Today, more and more authors are involved in researching the economic phenomenon of corruption and its impact on many macroeconomic indicators. Nevertheless, transitional surroundings have offered a ...unique opportunity in history to explore the relationship between corruption and economic growth in entirely different environment from the one in developed western economies. Researching of, at first sight, two unrelated social phenomena gave additional light on the causes of economic growth in Croatia. The researching paper also gives Croatian position among ten transition EU member countries. The corruption perception index was used as the best measuring method of corruption in Croatia and other countries while economic growth was measured by GDP per capita instead of growth rates. We explained reasons why we did so. The time period covered by the research was from 1999 to 2009 for Croatia and from 1995 to 2009 for ten transition EU member countries. Total of 137 cases were evaluated. The researching paper demonstrates the negative impact of corruption on economic growth where the strength of its influence is relatively obvious. It is also evident that the impact of corruption on economic growth is substantially a direct one and that it takes place without a significant time delay. Results for the period of research related to Croatia, more closely fit the observed data of other transition countries. Corruption could be an additional explanation (certainly not the only one) for low or high level of GDP per capita in Croatia. Misunderstanding of all the factors that encourage the economic growth may lead to macroeconomic structural misbalances in Croatian economy.

It may be well said that the most used indicator of the quality of any technical system is reliability. Basically, this indicator shows the probability of proper technical system functioning within ...certain time period and under given operating conditions. To ensure that a system under construction possesses adequate given pre-defined characteristics and reliability indicators, it is necessary to plan the reliability and apply suitable methods when new technical systems are developed. Road represents an elementary traffic subsystem, as well as a technical subsystem, constructed by the society in order to meet the communication needs. Its purpose is to enable traffic system functioning. If a road is seen as a system, one can observe the features determining the structure and the principal on which its function is based. The road functioning itself is characterized by a variety of features, the most important being the management characteristic and specific social interest, categorization structure, and roadway condition. To enable smooth and safe traffic, roads should be of prescribed technical and usage levels. Reference is made specifically to road maintenance in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.

Innovative SMEs are of extreme importance for economic development since they strengthen the competitiveness of the whole country. Their innovation depends on the degree of creativity within the ...company, and the level of creativity further depends on a variety of other factors. With the aim of examining the impact of all factors of creativity and innovation on the final product of small and medium enterprises in the Republic of Croatia, an integrative organizational model of creativity and innovation (IOMCI) has been created. It is assumed that there exists internal and external support necessary for the development of innovative enterprises. While external support includes the supportive environment of the community, such as the existence of a national strategy that encourages innovation, incentive programs of the European Union as well as the possibility of using EU funds, internal support refers to the factors that depend on the company and includes an innovative organizational culture and climate, strategy for human resource development, individual and team creativity and the leadership ready to change and connect all these elements into a meaningful whole. This paper examines the applicability of the model to small and medium enterprises in Croatia.
