Abstract
Voice pathology diagnosis requires extracting significant features from voice signals, and classical machine learning models can overfit to the training data, which can cause difficult ...issues and pose challenges. The study aimed to develop a reliable and efficient system for identifying voice pathologies utilizing the long short‐term memory (LSTM) method. The study combined unique feature sets such as the mel frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCCs), zero crossing rate (ZCR), and mel spectrograms, which have not been used together in previous works. Voice pathology identification improved the accuracy rate using the LSTM approach on the Saarbruecken voice database (SVD) samples. The best results achieved by the proposed system showed an accuracy rate of 99.3% for /u/ vowel samples in neutral pitch, 99.2% for /a/ vowel samples in high pitch, 99% for /i/ vowel samples in neutral pitch, and 99.2% for sentence samples. The experimental results were evaluated utilizing accuracy, precision, specificity, sensitivity, and F1 measures. Additionally, the study compared the performance of LSTM with that of artificial neural networks (ANNs) and found that LSTM achieved better outcomes.

Recently, transfer learning approaches appeared to reduce the need for many classified medical images. However, these approaches still contain some limitations due to the mismatch of the domain ...between the source domain and the target domain. Therefore, this study aims to propose a novel approach, called Dual Transfer Learning (DTL), based on the convergence of patterns between the source and target domains. The proposed approach is applied to four pre-trained models (VGG16, Xception, ResNet50, MobileNetV2) using two datasets: ISIC2020 skin cancer images and ICIAR2018 breast cancer images, by fine-tuning the last layers on a sufficient number of unclassified images of the same disease and on a small number of classified images of the target task, in addition to using data augmentation techniques to balance classes and to increase the number of samples. According to the obtained results, it has been experimentally proven that the proposed approach has improved the performance of all models, where without data augmentation, the performance of the VGG16 model, Xception model, ResNet50 model, and MobileNetV2 model are improved by 0.28%, 10.96%, 15.73%, and 10.4%, respectively, while, with data augmentation, the VGG16 model, Xception model, ResNet50 model, and MobileNetV2 model are improved by 19.66%, 34.76%, 31.76%, and 33.03%, respectively. The Xception model obtained the highest performance compared to the rest of the models when classifying skin cancer images in the ISIC2020 dataset, as it obtained 96.83%, 96.919%, 96.826%, 96.825%, 99.07%, and 94.58% for accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, sensitivity, and specificity respectively. To classify the images of the ICIAR 2018 dataset for breast cancer, the Xception model obtained 99%, 99.003%, 98.995%, 99%, 98.55%, and 99.14% for accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, sensitivity, and specificity, respectively. Through these results, the proposed approach improved the models' performance when fine-tuning was performed on unclassified images of the same disease.

Deep learning techniques, which use a massive technology known as convolutional neural networks, have shown excellent results in a variety of areas, including image processing and interpretation. ...However, as the depth of these networks grows, so does the demand for a large amount of labeled data required to train these networks. In particular, the medical field suffers from a lack of images because the procedure for obtaining labeled medical images in the healthcare field is difficult, expensive, and requires specialized expertise to add labels to images. Moreover, the process may be prone to errors and time-consuming. Current research has revealed transfer learning as a viable solution to this problem. Transfer learning allows us to transfer knowledge gained from a previous process to improve and tackle a new problem. This study aims to conduct a comprehensive survey of recent studies that dealt with solving this problem and the most important metrics used to evaluate these methods. In addition, this study identifies problems in transfer learning techniques and highlights the problems of the medical dataset and potential problems that can be addressed in future research. According to our review, many researchers use pre-trained models on the Imagenet dataset (VGG16, ResNet, Inception v3) in many applications such as skin cancer, breast cancer, and diabetic retinopathy classification tasks. These techniques require further investigation of these models, due to training them on natural, non-medical images. In addition, many researchers use data augmentation techniques to expand their dataset and avoid overfitting. However, not enough studies have shown the effect of performance with or without data augmentation. Accuracy, recall, precision,
1 score, receiver operator characteristic curve, and area under the curve (AUC) were the most widely used measures in these studies. Furthermore, we identified problems in the datasets for melanoma and breast cancer and suggested corresponding solutions.

If demand is lower than necessary, this has an impact on consumer happiness and medicine marketing. Therefore, it is necessary to find a way to predict the actual quantity required for the organization’s needs to avoid material spoilage and storage problems. A mathematical prediction model is required to assist any management in achieving the required availability of medicines for customers and safe storage of medicines. Artificial intelligence applications and predictive modeling have used machine learning (ML) and deep learning algorithms to build prediction models. This model allows for the optimization of inventory levels, thus reducing costs and potentially increasing sales. Various measures, such as mean squared error, mean absolute squared error, root mean squared error, and others, are used to evaluate the prediction model. This study aims to review ML and deep learning approaches of forecasting to obtain the highest accuracy in the process of forecasting future demand for pharmaceuticals. Because of the lack of data, they could not use complex models for prediction. Even when there is a long history of accessible demand data, these problems still exist because the old data may not be very useful when it changes the market climate.
Abstract Problem Metaheuristics are efficient algorithms designed to address a broad spectrum of optimization challenges and offer satisfactory solutions, even in scenarios of limited processing ...capability or incomplete information. It has been observed that no single metaheuristic algorithm is universally ideal for all applications. This realization underscores the opportunity for the introduction of new metaheuristic algorithms or enhancements to existing ones. Aim The aim of this work is to propose Quokka swarm optimization (QSO), a novel nature-inspired metaheuristic optimization technique. The QSO simulates the cooperative behavior of quokka animals, which can be used to address optimization issues. Method A group of common unconstrained and constrained test functions is employed to demonstrate the strength of the proposed approach. To test the performance of QSO, 43 popular test functions that are used in the optimization were employed as benchmarks. The solutions have been refining their positions in tandem with the ongoing discovery of the best solution. In addition, QSO can substitute the worst quokka with the best child found so far to improve the solutions. Performance comparisons using the Blue monkey swarm optimization, Gray wolf optimization, Biogeography-based optimizer, Artificial bee colony, Particle swarm optimization, and Gravitational search algorithm were also performed. Results The obtained results showed that QSO is competitive in comparison to the chosen metaheuristic algorithms.
The presented study suggests a new nature–inspired metaheuristic optimization algorithm referred to as Red Colobuses Monkey (RCM) that can be used for optimization problems; this algorithm mimics the ...behavior related to red monkeys in nature. In preparation for proving the suggested algorithm's advantages, a set of standard unconstrained and constrained test functions is employed, sixty–four of identified test functions utilized in optimization were applied as benchmarks for checking the RCM performance. The solutions have also been upgrading their positions based on the optimal solution, which was reached thus far. Also, RCM can replace the worst red monkey by the best child found so far to give an extra enhancement to the solutions. Also, comparative performance checks with Biogeography–Based Optimizer (BBO), Artificial–Bee–Colony (ABC), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), and Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA) were done. The acquired results showed that RCM is competitive in comparison to the chosen metaheuristic algorithms.
Speech is a primary means of human communication and one of the most basic features of human conduct. Voice is an important part of its subsystems. A speech disorder is a condition that affects the ...ability of a person to speak normally, which occasionally results in voice impairment with psychological and emotional consequences. Early detection of voice problems is a crucial factor. Computer-based procedures are less costly and easier to administer for such purposes than traditional methods. This study highlights the following issues: recent studies, methods of voice pathology detection, machine learning and deep learning (DL) methods used in data classification, main datasets utilized, and the role of Internet of things (IoT) systems employed in voice pathology diagnosis. Moreover, this study presents different applications, open challenges, and recommendations for future directions of IoT systems and artificial intelligence (AI) approaches in the voice pathology diagnosis. Finally, this study highlights some limitations of voice pathology datasets in comparison with the role of IoT in the healthcare sector, which shows the urgent need to provide efficient approaches and easy and ideal medical diagnostic procedures and treatments of disease identification for doctors and patients. This review covered voice pathology taxonomy, detection techniques, open challenges, limitations, and recommendations for future directions to provide a clear background for doctors and patients. Standard databases, including the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Saarbruecken Voice Database, and the Arabic Voice Pathology Database, were used in most articles reviewed in this article. The classes, features, and main purpose for voice pathology identification are also highlighted. This study focuses on the extraction of voice pathology features, especially speech analysis, extends feature vectors comprising static and dynamic features, and converts these extended feature vectors into solid vectors before passing them to the recognizer.
A common model for classifying images is the convolutional neural network (CNN), which has the benefit of effectively using data correlation information. Despite their remarkable success, classical ...CNNs may face challenges in achieving further improvements in accuracy, computational efficiency, explainability, and generalization. However, if the specified data dimension or model grows too large, CNN becomes difficult to train effectively with a slowdown processing. In order to address a problem using CNN utilizing quantum computing, Quantum Convolutional Neural Network (QCNN) proposes a novel quantum solution or enhances the functionality of an existing learning model in terms of processing time during training. This paper presents a comparative analysis between classical Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and a novel quantum circuit architecture tailored for image-based tasks, emphasizing the adaptability and versatility of quantum circuits in enhancing feature extraction capabilities and then final accuracy and processing time. A MNIST and covidx-cxr3 datasets was used to train quantum-CNN models, and the results of these comparisons were made with traditional CNN performance. The results demonstrate that the suggested QCNN beat the traditional CNN in terms of recognition accuracy and processing speed (process time) when combined with cutting-edge feature extraction techniques. This superiority is particularly evident when trained on the covidx-cxr3 dataset, highlighting the potential for quantum computing to revolutionize image classification tasks.

Recognizing written languages using symbols written in cuneiform is a tough endeavor due to the lack of information and the challenge of the process of tokenization. The Cuneiform ...Language Identification (CLI) dataset attempts to understand seven cuneiform languages and dialects, including Sumerian and six dialects of the Akkadian language: Old Babylonian, Middle Babylonian Peripheral, Standard Babylonian, Neo-Babylonian, Late Babylonian, and Neo-Assyrian. However, this dataset suffers from the problem of imbalanced categories.
Aim
Therefore, this article aims to build a system capable of distinguishing between several cuneiform languages and solving the problem of unbalanced categories in the CLI dataset.
Methods
Oversampling technique was used to balance the dataset, and the performance of machine learning algorithms such as Support Vector Machine (SVM), K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Decision Tree (DT), Random Forest (RF), and deep learning such as deep neural networks (DNNs) using the unigram feature extraction method was investigated.
Results
The proposed method using machine learning algorithms (SVM, KNN, DT, and RF) on a balanced dataset obtained an accuracy of 88.15, 88.14, 94.13, and 95.46%, respectively, while the DNN model got an accuracy of 93%. This proves improved performance compared to related works.
Conclusion
This proves the improvement of classifiers when working on a balanced dataset. The use of unigram features also showed an improvement in the performance of the classifier as it reduced the size of the data and accelerated the processing process.

The frequency of liver cancer is rising worldwide, and it is a common, deadly condition. For successful treatment and patient survival, early and precise diagnosis is essential. The ...automated classification of liver cancer using medical imaging data has shown potential outcome when employing machine and deep learning (DL) approaches. To train deep neural networks, it is still quite difficult to obtain a large and diverse dataset, especially in the medical field.
Aim
This article classifies liver tumors and identifies whether they are malignant, benign tumor, or normal liver.
Methods
This study mainly focuses on computed tomography scans from the Radiology Institute in Baghdad Medical City, Iraq, and provides a novel transfer learning (TL) approach for the categorization of liver cancer using medical images. Our findings show that the TL-based model performs better at classifying data, as in our method, high-level characteristics from liver images are extracted using pre-trained convolutional neural networks compared to conventional techniques and DL models that do not use TL.
Results
The proposed method using models of TL technology (VGG-16, ResNet-50, and MobileNetV2) successfully achieves high accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity in identifying liver cancer, making it an important tool for radiologists and other healthcare professionals. The experiment results show that the diagnostic accuracy in the VGG-16 model is up to 99%, ResNet-50 model 100%, and 99% total classification accuracy was attained with the MobileNetV2 model.
Conclusion
This proves the improvement of models when working on a small dataset. The use of new layers also showed an improvement in the performance of the classifiers, which accelerated the process.
