The purpose of the current study was to determine the effect of teaching astronomy through augmented reality (AR) on the achievement and interest level of gifted students and their opinions about AR ...applications. The current study was conducted in line with the explanatory sequential mixed-methods design. The study group of the current research was comprised of 51 gifted students (26 in the control group and 25 in the experimental group) attending a Science and Arts Centre (BİLSEM). In the application process, the astronomy teaching activities supported with AR were used in the experimental group while the astronomy teaching activities suggested in the official science curriculum of the middle school 7th grade were used. The data of the study were collected by using an Astronomy Achievement Test and the Scale of Interest in Astronomy as a pretest and posttest and an AR Interview form administered only to the experimental group students at the end of the application. The statistical analyses of the quantitative data revealed that before the experimental application, the experimental and control groups were equal in terms of astronomy achievement and interest in astronomy. After the completion of the application, however, significant differences were found for both the experimental and control groups in favor of the posttest. Moreover, significant differences were also found in the posttest in favor of the experimental group in terms of both astronomy achievement and interest in astronomy. In other words, AR-supported astronomy teaching activities positively affected the experimental group students’ astronomy achievement and interest in astronomy. Furthermore, the experimental group students expressed many positive opinions about the AR applications within the categories of technical features and cognitive and affective features. The experimental group students wanted the use of AR applications in the teaching of other science subjects and other courses.

While the increasing use of social media today provides advantages in various aspects of our lives, the problems that these platforms bring also come to light. One of these is "stalking", which is a ...situation where a person uses social media to access more information about other people's private lives or experiences. Excessive stalking and sending unwanted, disturbing messages can lead to social media harassment. In addition, constantly checking people's social media accounts can lead to severe social media addiction. This study aims to investigate the situation of university students' stalking on social media. In the research, phenomenology design, one of the qualitative research methods, is adopted. Within the scope of the research, 27 students were interviewed using a semi-structured interview form. In the analysis of the data, content analysis was used. Participants' views on the effect of social media on stalking were coded by content analysis and presented in seven different themes, and their experiences were visualized with word clouds. As a result of the research, it was seen that the participants mostly act with a sense of curiosity and frequently stalk their inner circle on social media, and that stalking is more popular due to the accessibility of social media. It was also observed that individuals subjected to stalking are more anxious in their daily lives, and this makes them uncomfortable. It was concluded that excessive stalking can lead to addiction and that precautions should be taken. Based on these results, different suggestions are made about stalking on social media. As an alternative, before stalking turns into an addiction, measures such as seeking psychological support, limiting the time allocated to social media and conducting various awareness activities can be taken. As for future research, the phenomenon of stalking can be investigated in students at the high school-level, and a case study can be developed.
Günümüzde giderek artan sosyal medya kullanımı her ne kadar hayatımıza çeşitli yönlerden avantaj sağlasada, bu platformların beraberinde getirdiği sorunlar da gün yüzüne çıkmaktadır. Bunlardan biri olan “stalking”, bir diğer adıyla ısrarlı takip, kişinin sosyal medyayı kullanarak insanların özel hayatları veya yaşantıları hakkında daha fazla bilgiye ulaşması durumudur. Stalklamanın aşırıya kaçması ve istenmeyen, rahatsız edici mesajlar gönderilmesi sosyal medya tacizine sebebiyet vermektedir. Ayrıca sürekli olarak insanların sosyal medya hesaplarını kontrol etmek ileri düzeyde sosyal medya bağımlılığına dönüşebilir. Bu araştırmanın amacı üniversite öğrencilerinin sosyal medyadaki stalklama durumlarının incelenmesidir. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden olgubilim deseni benimsenmiştir. Araştırmada yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılarak 27 öğrenci ile görüşme gerçekleştirilmiştir. Elde edilen verilerin analizinde içerik analizi kullanılmıştır. Katılımcıların sosyal medyanın stalklamaya etkisi konusundaki görüşleri içerik analizi ile kodlanarak yedi farklı tema halinde sunulmuş, kendi tecrübeleri ise kelime bulutlarıyla görselleştirilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda katılımcıların en çok merak duygusuyla hareket edip sosyal medyada sıklıkla yakın çevrelerini stalkladıklarını ve sosyal medyanın erişim kolaylığı sayesinde stalklama eyleminin daha popüler olduğu görülmüştür. Ayrıca stalklamaya maruz kalan bireylerin günlük hayatlarında daha tedirgin oldukları ve bu durumun onlara rahatsızlık verdiği gözlemlenmiştir. Aşırı stalklamanın bağımlılığa yol açabileceği ve bunun hakkında önlemler alınması gerektiği saptanmıştır. Sonuçlara dayanarak sosyal medyada stalklama eylemi hakkında farklı öneriler getirilmiştir. Buna örnek olarak stalking bir bağımlılığa dönüşmeden önce psikolojik destek alınması, sosyal medyaya ayrılan zamanın sınırlandırılması ve çeşitli farkındalık çalışmalarının yapılması gibi önlemler alınabilir. Gelecek araştırmalar için stalking olgusu lise seviyesindeki öğrencilerle incelenebilir ve bir durum çalışması geliştirilebilir.
The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of Technology-Assisted Learning (TAL) and Project-Based Learning (PjBL) approaches upon students’ attitudes toward mathematics and their ...academic achievements. A quasi-experimental research design was employed including pre-tests, post-tests and a retention test. The findings of the research revealed that the TAL approach, when compared to the PjBL approach, had a higher level of effect on students’ attitudes toward mathematics. However, it was revealed that the PjBL approach had a higher level of effect on academic achievement than did TAL. In light of the findings that the present study yielded, a discussion is presented on the technology-assisted project-based learning (TAPjBL) method.

The purpose of the present research was to reveal students' perceptions regarding the use of the interactive whiteboard in the mathematics classroom within the framework of the Technology Acceptance ...Model. Semi-structured interviews were performed with 58 secondary school students (5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades) to collect data. The data obtained were encoded and interpreted using the content analysis technique within the framework of the Technology Acceptance Model-3 components. Students' perceptions were divided into categories of perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness and perceived negativities, which were names created by the researcher. Based on the findings, it was revealed that the participants had positive perceptions of the use of the interactive whiteboard in the mathematics classroom. Specifically, they found it beneficial because it enabled students to better understand the course, enabled students to be engaged in a meaningful learning and effectual engagement in the classroom, increased students' concentration, and saved time. It was concluded that the participants found the use of the interactive whiteboard useful and easy. Thus, they accepted this technology.
The purpose of the current study is to investigate middle school students’ attitudes towards Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education and to determine the predictors of these ...attitudes. The study was designed according to the relational survey model, one of the quantitative research designs. The sample of the study is comprised of 408 middle school sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. The data of the current study were collected by using a STEM-oriented attitude scale. In order to analyse the collected data, independent samples t-test, one-way variance analysis and stepwise multiple regression analysis were used. As a result of these analyses, it was determined that the students’ attitudes towards STEM vary significantly depending on the students’ gender, grade level, participation in in-school and out-of-school social activities, science and mathematics achievement. The most effective three predictors of STEM were found to be science achievement, being a 6th grader and being female. The state of being female was found to be negatively correlated with the prediction of the attitudes towards STEM. As a conclusion of the study, suggestions were made to eliminate gender-based differences in the attitudes towards STEM, to increase STEM activities in upper grades and for career planning.
The aim of this study is to demonstrate effectiveness of mobile game called SOS Table in the context of the subject "Tenses in English" within the framework of mobile learning tools acceptance, ...learning language motivation and mobile learning attitude of the students. The target group of the research consists of preparatory class students of a school of foreign languages in a state university in Turkey. The research was carried out with mixed method research. The quantitative paradigm-based section of this study was designed with a single-group pre-test and post-test model. In this model, three different scales were applied to the participants. The participants used the SOS Table mobile game developed by the researchers for 8 weeks. After the applications, semi-structured interviews were conducted with seven participants. The quantitative data of the study were analyzed with paired sampled t-Test and the qualitative data were subjected to thematic content analysis. The results of the study indicated that the mobile application named SOS Table increased both the mobile learning tools acceptance of the participants and motivation in English, and mediated the positive attitude development for mobile learning in English. The qualitative data obtained also supported these findings.

The aim of this study is to examine high school students' use of smartphones and their nomophobia levels. This research was designed using one of the mixed research methods, the Explanatory Mixed ...Method, with the combined use of both quantitative and qualitative paradigms. Nomophobia Scale was used to collect the quantitative data of the research study. 767 students from two different high schools in Nigde in Turkey participated in the research. The qualitative data were obtained from the semi-structured interviews held with 19 high school students selected from the above mentioned participants. Descriptive and explanatory statistics were used to analyse the quantitative data whereas the qualitative data were processed with the use of content analysis. The results of the study showed that high school students were nomophobic at a moderate level, and anxious about not being able to access information, losing connectedness, not being able to communicate, and giving up convenience. Moreover, it was found in the study that the participants' nomophobia levels varied significantly with regards to gender, self-reported time spent on the phone per day, grade level and duration of smartphone ownership. The participants' motivations for using smartphones were listed as communication, keeping in touch, social media and hobby. In this regard, we can recommend further investigation into psychological reasons underlying nomophobia, restrictions of students' daily use of smartphones and undertaking some measures such as implementation of awareness raising activities regarding nomophobia in schools and social life.Key words: addiction; high school; nomophobia; smartphone; smartphone addiction
The current study was carried out to determine the opinions of pre-service science teachers on the process of teaching practice conducted online. The study employed the phenomenological design, one ...of the qualitative research methods. The study was conducted with the participation of a total of 32 (17 female and 15 male) pre-service teachers attending a state university located in the Central Anatolian Region of Turkey in the spring term of the 2020-2021 academic year. The study's data were collected through the online interviews conducted with the participants and the collected data were analyzed using the content analysis method. As a result of the research, it can be stated that they encountered various obstacles in the process of online teaching practice, they had difficulty in providing classroom management and they were anxious. On the other hand, the participants also think that online teaching practice has advantages such as accessing information at the desired place and time, saving time and giving place to different online activities. In the light of these results, suggestions were made such as increasing the knowledge level of educators about online applications, providing hardware support to stakeholders and strengthening the infrastructure.
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the views of parents regarding middle school students' learning of science at home via the Educational Information Network, prepared by the Turkish ...National Ministry of Education, during the course of urgent distance education to which an immediate obligatory transition was made with the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Of the qualitative research methods, the basic qualitative research model was employed in the present study. The participants of the study were the parents of 6th grade students attending a middle school in the Central Anatolian Region of Turkey. The maximum diversity sampling method was utilized for sample selection in the study. Accordingly, the study was conducted with 17 parents of students, who possessed different features and were willing to participate in the study. The results of the research study revealed that generally parents believed that science education via EBA was beneficial for the students that the visuals and videos used during science instruction were arresting, that EBA was an enjoyable platform, and it had advantages such as the possibility to do experiments virtually.
