IFMIF-DONES is a facility under construction in Granada, whose main goal is the validation and characterization of materials under a fusion prototypic irradiation field. This field is created by the ...interaction of a high energy intense continuous deuteron beam and a flowing liquid lithium target. The requirements imposed on the beam at the interaction point are a complex trade-off among the scientific experimental needs for the materials irradiation defined at the top-level requirements (20 dpa in a volume of 0.3 dm3 and 50 dpa in 0.1 dm3), and the technical constraints of several systems such as the Accelerator Systems, the Lithium Systems, and the Test Systems. Recent simulations with the initial definition of beam-on-target requirements showed the necessity of redefining them in order to fulfill the irradiation needs. This contribution will address the main challenges to gather the inputs for the definition and reassessment of the beam-on-target requirements. A comparison detailing the main changes compared to the previous ones will be given, together with a short overview of the studies ongoing by different systems to analyze the impact of each beam-on-target requirements on the performance of the whole facility.
•Fusion materials irradiation.•Deuteron accelerator.•High current accelerator.•Beam delivery system.•Beam on-target.

The detrended fluctuation analysis is used to study the behavior of different time series obtained from the trajectory of the center of pressure, the output of the activity of the human postural ...control system. The results suggest that these trajectories present two different regimes in their scaling properties: persistent (for high frequencies, short-range time scale) to antipersistent (for low frequencies, long-range time scale) behaviors. The similitude between the results obtained for the measurements, done with both eyes open and eyes closed, indicate either that the visual system may be disregarded by the postural control system while maintaining the quiet standing, or that the control mechanisms associated with each type of information (visual, vestibular and somatosensory) cannot be disentangled with the type of analysis performed here.

In this work we study the effect of the nuclear tensor force on properties related with deformation. We focus on isotopes in the Mg, Si, S, Ar, Sr and Zr chains within the Hartree–Fock–Bogoliubov ...theory using the D1ST2a Gogny interaction. Contributions to the tensor energy in terms of saturated and unsaturated subshells are analyzed. Like–particle and proton–neutron parts of the tensor term are independently examinated. We found that the tensor term may considerably modify the potential energy landscapes and change the ground state shape. We analyze too how the pairing characteristics of the ground state change when the tensor force is included.

A virtual source model recently developed for external radiotherapy, which includes two photon sources 1 and two electron sources 2, is tested for stereotactic radiosurgery with a dynamic ...micro-multileaf collimator. A 6 MV Elekta Precise linac that incorporates a 3Dline L’Arancio dynamic micro-multileaf collimator was considered 3. The capabilities of the virtual source model have been tested against full simulations performed with the Monte Carlo simulation code PENELOPE using both PENELOPE itself and the rapid Monte Carlo code DPM. The reference 10cm×10cm radiation field as well as small fields of 1.2cmcm×1.2cm, 2.9cmcm×2.9cm and 5.8cmcm×5.8cm were considered. The dynamic micro-multileaf collimator effect can be included in the virtual source model by reducing the width of the photon primary source by a factor 3. In all cases the virtual source model simulations were in very good agreement with the complete ones including the linac and collimator geometries.

Preterm newborns (PN) have a higher risk of thyroid dysfunction than term newborns (TN). This condition may go unnoticed in neonatal screening due to a late elevation of thyrotropin (TSH) in these patients.
Evaluate thyroid function in the second week of life in PN of < 32 weeks gestation (WG), and to identify factors associated to its alteration.
A retrospective study was performed in neonates of < 32 weeks gestation (WG), in whom thyroid function was determined. An analysis was performed on thyroxine (T4L) and TSH levels, as well as their association with perinatal and neonatal outcomes.
The study included a total of 358 patients with mean gestational age (GA) of 29.3 weeks, and mean birth weight (BW) 1127 grams. A linear correlation was found between T4L and BW (correlation coefficient (R) 0.356; p < 0.001) and GA (R = 0.442; p < 0.001). TSH values were associated with small for gestational age (SGA 5.3 mU/L 1.5-37; non-SGA 2.89 mU/L 0.2-19.5; p < 0.001), inotropic support (Yes 3.98 mU/L 0.6-22.9; No 3.16 mU/L 0.2-37; p = 0.019) and BW (R = -0.249; p < 0.001). Nine (2.5%) patients were treated with levothyroxine, of whom six were SGA.
Thyroid function analysis in the second week of life helps to identify asymptomatic newborns with risk of thyroid dysfunction. SGA newborns are at higher risk of thyroid function alterations.

We rewrite the Random Phase Approximation secular equations in a form which allows the treatment of the continuum part of the single-particle spectrum without approximations. Within this formalism ...finite-range interactions can be used without restrictions. We present some results, obtained with Gogny interactions, where the role of the continuum is relevant.
