We compared the efficacy of ACD-CPR and STD-CPR based on 64 multi-institutional reports. No significant differences were observed in the rate of restoration of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and in ...cardiopulmonary parameters during CPR using the two methods. There were 5 cases in which cardiopulmonary parameters improved after switching from STD-CPR to ACD-CPR and, eventually, in two of them spontaneous circulation was restored. In the ROSC cases of both groups, ETCO2 and values of SpO2, PaO2, and systolic BP at 30 minutes were higher than those of non-ROSC cases. ETCO2 never exceeded 20 mmHg in the non-ROSC cases, but it was higher in the ROSC cases. ACD-CPR is a good choice when trained persons are present or when extra hands are available to continue the CPR.
Hard diamond-like-carbon (DLC) films were deposited on aluminum alloy (JIS A6063) substrate by RF plasma CVD using CH4 and H2 as reactant gas. CH4 concentration, deposition time, and RF power were ...varied to determine preferable deposition conditions that would not cause undesirable softening of the substrate during the deposition process. The thickness of DLC film was about 4μm under conditions of gas pressure: 27Pa, CH4: 30%, RF power: 300W, and deposition time: 3h. Friction and wear experiments were conducted using a reciprocating friction and wear test apparatus. DLC film deposited under the above conditions was slid against bearing steel (JIS SUJ 2) balls to investigate fundamental friction and wear properties from room temperature to 200°C. The results were compared with those for substrate without the deposited DLC film. With the DLC film, friction and wear in the aluminum alloy were greatly reduced up to 100°C. The above results suggest that DLC film should improve the tribological performance of aluminum alloys used for sliding parts.

Single crystals of FeSe_1-x_Te_x_ (0.5=<x=<1) have been grown by the Bridgman method. After annealing them at 400 deg for 100 h in vacuum, single crystals of x=0.5-0.9 have exhibited bulk ...superconductivity. Anisotropic properties of the electrical resistivity and upper critical field, H_c2_, have been investigated for the single-crystal FeSe_1-x_Te_x_ with x=0.6. It has been found that the in-plane resistivity, Rho_ab_, shows a metallic temperature-dependence, while the out-of-plane resistivity, Rho_c_, shows a broad maximum around 100 K. The resistivity ratio, Rho_ab_/Rho_c_, is 44 and 70 at 290 K and just above the superconducting transition temperature, T_c_, respectively. The anisotropic parameter, gamma= H_c2_^para^/H_c2_^perp^ (The para and perp indicate field directions parallel and perpendicular to the ab-plane, respectively.), is estimated as 2.7 just below T_c_.
In this paper, a new signal processing method appropriate for detecting electromagnetic radiation due to the earthquake activities was proposed. The radiation is usually accompanied by background ...noises, mainly caused by atmospheric discharges in the tropical regions. A full-band differentiating filter was applied for the received data as a preprocessing. The good performance was obtained to detect a precursor signal of an earthquake by utilizing the proposed method.
