In the present study, activated flyash -- a low-cost adsorbent, is used as for Cr(VI) removal from aqueous solutions. Flyash is activated by giving heat treatment and with the use of concentrated ...sulfuric acid (98% w/w). Batch adsorption experiments are carried out to investigate the effect of influencing process parameters such as initial pH, change in pH during adsorption, contact time, adsorbent amount, and initial Cr(VI) concentration. The maximum adsorption of Cr(VI) on activated flyash is found at an initial pH value of 1. The value of pH increases with increase in adsorption of Cr(VI). The equilibrium data for adsorption of Cr(VI) on activated flyash is tested with different adsorption isotherm models such as Langmuir, Freundlich, Redlich-Peterson, Koble-Corrigan, Tempkin, Dubinin-Radushkevich and generalized isotherm models. The Koble-Corrigon isotherm model is found to be the most suitable one for Cr(VI) adsorption using activated flyash. The maximum adsorption capacity obtained is 21.9 mg g super(-1) at a pH value of 1. The adsorption process follows the second order kinetics and the corresponding rate constants are obtained at different initial Cr(VI) concentrations. Desorption of Cr(VI) from activated flyash using acid and base treatment shows a higher desorption efficiency by more than 85%. A feasible methodic solution for the disposal of contaminant (acid and base solutions) containing high concentration of Cr(VI) obtained during the desorption process is proposed.
Stroke is a major public health problem all over the globe, especially in low and middle-income countries like India. In the urban areas of India, the disease has grown to epidemic proportions. The ...underprivileged residents in urban slum areas have poor health literacy, usually resulting in poor health-seeking behaviours. Hence, efforts towards stroke prevention and risk factor control are critical in urban slum areas. The objective of the study was to assess the awareness about stroke among adults residing in the urban slum area of Bangalore, India. A cross-sectional survey was conducted using a mixed-methods approach, where data were collected from 490 adults using self-reported questionnaires. Over half of the participants (52%) did not know that the brain is the primary organ affected by stroke. Hypertension (44.9%) and diabetes mellitus (23.6%) were the most cited risk factors by participants. In binary logistic regression analysis, higher education was a predictor of stroke awareness (OR 0.65, p=0.02). Several misconceptions about stroke risk factors were identified among the participants. Poor awareness about stroke and its risk factors among the underprivileged urban population is demonstrated in this study. The study highlights the need to develop and implement strategies and programmes to improve awareness about stroke for the whole community.
We report the fabrication and analytical performance studies of electrochemical sensors based on hydrothermally grown 3D MoS2‐microflower‐modified Glassy Carbon (GCE) and Carbon Paste Electrodes ...(CPE) for the sensitive detection of the insecticide imidacloprid (IMI). As compared to MoS2/GCE, the fabricated MoS2/CPE demonstrates a faster electron transfer and better catalytic ability. MoS2/CPE sensor delivers its best performance towards the determination of IMI in PBS solution of pH 7.4, owing to its porous nature which can accommodate a higher number of active electrochemical reaction sites. The sensor exhibits a sensitivity value of 2.296 μA μM−1 cm−2 with lower detection and quantification limits of 12±0.24 nM and 40±0.8 nM respectively. The proposed sensor also exhibits linearity in the detection of IMI from 1 to 100 μM.
3D architectured MoS2‐microflowers were synthesised by a simple hydrothermal method. MoS2‐modified carbon paste electrodes were fabricated for the sensitive and selective detection of the insecticide Imidacloprid. Voltammetric studies demonstrated the excellent stability and electrocatalytic activity of MoS2/CPE for IMI reduction. MoS2‐microflower‐modified electrodes improve the sensing parameters by facilitating better electron transfer dynamics and providing a huge number of active sites for the electrocatalytic reduction of IMI. The optimized sensor has also shown reproducible results and can be utilized for practical applications.

Introduction: Nursing education is based on experiential learning. This study aimed to understand undergraduate nursing students' perceptions and experiences of online learning during the COVID-19 ...pandemic. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among undergraduate nursing students using a questionnaire that was developed for the study. Results: Majority of the students (72.5%) agreed that the learning experience through online classes met their expectations. However, 73.3% opined that they prefer traditional face-to-face classes over online classes. On a scale of 0-10, the mean score for the effectiveness of learning practical procedures through online sessions was 4.7 (S.D 2.3). The most important challenge faced by the students included connectivity issues and fear of the negative impact of online classes on health. Conclusion: Even though online classes were a viable option during the COVID-19 pandemic, undergraduate nursing students prefer traditional in-person education to the online mode of learning.

The classical Plancherel theorem asserts that the Fourier-Plancherel transform is an isomorphism between ℒ²(R) onto ℒ²(R). On the other hand, in the literature the theory of Fourier transform is ...extended to the space of ℒ¹ Boehmians and also to the space of tempered Boehmians. In this paper we shall introduce two types of Boehmians, each of which contains vector valued square integrable functions on R as a dense subspace and extend the theory of Fourier transform to this set up. Finally we prove that this extended Fourier transform is a one-to-one continuous linear map of one space of Boehmians onto the other.
