In this work, the computational simulation of thermal gradients related to internal lesions according to the phenomenon of pathological angiogenesis is proposed, this is based on the finite element ...method, and using a three¬dimensional geometric model adjusted to suit the real female anatomy. The simulation of the thermal distribution was based on the bioheating equation; it was carried out using the COMSOL Multiphysics® software. As a result, the simulation of both internal and superficial thermal distributions associated to lesions smaller than 1 cm and located inside the simulated breast tissue were obtained. An increase in temperature on the surface of the breast of 0.1 ° C was observed for a lesion of 5 mm in diameter and 15 mm in deep. A qualitative validation of the model was carried out by contrasting the simulation of anomalies of 10 mm in diameter at different depths (10, 15 and 20 mm) proposed in the literature, with the simulation of the model proposed here, obtaining the same behavior for the three cases.Clinical Relevance- The 3D computational tool adjusted to suit the anatomy of the real female breast allows obtaining the temperature distribution inside and on the surface of the tissue in healthy cases and with abnormalities associated with temperature elevations. It is an important characteristic of the model when the behavior of the parameters inside the tissue needs to be analyzed.
Printed circuit board technology provides a cost constrained manufacturing option for low profile inductors due to its highly standardized process, however, the transferred power is limited by the ...losses in the winding, which may produce overheating. In this work, PCB inductors are evaluated for a high power application as domestic induction heating appliances. Moreover, in the seek of flexible cooking surfaces which can adapt to the size and shape of the pot, the use of partially overlapped inductors generating coil arrays is considered. The work includes the analysis of the coupling between overlapped coils when placed under a dissipative material, a study of the losses in the winding considering rectangular cross section conductors and presents the main implementation techniques. The method is employed for the design of a prototype which was tested under real working conditions delivering up to 4.2 kW.
Anthracnose, caused by Colletotrichum spp., is a major disease of cultivated strawberry, Fragaria x ananassa. This study identifies the Colletotrichum spp. which causes strawberry anthracnose in the ...southwest of Spain. A survey of the region was carried out, and the strains isolated were identified as C. acutatum by using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with genus and species-specific primers, demonstrating that this species is currently the causal agent of strawberry anthracnose in the studied region. The pathogenicity of C. acutatum and C. gloeosporioides strains was evaluated on two principal strawberry cultivars (cvs Camarosa and Ventana) under field conditions, the latter being more pathogenic than the former.

$\nu_\mu\rightarrow\nu_\mu$ and $\nu_\mu\rightarrow\nu_e$ oscillations from an
exposure of $8.85\times10^{20}$ ...protons on target, which represents an increase
of 46% compared to our previous publication. The results utilize significant
improvements in both the simulations and analysis of the data. A joint fit to
the data for $\nu_\mu$ disappearance and $\nu_e$ appearance gives the best fit
point as normal mass hierarchy, $\Delta m^2_{32} = 2.44\times 10^{-3}{{\rm
eV}^2}/c^4$, $\sin^2\theta_{23} = 0.56$, and $\delta_{CP} = 1.21\pi$. The 68.3%
confidence intervals in the normal mass hierarchy are $\Delta m^2_{32} \in
2.37,2.52\times 10^{-3}{{\rm eV}^2}/c^4$, $\sin^2\theta_{23} \in 0.43,0.51
\cup 0.52,0.60$, and $\delta_{CP} \in 0,0.12\pi \cup 0.91\pi,2\pi$. The
inverted mass hierarchy is disfavored at the 95% confidence level for all
choices of the other oscillation parameters.
Collaboration between Industry and University is becoming more important in order to improve the competitiveness of the research and development activities. Moreover, establishing synergies to bridge ...the gap between the academic and industrial spheres has demonstrated to be advantageous for both of them.
Nowadays, Industry is moving towards an open innovation structure, in which external agents as universities play a key role. Besides, University is also seeking a more active learning methodology to improve the education of students for the real world. Considering this framework, a special effort should be done to take advantage of the collaborative work between Industry and University.
The aim of this paper is to present the collaborative framework and the benefits obtained of the educational activities as a consequence of the long-term collaboration established between the University of Zaragoza and the Bosh and Siemens Home Appliances Group. The key stones of the collaboration are presented, and the positive outcomes for the students are highlighted. The strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the proposed program are also discussed.

To uniformly determine the properties of supernova remnants (SNRs) at high energies, we have developed the first systematic survey at energies from 1 to 100 GeV using data from the Fermi Large Area ...Telescope (LAT). Based on the spatial overlap of sources detected at GeV energies with SNRs known from radio surveys, we classify 30 sources as likely GeV SNRs. We also report 14 marginal associations and 245 flux upper limits. A mock catalog in which the positions of known remnants are scrambled in Galactic longitude allows us to determine an upper limit of 22% on the number of GeV candidates falsely identified as SNRs. We have also developed a method to estimate spectral and spatial systematic errors arising from the diffuse interstellar emission model, a key component of all Galactic Fermi LAT analyses. By studying remnants uniformly in aggregate, we measure the GeV properties common to these objects and provide a crucial context for the detailed modeling of individual SNRs. Combining our GeV results with multiwavelength (MW) data, including radio, X-ray, and TeV, we demonstrate the need for improvements to previously sufficient, simple models describing the GeV and radio emission from these objects. We model the GeV and MW emission from SNRs in aggregate to constrain their maximal contribution to observed Galactic cosmic rays.
Geological storage of carbon dioxide is presently considered to be one of the main strategies to mitigate the impact of the emissions of this gas on global warming. Among the various alternatives ...considered for CO(2) geological storage, one of the main geological candidates for hosting injected CO(2) in the long term are deep porous reservoir rock formations saturated with brackish or saline solutions. Although valuable information on the expected hydrogeochemical processes involved in the CO(2) storage in such deep saline aquifers can be obtained in laboratory or modeling studies, the only direct source of information about the long-term behavior of geological storages for CO(2) in deep aquifers is natural analogues. In this work, a classical and simple geochemical methodology is successfully applied to the study of the features and hydrogeochemical processes determining the evolution of a Spanish thermal system (the Alhama-Jaraba complex), which can be considered as a natural analogue for deep geological CO(2) storage in carbonate rocks. The geology, structure, depth and hydrogeochemistry of the Alhama-Jaraba thermal system are very similar to the expected features of a potential CO(2) reservoir in carbonate materials. The processes determining the hydrogeochemical evolution in the Alhama-Jaraba thermal system have been successfully identified and quantified with the assistance of ion-ion plots, speciation-solubility calculations and mass-balance calculations. Furthermore, the feasibility of the proposed conceptual hydrogeochemical model for this system has been verified by using reaction-path calculations. Mass-balance calculation results have indicated that the observed hydrogeochemical evolution between springs is mainly due to halite dissolution and dedolomitization triggered by gypsum or anhydrite dissolution. CO(2)(g) mass transfer has been estimated to be negligible, which suggests that the main processes responsible for the variation in the TIC and the CO(2)(g) pressure during deep circulation are dissolution and precipitation reactions for carbonate minerals. All the processes identified in the Alhama-Jaraba thermal system are relevant for the long-term evolution of a deep CO(2) storage site hosted by carbonate rocks. As shown in this study, the application of classical geochemical tools provides an excellent starting point for understanding the behavior of prospective storage systems. Moreover, the existence of dedolomitization is very relevant for the hydraulic properties of carbonate aquifers potentially used for CO(2) geological storage because of the effects on porosity and, therefore, permeability during the long-term evolution of such systems. Furthermore, dedolomitization may represent a mechanism of mineral trapping for CO(2) sequestration under certain conditions.

Taenia crassiceps recombinant antigens KETc1 and KETc12 have been shown to induce high level of protection against experimental murine T. crassiceps cysticercosis, an experimental model successfully ...used to test candidate antigens for use in vaccination against porcine Taenia solium cysticercosis. Based on the deduced amino acid sequence, KETc1 and KETc12 were chemically synthesized in linear form. Immunization with KETc1 induced 66.7 to 100% protection against murine cysticercosis, and immunization with KETc12 induced 52.7 to 88.1% protection. The elicited immune response indicated that both peptides contain at least one B-cell epitope (as demonstrated by their ability to induce specific antibodies) and one T-cell epitope that strongly stimulated the proliferation of T cells primed with either the free peptide or total cysticercal T. crassiceps antigens. The high percentage of spleen cells expressing inflammatory cytokines points to the likelihood of a T1 response being involved in protection. The protective capacity of the peptides and their presence in all developmental stages of T. solium point to these two epitopes as strong candidates for inclusion in a polyepitopic synthetic vaccine against T. solium pig cysticercosis.
