This study aims to examine the flood propensity of the main watercourse of São Vicente drainage basin and, if relevant, to propose two methodologies to alleviate the impacts, i.e., detention basin ...sizing and riverbed roughness coefficient adjustment. Geomorphological data were obtained from the watershed characterization process and used through the SIG ArcGIS software for the flood propensity assessment and then for the calculation of the expected peak flow rate for a return period of 100 years through the Gumbel Distribution. Subsequently, the drainage capacity of the river mouth was verified using the Manning-Strickler equation, in order to establish whether the river mouth of the watershed has the capacity to drain the entire volume of rainwater in a severe flood event. In summary, it was possible to conclude that São Vicente’s watershed river mouth is not able to completely drain the rain flow for the established return period. Thus, its drainage capacity was guaranteed by modifying the walls and streambed roughness coefficient and by sizing the detention basin using the Dutch and the Simplified Triangular Hydrograph methods.

Typical V-bending process was performed to investigate the effects of holding force on springback behavior of 1050-H14 aluminum alloy plates annealed at 120 ̊C for 20 minutes. Tests were conducted on ...a universal testing machine with 60o V-bending mold. Various holding forces (2.25 kN which is slightly higher than the required force for bending operation, 5 kN, 10 kN and 15kN) were applied at the end of the bending processes to investigate the hardening effect on springback values. The test results showed that annealing decreases springback values in all anisotropy directions. It is also clear from the test data that application of holding force has a significant affirmative effect on springback values.

An integrated approach to understanding all measured pollutants with multi-discipline in different time scales and understanding the mechanisms hidden under low air quality (AQ) conditions is ...essential for tackling potential air pollution issues. In this study, the air pollution of Sivas province was analyzed with meteorological and PM
2.5
data over six years to assess the city’s AQ in terms of PM
2.5
pollution and analyze the effect of meteorological factors on it. It was found that the winter period (January–February-November–December) of every year except 2019—which has missing data—is the period with the highest air pollution in the province. In addition, the days exceeding the daily PM
2.5
limit values in 2016, 2017, 2020, and 2021 were also seen in the spring and summer months, which inclined the study to focus on additional pollutant sources such as long-range dust transport and road vehicles. The year 2017 has the highest values and was analyzed in detail. Pollution periods with the most increased episodes in 2018 were analyzed with the Hybrid Single-Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory (HYSPLIT) and Dust Regional Atmospheric Model (DREAM) models. As a result of the study, the average PM
2.5
values in 2017 were 31.66 ± 19.2 µg/m
3
and a correlation of −0.49 between temperature and PM
2.5
. As a result of model outputs, it was found that the inversion is intensely observed in the province, which is associated with an increase of PM
2.5
during the episodes. Dust transport from northwestern Iraq and northeastern Syria is observed, especially on days with daily average PM
2.5
values above 100 µg/m
3
. Additionally, planetary boundary layer (PBL) data analysis with PM pollution revealed a significant negative correlation (
r
= −0.61). Air pollutants, particularly PM
2.5
, were found to be higher during lower PBL levels.

Sulfonamides represent a significant class of biologically active compounds that inhibit carbonic anhydrase (CA, EC.: 4.2.1.1) isoenzymes involved in different pathological and ...physiological events. Sulfonamide CA inhibitors are used therapeutically as diuretic, antiglaucoma, antiobesity and anticancer agents. A series of new sulfonamides were synthesized using imides and tosyl chloride as starting materials. These N-acylsulfonamides efficiently inhibited the cytosolic human carbonic anhydrase isoenzymes I, and II (hCA I, and II), with nanomolar range inhibition constants ranging between 36.4±6.0–254.6±18.0 and 58.3±0.6–273.3±2.5nM, respectively.

The pituitary gland plays an important role in the stress response mechanism. Given the direct link between adjustment disorder and stress, we hypothesized that there might be changes in the ...pituitary gland in these patients. The study comprised a patient group of 19 individuals with adjustment disorder according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fifth Edition, and 18 healthy controls. The mean pituitary gland volumes of the patient group were not statistically significantly different from those of the healthy control group (80.81 ± 1.82 mm3 in patients with adjustment disorder vs. 81.10 ± 7.04 mm3 in healthy controls, with a statistically nonsignificant difference of P > 0.05). This finding is contrary to our previous findings in anxiety-related disorders. In this regard, adjustment disorder is not similar to anxiety-related disorders in terms of pituitary gland volumes. We should also clearly state that our study is a pioneering study and that studies with large samples are needed to support our findings. The limitations of our study can be attributed to the small sample size, the utilization of a cross-sectional design, and the inclusion of patients using psychotropic drugs.
Purpose
New coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has a worse prognosis in patients with diabetes. However, there are insufficient data about the effect of hyperglycemia on COVID-19 prognosis in ...non-diabetic patients. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between random blood glucose levels measured at the time of diagnosis and prognosis of COVID-19 disease in non-diabetic patients.
Methods
A nationwide retrospective cohort of non-diabetic patients with confirmed COVID-19 infection from 11 March to 30 May 2020 in the Turkish Ministry of Health database was investigated. The patients were stratified into three groups according to blood glucose levels which were <100 mg/dL in group-1, in the range of 100–139 mg/dl in group-2, and the range of 140–199 mg/dl in group-3. Clinical characteristics and outcomes were compared among the groups. The primary outcome was mortality.
Results
A total of 12,817 non-diabetic patients (median age IQR: 44 25 years, females: 50.9%) were included. Patients in group-2 (5%) and group-3 (14%) had higher mortality rates than patients in group-1 (2.1%). The rates of hospitalization, hospital stays longer than 8 days, intensive care unit (ICU) admission, ICU stay more than 6 days, and mechanical ventilation were also significantly higher in group-3 patients. Likewise, glucose levels in the range of 140–199 mg/dL were an independent associate of mortality and composite of ICU admission and/or mechanical ventilation.
Conclusion
Hyperglycemia at the time of COVID-19 diagnosis is associated with poor prognosis in non-diabetic patients. Clinicians should be more careful in the treatment of non-diabetic COVID-19 patients with hyperglycemia.

Background
There are scarce published data in differentiated thyroid cancer patients about new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) disease outcomes and mortality. Here, we evaluated COVID‐19 ...infection outcomes and mortality in thyroid cancer patients with COVID‐19 infection.
Design and methods
We included a cohort of patients with thyroid cancer with PCR‐confirmed COVID‐19 disease from 11 March to 30 May 2020 from the Turkish Ministry of Health database in our nationwide, retrospective study. We compared the mortality and morbidity of COVID patients with or without thyroid cancer. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to assess the independent factors for mortality, length of hospital stay and intensive care unit (ICU) admission and mechanical ventilation. We also analysed the effect of radioiodine treatment on severity and death rate of COVID‐19 disease.
Results
We evaluated 388 COVID‐19 patients with thyroid cancer median age: 54 years, interquartile range (IQR) 18 years, males: 23% and age and gender‐matched 388 COVID‐19 patients without thyroid cancer. Patients with thyroid cancer had a similar mortality ratio compared with the non‐cancer group. Among patients with thyroid cancer, age, presence of diabetes mellitus, asthma/COPD, heart failure, chronic kidney disease, prior coronary artery disease, RAS blocker usage and low lymphocyte count were associated with mortality. Radioactive iodine (RAI) treatment and cumulative radioactive iodine dosage did not negatively affect the severity and mortality of COVID‐19 disease in our patient group.
Conclusions
Our study indicated that history of thyroid cancer did not have an increased risk of mortality or morbidity in COVID‐19 disease. Besides, RAI therapy history and doses of radioactive iodine did not affect mortality or outcome.

Oxazolidinones are used as various potent antibiotics, in organisms it acts as a protein synthesis inhibitor, focusing on an initial stage that encompasses the tRNA binding process. Novel ...intramolecular aza-Michael reactions devoid of metal catalysts have been introduced in an oxazolidone synthesis pathway, different from α,β-unsaturated ketones. Oxazolidinone derivatives were tested against acetylcholinesterase (AChE), carbonic anhydrase I and II (hCA I and hCA II) enzymes. All the synthesized compounds had potent inhibition effects with Ki values in the range of 13.57 ± 0.98 - 53.60 ± 6.81 µM against hCA I and 9.96 ± 1.02 - 46.35 ± 3.83 µM against hCA II in comparison to the acetazolamide (AZA) (
= 50.46 ± 6.17 µM for hCA I) and for hCA II (
= 41.31 ± 5.05 µM). Also, most of the compounds demonstrated potent inhibition ability towards AChE enzyme with
values 78.67-231.75 nM and compared to tacrine (TAC) as standard clinical inhibitor (
= 142.48 nM). Furthermore, ADMET analysis and molecular docking were calculated using the AChE, hCA I and hCA II enzyme proteins to correlate the data with the experimental data. In this work, recent applications of a stereoselective aza-Michael reaction as an efficient tool for of nitrogen-containing heterocyclic scaffolds and their useful to pharmacology analogs are reviewed and summarized.Communicated by Ramaswamy H.
