  • Epidemiološki pomen klopov v Sloveniji
    Pahor, Lilijana, epidemiolog, 1958-
Ticks as woods inhabitants are scattered all around the world. In this perspective Slovenia is no exception. Here they are to be found anywhere thereis trees and undergrowth. The tick by itself does ... not respresent any special danger. However, it is known that many ticks are infected with the tick-borne meningoencephalitis virus, Borrelia burgdorferi, Rickettsias and ehrlichiosis, which has been recently discovered in Slovenia. The agents are transmited mostly by the tick Ixodes ricinus, which is the most important in Slovenia. The most common hosts of the tick are small rodents, birds and deer.Ticks are a part of the natural environment in which the infection take palce. That is the so-called natural focal point of infection. A great part ofSlovene population lives on the country side; others like to use have outdoor activities such as recreation, picking forest goods or work. Besides from the undergrowth and the host animals, the presence of ticks is influencedalso by the climate conditions and altitude.
