In the present work, electrochemical technology was used simultaneously for the deactivation of microorganisms and the destruction of micro-pollutants contained in synthetic urine wastewaters. ...Microorganisms (
) were added to synthetic urine wastewaters to mimic secondary treated sewage wastewaters. Different anode materials were employed including boron-doped diamond (BDD), dimensionally stable anode (DSA: IrO
and RuO
) and platinum (Pt). The results showed that for the different anode materials, a complete deactivation of
microorganisms at low applied electric charge (1.34 Ah dm
) was obtained. The complete deactivation of microorganisms in wastewater seems to be directly related to active chlorine and oxygen species electrochemically produced at the surface of the anode material. Complete depletion of COD and TOC can be attained during electrolyses with BDD anode after the consumption of specific electric charges of 4.0 and 8.0 Ah dm
, respectively. Higher specific electric charges (>25 Ah dm
) were consumed to removal completely COD and about 75% of TOC during electrolyses with DSA anodes (IrO
and RuO
). However, the electrolysis using Pt anode can partially remove and even after the consumption of high specific electric charges (>40 Ah dm
) COD and TOC did not exceed 50 and 25%, respectively. Active chlorine species including hypochlorite ions and chloramines formed during electrolysis contribute not only to deactivate microorganisms but also to degrade organics compounds. High conversion yields of organic nitrogen into nitrates and ammonium were achieved during electrolysis BDD and DSA anodes. The results have confirmed that BDD anode is more efficient than with IrO
, RuO
and Pt electrodes in terms of COD and TOC removals. However, higher amounts of perchlorates were measured at the end of the electrolysis using BDD anode.

nanoparticles prepared by the co-precipitation method. This technique is an efficient and fast technique to produce nanoparticles. ...Furthermore, those nanoparticles are metal-oxide nanoparticles with magnetic properties that enable their retrieval and reuse for mutable times and applications. The produced nanoparticles are pressed in a form of disc, and placed between two electrical electrodes, with the top electrode with a grid structure to enable gas exposure. The study includes investigations of crystal structure, composition, morphology, and charge transport. The results revel that the produced nanoparticles are sensitive and selective to H

In this article, a simple, yet effective, Bayesian scheme for tracks maintenance, promotion, and deletion in drone surveillance radar is presented. It enables the simultaneous tracking of the target ...body and micro‐Doppler components that originate from the motion of rotors (if any) onboard an unmanned air system. This not only delivers more accurate multi‐target tracking, but also substantially improves the radar automatic target classification capability (e.g. discriminating between drone and non‐drone targets). Challenging and diverse real staring radar datasets are used here to demonstrate the efficacy and benefits of the proposed track management approach.
The article presents a simple Bayesian track management scheme that can facilitate a more robust multi‐target tracking and automatic target classification in drone surveillance radar. Its efficacy is demonstrated using challenging and diverse datasets of real radar measurements.

The results showed that the accuracy value in bilingual evalution under-study score when using 1000 sentences, 2000 sentences, 3000 sentences mono corpus show the accuracy value of the bilingual evaluation under-study, respectively, namely 40.97 %, 41.80 % and 45.26 %.
With the explosive growth in computers and the growing scarcity in electric supply, reduction of energy consumption in large-scale computing systems has become a research issue of paramount ...importance. In this paper, we study the problem of allocation of tasks onto a computational grid, with the aim to simultaneously minimize the energy consumption and the makespan subject to the constraints of deadlines and tasks' architectural requirements. We propose a solution from cooperative game theory based on the concept of Nash bargaining solution. In this cooperative game, machines collectively arrive at a decision that describes the task allocation that is collectively best for the system, ensuring that the allocations are both energy and makespan optimized. Through rigorous mathematical proofs we show that the proposed cooperative game in mere O(n mlog(m)) time (where n is the number of tasks and m is the number of machines in the system) produces a Nash bargaining solution that guarantees Pareto-optimally. The simulation results show that the proposed technique achieves superior performance compared to the greedy and linear relaxation (LR) heuristics, and with competitive performance relative to the optimal solution implemented in LINDO for small-scale problems.
Polyaniline/poly(vinyl alcohol)/ruthenium oxide (RuO2) composite nanofibers were produced by electrospinning technique. Hydrous ruthenium chloride was used as a precursor at different concentrations, ...and the samples were annealed at 200°C. The morphology of the nanofibers was investigated by scanning electron microscopy. The average diameter of the produced nanofibers is between 200 and 300 nm. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy were used for the investigation of the vibration modes and structure of the samples. Differential scanning calorimeter, and thermal gravimetric analysis up to 400°C revealed the crystallinity degree and thermal stability of the samples. Impedance spectroscopy for the samples with capacitor structure was conducted as function of RuO2 concentration and temperature. The tests revealed the decrease of electrical resistivity and activation energy with increasing RuO2 concentration for the as‐prepared samples, while the annealed samples showed lower activation energy values of ~0.1 eV with increasing the concentration of RuO2. The electrical properties of the fabricated composite nanofibers could be controlled that make them suitable to be utilized in devices for energy storage applications.

The FDA granted expedited approval for Johnson and Johnson's Bedaquiline to treat pulmonary multidrug resistant tuberculosis on 28 December 2012 which is more common in China, Russian Federation and ...India. Bedaquiline is the first anti-tubercular drug approved by the FDA in the last 40 years, and it has become a cynosure in the circles of synthetic chemists researching new anti-tubercular drugs. Bedaquiline's highly lipophilic nature raises major concerns like suppression of the hERG gene, hepatotoxicity, and phospholipidosis despite its potential antitubercular profile. To address these toxicity concerns, in the present work, we have employed the structural optimization of Bedaquiline using the ADMETopt web server, which optimizes lead with scaffold hopping and ADMET screening. The ADMETopt web server yielded the 476 structures through optimization of three sites in Bedaquiline. Further, we have validated the optimized structures for their activity by performing molecular docking and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations against the mycobacterial ATP synthase enzyme and density functional theory (DFT) study further provides insight into the reactivity of the compounds. After screening and analysis, compound #449 was observed to be the most promising mycobacterial ATP synthase inhibitor with minimal cardiotoxicity, hepatotoxicity and phospholipidosis.

Monkeypox disease (MPXD), a viral disease caused by the monkeypox virus (MPXV), is an emerging zoonotic disease endemic in some countries of Central and Western Africa but seldom reported outside the ...affected region. Since May 2022, MPXD has been reported at least in 74 countries globally, prompting the World Health Organization to declare the MPXD outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. As of July 24, 2022; 92 % (68/74) of the countries with reported MPXD cases had no historical MPXD case reports. From the One Health perspective, the spread of MPXV in the environment poses a risk not only to humans but also to small mammals and may, ultimately, spread to potent novel host populations. Wastewater-based surveillance (WBS) has been extensively utilized to monitor communicable diseases, particularly during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It helped in monitoring infectious disease caseloads as well as specific viral variants circulating in communities. The detection of MPXV DNA in lesion materials (e.g. skin, vesicle fluid, crusts), skin rashes, and various body fluids, including respiratory and nasal secretions, saliva, urine, feces, and semen of infected individuals, supports the possibility of using WBS as an early proxy for the detection of MPXV infections. WBS of MPXV DNA can be used to monitor MPXV activity/trends in sewerage network areas even before detecting laboratory-confirmed clinical cases within a community. However, several factors affect the detection of MPXV in wastewater including, but not limited to, routes and duration time of virus shedding by infected individuals, infection rates in the relevant affected population, environmental persistence, the processes and analytical sensitivity of the used methods. Further research is needed to identify the key factors that impact the detection of MPXV biomarkers in wastewater and improve the utility of WBS of MPXV as an early warning and monitoring tool for safeguarding human health. In this review, we shortly summarize aspects of the MPXV outbreak relevant to wastewater monitoring and discuss the challenges associated with WBS.
Display omitted
•MPXV DNA is excreted to wastewater from skin, nasal secretion, urine, and feces.•Many infected persons could remain undetected with syndromic surveillance.•Wastewater-based surveillance (WBS) can complement clinical surveillance of MPXV.•Production of quantitative human MPXV DNA shedding data is critical.

Awake fibre-optic intubation is a widely practised technique for anticipated difficult airway management. Despite the administration of supplemental oxygen during the procedure, patients are still at ...risk of hypoxia because of the effects of sedation, local anaesthesia, procedural complications, and the presence of co-morbidities. Traditionally used oxygen-delivery devices are low flow, and most do not have a sufficient reservoir or allow adequate fresh gas flow to meet the patient's peak inspiratory flow rate, nor provide an adequate fractional inspired oxygen concentration to prevent desaturation should complications arise.
A prospective observational study was conducted using a high-flow humidified transnasal oxygen-delivery system during awake fibre-optic intubation in 50 patients with anticipated difficult airways.
There were no episodes of desaturation or hypercapnia using the high-flow system, and in all patients the oxygen saturation improved above baseline values, despite one instance of apnoea resulting from over-sedation. All patients reported a comfortable experience using the device.
The high-flow nasal oxygen-delivery system improves oxygenation saturation, decreases the risk of desaturation during the procedure, and potentially, optimizes conditions for awake fibre-optic intubation. The soft nasal cannulae uniquely allow continuous oxygenation and simultaneous passage of the fibrescope and tracheal tube. The safety of the procedure may be increased, because any obstruction, hypoventilation, or periods of apnoea that may arise may be tolerated for longer, allowing more time to achieve ventilation in an optimally oxygenated patient.
