crossbite in the mixed dentition.
