Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM) consists in measuring the electricity consumption using a power consumption data acquisition system, typically placed in the main supply of the building. Relying ...on a single point of measure it is also called one-sensor metering in contrast to the common metering hardware that can be embedded in each appliance (electronic metering ore-metering) and in differentiation with the common utility smart meters. NILM is the process in which you are able to disaggregate a set of energy readings over a period of time to determine exactly what appliances have used the power and how much power each appliance has used during that time period. In this work a supervised classification method was employed for offline appliances classification, based on low frequency power consumption. The classification feature set consists of the true power, reactive power, and the step changing of the true power. Multiple classifiers were tested and evaluated, such as Decision Tree, Nearest Neighbor, Discriminant Analysis, and the multilayer Feed-forward Neural Network classifier. The methods were tested on the ACS-F2 appliance consumption signatures database.

In this paper, a recurrent neural network for both convex and nonconvex equality-constrained optimization problems is proposed, which makes use of a cost gradient projection onto the tangent space of ...the constraints. The proposed neural network constructs a generically nonfeasible trajectory, satisfying the constraints only as t rarr infin. Local convergence results are given that do not assume convexity of the optimization problem to be solved. Global convergence results are established for convex optimization problems. An exponential convergence rate is shown to hold both for the convex case and the nonconvex case. Numerical results indicate that the proposed method is efficient and accurate.
This article presents the overall design methodology followed for an open source Wireless Sensor Networking platform that aims at the remote energy monitoring of home appliances in real-time using ...web technologies. This platform can be a paradigm for building open source devices for smart metering and home energy management by controlling electric loads, thus contributing to the development of the smart grid infrastructure. The Polytropon platform is designed as a research tool for experimenting with the various hardware and software components that can be integrated in the nodes, by following the open source hardware and software guidelines for development.

A recurrent neural network for equality constrained optimization problems is proposed, which makes use of a cost gradient projection onto the tangent space of the constraints. The proposed neural ...network constructs a generically non-feasible trajectory, satisfying the constraints only as t /spl rarr/ /spl infin/. Generalized convergence results are given which do not assume convexity of the optimization problems to be solved. Convergence in the usual sense is obtained for convex optimization problems. A circuit realization of the proposed architecture is given to indicate practical implementability of our neural network. Numerical results indicate that the proposed method is efficient and accurate.
A wide range of electronic equipment uses Uninterruptible Power System units in order to continue operating in case there is loss of power supply. Due to their battery, the Uninterruptible Power ...Systems guarantee that the electronic device will operate autonomously for a certain period of time. In this work, an automatic charger/regulator circuit for a lead- acid battery is developed. The charger/regulator circuit consists of the battery charger, the electronic circuit that supplies the load with DC voltage and the circuit that protects the battery from deep discharge. The specifications of the aforementioned circuit are appropriate for the DC voltage supply of a pharos's lighting device (fluorescent lamps). The charger/regulator circuit charges the battery via the 230V AC mains voltage in order to supply the lighting device (load) with 12V DC. In case the mains voltage is interrupted, the battery continues to supply the load with 12V DC. The battery stops to supply the load when its voltage becomes less than 9.5V, in order to avoid damage due to deep discharge. (5 pages)
The Institute of Accelerating Systems and Applications (IASA) is pursuing research and facilitates postgraduate studies in traditional and cross-disciplinary areas where accelerators play an ...important role. The first major facility of IASA, now under construction, is a 242 MeV two-stage CW cascade microtron. During the ongoing period of civil construction a staging area has been set up for the installation of the injector and the testing of several key subsystems. A progress report on this project is presented here.
