The challenge of managing and extracting useful knowledge from social media data sources has attracted much attention from academics and industry. To address this challenge, semantic analysis of ...textual data is focused on in this paper. We propose an ontology-based approach to extract semantics of textual data and define the domain of data. In other words, we semantically analyze the social data at two levels: the entity level and the domain level. We have chosen Twitter as a social channel for the purpose of concept proof. Ontologies are used to capture domain knowledge and to enrich the semantics of tweets, by providing specific conceptual representation of entities that appear in the tweets. Case studies are used to demonstrate this approach. We experiment and evaluate our proposed approach with a public dataset collected from Twitter and from the politics domain. The ontology-based approach leverages entity extraction and concept mappings in terms of quantity and accuracy of concept identification.

Knowledge Graphs (KGs) have made a qualitative leap and effected a real revolution in knowledge representation. This is leveraged by the underlying structure of the KG which underpins a better ...comprehension, reasoning and interpretation of knowledge for both human and machine. Therefore, KGs continue to be used as the main means of tackling a plethora of real-life problems in various domains. However, there is no consensus in regard to a plausible and inclusive definition of a domain-specific KG. Further, in conjunction with several limitations and deficiencies, various domain-specific KG construction approaches are far from perfect. This survey is the first to offer a comprehensive definition of a domain-specific KG. Also, the paper presents a thorough review of the state-of-the-art approaches drawn from academic works relevant to seven domains of knowledge. An examination of current approaches reveals a range of limitations and deficiencies. At the same time, uncharted territories on the research map are highlighted to tackle extant issues in the literature and point to directions for future research.
•This is the first paper to provide an inclusive definition of a domain-specific KG.•We conduct a thorough analysis of more than 140 papers on KG construction approaches, covering seven domains.•The paper highlights research gaps in the area of domain-specific KG construction and suggests venues for future research.

Metaverse is now perceived as a celebrated future version of the internet. In this new anticipated virtual universe, interconnected digital platforms leveraged by augmented, extended, and virtual ...realities will elevate users' immersive experiences through multidimensional interactions. In particular, users will be offered a broad spectrum of digital activities within a newly immersive setting mediated by technology. This study aims to design a domain ontology (MetaOntology) for the metaverse to provide an explicit specification of relevant state-of-the-art technologies and infrastructure. A four-step methodological approach is followed to construct the designated ontology. Due to the immaturity of the metaverse, MetaOntology is not intended to furnish a complete outlook on the domain, rather it aims to establish a cornerstone so as to facilitate future efforts in building extant versions of this ontology considering the evolvement of relevant technologies.
In the dynamic landscape of modern education, the search for improved pedagogical methods, enriched learning experiences, and empowered educators remains a perpetual pursuit. In recent years, a ...remarkable technological innovation has asserted its dominance in education: Knowledge Graphs (KGs). These structured representations of knowledge are increasingly proving to be indispensable tools, fostering advancements driven by the growing recognition of their essential role in enriching personalised learning, curriculum design, concept mapping, and educational content recommendation systems. In this paper, a systematic literature review (SLR) has been conducted to comprehensively examine KG construction methodologies and their applications across five key domains in education. In each examined study, we highlight the specific KG functionalities, knowledge extraction techniques, knowledge base characteristics, resource requirements, evaluation criteria, and limitations. This paper distinguishes itself by offering a broad overview of KGs in education, analyzing state-of-the-art methodologies, and identifying research gaps and limitations, paving the way for future advancements.

The rise of online social networks has revolutionized the way businesses and consumers interact, creating new opportunities for customer word-of-mouth (WoM) and brand advocacy. Understanding and ...managing customer advocacy in the online realm has become crucial for businesses aiming to cultivate a positive brand image and engage with their target audience effectively. In this study, we propose a framework that leverages the pre-trained XLNet- (bi-directional long-short term memory) BiLSTM- conditional random field (CRF) architecture to construct a Knowledge Graph (KG) for social customer advocacy in online customer engagement (CE). The XLNet-BiLSTM-CRF model combines the strengths of XLNet, a powerful language representation model, with BiLSTM-CRF, a sequence labeling model commonly used in natural language processing tasks. This architecture effectively captures contextual information and sequential dependencies in CE data. The XLNet-BiLSTM-CRF model is evaluated against several baseline architectures, including variations of BERT integrated with other models, to compare their performance in identifying brand advocates and capturing CE dynamics. Additionally, an ablation study is conducted to analyze the contributions of different components in the model. The evaluation metrics, including accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score, demonstrate that the XLNet-BiLSTM-CRF model outperforms the baseline architectures, indicating its superior ability to accurately identify brand advocates and label customer advocacy entities. The findings highlight the significance of leveraging pre-trained contextual embeddings, sequential modeling, and sequence labeling techniques in constructing effective models for constructing a KG for customer advocacy in online engagement. The proposed framework contributes to the understanding and management of customer advocacy by facilitating meaningful customer-brand interactions and fostering brand loyalty.
The widespread use of big social data has influenced the research community in several significant ways. In particular, the notion of social trust has attracted a great deal of attention from ...information processors and computer scientists as well as information consumers and formal organisations. This attention is embodied in the various shapes social trust has taken, such as its use in recommendation systems, viral marketing and expertise retrieval. Hence, it is essential to implement frameworks that are able to temporally measure a user’s credibility in all categories of big social data. To this end, this article suggests the CredSaT (Credibility incorporating Semantic analysis and Temporal factor), which is a fine-grained credibility analysis framework for use in big social data. A novel metric that includes both new and current features, as well as the temporal factor, is harnessed to establish the credibility ranking of users. Experiments on real-world datasets demonstrate the efficacy and applicability of our model in determining highly domain-based trustworthy users. Furthermore, CredSaT may also be used to identify spammers and other anomalous users.

Business intelligence applications are more focused on structured data and support decision makers by providing meaningful information from extracted data mainly coming from day-to-day operational ...databases and structured external data sources. However, the volume of unstructured data is growing very fast and data analysts need to consider this kind of data especially when analysing external data such as customers' reviews and posts in social media networks and web blogs. As external data is derived from a variety of sources, it is essential to determine the reputation of the source and provide flexibility to the analysts so that they can take into account the trust value of each source in their analysis. Another important consideration is the semantics of extracted textual data from which meaningful information is derived. Ontology is utilized in order to obtain the semantics of textual data. We do not intend to develop ontology from scratch, but rather use the existing available ontologies which are collected in an ontology repository. By using ontology, entities in the extracted textual data are linked with corresponding concepts. Useful knowledge can be inferred and used in the analysis process. In summary, we propose to use the notion of trust to evaluate data sources, and use ontology to enrich textual data. The trusted external data covered global environment, the Voice of the Market, and the Voice of the Customer can be collected and store it in the current data warehouse.
Peer-to-Peer (P2P) energy trading has gained much attention recently due to the advanced development of distributed energy resources. P2P enables prosumers to trade their surplus electricity and ...allows consumers to purchase affordable and locally produced renewable energy. Therefore, it is significant to develop solutions that are able to forecast energy consumption and generation toward better power management, thereby making renewable energy more accessible and empowering prosumers to make an informed decision on their energy management. In this paper, several models for forecasting short-term renewable energy consumption and generating are developed and discussed. Real-time energy datasets were collected from smart meters that were installed in residential premises in Western Australia. These datasets are collected from August 2018 to Apr 2019 at fine time resolution down to 5 s and comprise energy import from the grid, energy export to the grid, energy generation from installed rooftop PV, energy consumption in households, and outdoor temperature. Several models for forecasting short-term renewable energy consumption and generating are developed and discussed. The empirical results demonstrate the superiority of the optimised deep learning-based Long Term Short Memory (LSTM) model in forecasting both energy consumption and generation and outperforms the baseline model as well as the alternative classical and machine learning methods by a substantial margin.

This study aims to determine the benefits, risks, awareness, cultural factors, and sustainability, allied to social networking (SN) use in the higher education (HE) sector in Middle Eastern ...countries, namely Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. Using an online survey, 1180 complete responses were collected and analyzed using the statistical confirmatory factor analysis method. The use of SN in the Middle Eastern HE sector has the capacity to promote and motivate students to acquire professional and personal skills for their studies and future workplace; however, the use of SN by tertiary students is also associated with several risks: isolation, depression, privacy, and security. Furthermore, culture is influenced by using SN use, since some countries shifted from one dimension to another based on Hofstede's cultural framework. The study new findings are based on a sample at a specific point in time within a culture. The study findings encourage academics to include SN in unit activities and assessments to reap the benefits of SN, while taking steps to mitigate any risks that SN poses to students. Although other studies in the Middle East examined the use of Learning Management System and Facebook in, HE as a means of engaging students in discussions and communications, however, this study contributes a better understanding of the benefits and risks, awareness, culture, and sustainability, associated with the use of SN in the HE sector in the Middle East. Finally, the paper concludes with an acknowledgment of the study limitations and suggestions for future research.

Semantic-enhanced recommendation systems are promising approaches to overcome the sparsity and cold-start problems, which are hard to handle using the conventional collaborative filtering (CF) ...approaches. Further research is needed to effectively integrate ontologies into collaborative filtering recommender systems. This paper proposes an ontology-based semantic similarity measure to evaluate similarities between items and eventually generate accurate recommendations. The proposed semantic similarity measure termed fusion-based semantic similarity takes into account the semantics of ontological instances (i.e. items) inferred from a specific domain ontology, which is determined by analyzing the hierarchical relationships among the instances, as well as the features of the instances and their relationships to other instances. The new measure comprehensively captures the semantic knowledge associated with instances by exploiting all possible shared semantics between instances in a given domain ontology. Furthermore, this paper proposes a new semantic-enhanced hybrid recommendation approach as a result of combining the new semantic similarity measure with the standard item-based CF to enhance the quality of generated recommendations. In order to assess the effectiveness of our semantic-enhanced hybrid collaborative filtering method, a series of experiments were conducted to compare the performance of the proposed approach against well-established benchmark techniques. The reported experimental results consistently emphasize its superiority, demonstrating enhanced predictive abilities and a notable improvement in the quality of recommendations. More specifically, the proposed approach achieved notable 6% reduction in Mean Absolute Error (MAE) in certain cases, outperforming other benchmark techniques. Additionally, this study highlights the potential of using semantic-based similarity to enhance the performance of recommendation systems. Such enhancements address challenges within collaborative filtering, potentially leading to advancements in recommendation system design and optimization.
