The paper examines the recently recognized form of entrepreneurship – lifestyle entrepreneurship – in the specific context of (post)transitional society. The key question is: are there any specific ...characteristics of lifestyle entrepreneurship and lifestyle entrepreneurs (e.g. personal characteristics, business traits, motivation, business plans and strategies, etc.) due to the specific economic and social settings. The exploratory study covers six lifestyle entrepreneurs. Data were collected in in-depth interviews. Results proven that (post)transitional lifestyle entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs are specific, especially regarding their motivation and work-private life balance. (Post)transitional lifestyle entrepreneurship includes basic features of profit-orientated entrepreneurship as an element of survival strategy.

In the context of vulnerable housing situations (homelessness and housing exclusion), the life course perspective, the concept of housing careers and housing pathways emphasise different life ...experiences, differential circumstances, and the social contexts of arriving at such a position, depending on age. Keeping this in perspective, the research identified the dominant events and circumstances that marked people's descent into one of the vulnerable housing situations across: a) youth and early middle age, b) late middle age, and c) old age. The study was conducted between December 2021 and February 2022 in the city of Novi Sad (Republic of Serbia). 35 respondents who are in one of the vulnerable housing situations took part in the research. Convenience, purposive and snowball sampling were applied, and the data was collected through a semi- -standardised, in-depth interview. The obtained results indicate the multiplicity and cumulativeness of adverse events and characteristics in the life trajectories of persons in vulnerable housing, as well as the specificity of unfavourable circumstances depending on age. In conclusion, the research confirmed the findings of previous literature in the domain of the life history of vulnerable housing and indicated possible directions for improving the understanding of this topic.
Sociological and similar researches of family in Serbian society have significant tradition. Regardless of development difficulties, criticism of its theoretical (UN) foundedness, Serbian sociology ...of family exists as recognizable scientific discipline with noteworthy authorial opus. Considering social circumstances that shaped transformation of Serbian family life, but sociology of family as well, we can speak of four major periods in its development: pre-sociological, early-sociological, post-war/socialist and post-transition/contemporary period. We have presented standing points of four authors that marked first period - Karadžić, Bogišić, Marković and Cvijić. Based on relevant references, the aim of the paper is to point out on specific circumstances that have shaped authors' perspectives, their main findings and their significance, but also to identify major similarities and differences in their analyses of family characteristics and transformation.
The aim of this paper is to shed light on the experiences of non-infected pregnant women in in Serbia during the COVID-19 pandemic and the state of emergency by applying a qualitative research ...method. The present analysis examines four aspects of being pregnant during the COVID-19 pandemic and the state of emergency: (a) pregnant women's health and health care; (b) preparation for childbirth and the arrival of a new family member; (c) working while pregnant during the pandemic; and (d) the family atmosphere and family practices. The results show that the coronavirus pandemic affected pregnant women both psychologically and socially. The following conditions had a negative impact on pregnant women: (a) worrying about both their own health and the health of their baby; (b) a significant reduction in the level and quality of health-care support; (c) a decrease in 'external' parental support as a result of the need to socially isolate; (d) difficulties in managing their professional and family obligations; (e) missing their regular pre-pandemic activities; and (f) a decrease in total family income as a result of changes to employment conditions during the pandemic. Respondents who experienced pregnancy positively had high levels of marital adjustment and a stable family income and enjoyed spending more time with their husband and children during the pandemic.

Work-family conflict (WFC) has major consequences for both work and personal life outcomes, especially for women. The COVID-19 pandemic has set the stage for deepening the already existing gender ...gaps, especially in the semi-peripheral societies, such as Serbia. We argue that working from home during the pandemic-induced state of emergency aggravated the WFC among working women. To collect data, we applied mixed research plan on a sample of 265 women. Results showed that women who worked from home experienced a greater WFC than usual since they had to play professional and family roles simultaneously. Being a sort of social crises, COVID-19 pandemic and state of emergency led to over-exploitation of female resources and instrumentalization of family relations. Furthermore, the intensity of the WFC was shaped by both women’s personal characteristics and their family/household’s features.

The youth in modern Serbian society is mostly uninterested in activism. That leads to their political atomization, privatization, more pronounced feeling of not belonging, and social exclusion. Since ...young people in villages are at a higher risk of social exclusion, a question arises as to the nature of their practices and readiness for activism. The analysis of activist aspirations of the village youth was performed on the basis of the data collected by a semi-standardized interview on the sample of 500 respondents (aged 18–29) in ten villages in Vojvodina. The results show that young people encounter numerous problems and are aware of them, but they do not take active part in their resolution. Village youth is characterized by political passivity, accompanied with the negative assessment of the efficiency of own action, as well as the feeling of social weakness.
European Capitals of Culture (ECoC) is an initiative that promotes European cultural diversity with the aim of economic, cultural, and social revitalization. Measuring complex impacts is a constant ...challenge for both practitioners and academia. Thus, the paper presents a comprehensive impact assessment framework (iECoC) quantified through an integral aggregation operator based on a novel use of fuzzy measure (Choquet integral). The iECoC results in a single number, but has an inherent value of reviling its segmented structure, which separately depicts the impact on three segments: culture, economy, and community, thus providing insights into trends for sectoral decision-making. The impact is measured in three years span on the example of Novi Sad—European Capital of Culture 2022.
This paper provides an overview and findings of the research on the social
aspects of COVID-19 pandemic in Serbia. We aimed to investigate the
immediate impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on everyday ...life. The general
hypothesis was that it contributed to changes in common rituals and
routines, especially in the areas we focused on: family and housework,
trust, the Internet use, and food practices. The study involved an online
survey on the sample of 685 respondents, adult citizens of the Republic of
Serbia. The main criterion for the selection of respondents was their legal
age. The research was conducted during April 2020. We present and discuss
the findings, give preliminary conclusions, and contextualize them within
the current studies on the COVID-19 outbreak. The general research
hypothesis has only been partially confirmed. Our findings suggest that the
pandemic outbreak has disrupted people?s habitual established practices and
strategies for managing daily life in the sense of either intensification or
the absence of certain routines.
Increased risks are inspiring context for family practices’ analysis as they can impact changes in practices, thus changing family functioning and relations. The aim of the paper is to identify ...features of the main family practices (reproduction of everyday life, partnership, parenthood) during pandemic and state of emergency in Serbian society. It is assumed that these conditions led to practices’ changes. The issue is analysed based on data collected on a sample of 265 female respondents using a combined research plan. The results showed that the state of emergency and the pandemic of COVID-19 virus induced changes in main family practices. The most common were changes in the reproduction of everyday life (especially, groceries shopping), while pre-pandemic partnership practices were the most resistant to change. Traditional and egalitarian practices showed greater resilience to change, while masculine practices are usually newly established. There is continuity in the use of “female” resources in family practices, but with a shift from this pattern towards more frequent engagement of “male” resources, due to changes in the professional roles during the state of emergency.
