Abstract Sphaeromopsis jayaraji sp. nov. is described from intertidal habitats on the coast of South Andaman, Andaman Islands, the second record of the genus from India. Sphaeromopsis jayaraji sp. ...nov. is characterized by the following: epistome being widest anteriorly, with a broadly rounded anterior margin and sub-parallel lateral margins, anterior margin with widely spaced plumose setae; pleotelson posterior margin produced to narrowly rounded apex with five setae; uropodal exopod dorsal surface with two deep longitudinal mesial grooves; endopod lateral margin weakly sinuate with long setae, apex with deep mesial groove with plumose setae.

Eurydice andamanensis sp. nov. can be identified by the ...posterior margin of pleotelson being one-fourth of the pleotelson in width, weakly convex with 11 plumose marginal setae and 4 robust setae; appendix masculina 0.8 times as long as endopod, projecting slightly beyond endopod distal margin by one-third of its length, distally broad, widely rounded, curved medially and mesial margin with 4 small acute cuticular scales; Eurydice mohani sp. nov. can be identified by the posterior margin of pleotelson with 6 plumose marginal setae, pleotelson without distinct depression on anterodorsal surface; appendix masculina 0.4 times as long as endopod, projecting beyond mid-region of endopod by 0.02 of its length, lateral margin with a sinuate notch and apex is rounded.

Isopoda are one of the most poorly known crustaceans in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The present study has recorded genus Metacirolana sp. and Cymodoce tribullis, for the first time from South ...Andaman. This recent sighting provides a new distribution of this two species in the Indian province. The specimens were collected from the seaweeds of intertidal regions of Kodiyaghat, South Andaman, Andaman Islands. The morphological characteristics of these two species were described. Furthermore, this study adds two more species to the isopoda check list of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The present study also provides additional information on epifaunal communities associated with the seaweeds in the intertidal region of Kodiyaghat, South Andaman.
Cirolana swaraj sp. nov. was collected from brackish-water Neil Lagoon on Havelock Island, South Andaman and is described and illustrated in detail. Cirolana swaraj sp. nov. can be distinguished by: ...frontal lamina 2.2 times as long as greatest width, lateral margins slightly widening to rounded anterior margin; pereonite 1 dorsal anterior mid-region with convex boss covered with fine ridges, pereonites 17 each with a single transverse impressed line, posterior margin with 18, 18, 17 and 12 tubercles on pereonites 47 dorsal posterior margins respectively; pleonites 45 each with prominent median tubercle, 4 and 2 tubercules on each side of pleonites 45; pleotelson dorsal surface with sub-median double row of 5 tubercules, posterior lateral margins straight, posterior margin narrowly rounded with 6 robust setae and plumose marginal setae extending anteriorly to mid-length; uropodal exopod lateral margin with eight robust setae and a continuous row of plumose marginal setae. A key to the marine and estuarine genera of Cirolanidae of the northern Indian Ocean is given.

Corallana mishrai sp. nov. collected from dead mangrove roots at Kodiyaghat, South Andaman, Andaman Islands, India is described and illustrated in detail. Corallana mishrai sp. nov. the first ...definitive record of the genus from India, is characterized by: frontal lamina with short straight (or very weakly convex) lateral margins and the anterior margin forming a strong acute median point; pleotelson length 0.76 greatest width, posterior margin with 5 robust setae; uropodal exopod 7 times longer than greatest width, extending beyond endopod by one fourth of its length; endopod lateral margin slightly convex with 4 RS and PMS, apex forms a slightly obtuse angle with long simple setae, mesial margin weakly convex with 2 RS and PMS; mandible bidentate; transverse row of 6 tubercles present on pereonite 1 and pleonites 2, 3 and 4 lacking lateral tubercles. The status of the genus and its species are reviewed, and two species are transferred to new combinations: Argathona kulai (Bruce, 1982) comb. nov. and Tachaea bidentata (Jones et al. 1983) comb. nov.
A new host of Cymothoid isopod, Nerocila sp. was identified from the dorsal surface of the body (caudal peduncle) of Lutjanidae fish Lutjanus gibbus (Forsskal, 1775) which is a new host record of ...isopod parasite Nerocila sp. from the coastal waters of South Andaman, Andaman Islands. This study revealed the first occurrence of this parasitic isopod (Nerocila sp.) from Andaman and Nicobar Islands. A comprehensive summary of the nominal Nerocila species recorded on different host species is provided. The present finding adds another species of isopod to the checklist of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
We report the realization of graphene nanoribbon (GNR) transistors with ION/IOFF ratio of 2 × 107 and electron and hole mobilities of 400 cm2/V.s and 1100 cm2/V.s respectively at 6 K. The nanoribbons ...were fabricated by Pt catalyzed etching of mechanically exfoliated graphene in hydrogen ambient. The performance parameters obtained are some of the best values ever reported. The high performance indicates the highly smooth edges along crystallographic directions in GNR obtained by the catalytic etching process.

Present review emphatically introduces the synthesis, biocompatibility, and applications of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), including their antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antifungal properties. A ...comprehensive discussion of various synthesis methods for AgNPs, with a particular focus on green chemistry mediated by plant extracts has been made. Recent research has revealed that the optical properties of AgNPs, including surface plasmon resonance (SPR), depend on the particle size, as well as the synthesis methods, preparation synthesis parameters, and used reducing agents. The significant emphasis on the use of synthesized AgNPs as antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antifungal agents in various applications has been reviewed. Furthermore, the application areas have been thoroughly examined, providing a detailed discussion of the underlying mechanisms, which aids in determining the optimal control parameters during the synthesis process of AgNPs. Furthermore, the challenges encountered while utilizing AgNPs and the corresponding advancements to overcome them have also been addressed. This review not only summarizes the achievements and current status of plant-mediated green synthesis of AgNPs but also explores the future prospects of these materials and technology in diverse areas, including bioactive applications.

Biofloc technology (BFT) is an intensive sustainable farming technique that increases the carrying capacity of the culture system by controlling the C/N ratio. The present study aims to assess the ...potentiality of BFT for intensive nursery production of Labeo rohita spawn (6–8.5 mm). The assessment was done at different stocking densities, that is, 1 (D1), 2 (D2), 3 (D3), 4 (D4) and 5 (D5) spawn/L (study I) and at different C/N ratios, that is, 10:1, 15:1 and 20:1 (study II), by evaluating survival, growth, feed utilization and biochemical composition of spawn in biofloc culture system. The cultures reached at the end of 20 days showed a higher mean survival rate, that is, 89%, 91.38% and 80.4% in D1, D2 and D3 respectively. Moreover, these BFT groups exhibited spearheading growth in terms of final length, final weight and specific growth rate. The coefficient of variation and food conversion ratio was lowest in D2, but the highest production was achieved in D3. In study II, the biofloc culture (at 2 spawn/L density) with C/N ratio >15:1 effectively reduced the total ammoniacal and nitrite nitrogen and produced in situ live food adequately. In addition, the C/N ratio showed an interactive effect on the growth performance of fish by the substantial increase in final length, weight gain percentage, specific growth rate and feed utilization in C/N 20 and 15 groups than that in C/N 10 group. The crude protein and lipid level of biofloc in C/N 20 and 15 treatments was notably higher than in other treatments. The findings suggest that the BFT can be effectively applied to enhance the nursery production of L. rohita, preferably at 2–3 spawn/L stocking density and 15:1C/N ratio.
