Working with clay provides young children with a wide range of experiences - tactile, creative, educational and pleasurable. The responsibility for ensuring that children get the most out of their ...work rests with the teacher. However, the teacher does not always have the necessary knowledge or experience to use clay to advantage. In this book, Peter Clough discusses the basics necessary for successfully working with clay in scholl. He covers the types of clays, storage, building techniques and firing - with and without a kiln. He also points out how the use the clay can be related to various curriculum topics. To show what can be achieved, the book is illustrated with examples of the work of primary school children.
