Diagnosing symptoms of psychological distress can be challenging in migrants living with HIV (MLWH) living in Western Europe. We evaluated the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) as a ...screening tool for psychological distress. Additionally, the association between psychological distress and adherence to combination Antiretroviral Therapy (cART) was determined. Socio-demographic and clinical characteristics, psychosocial variables, and self-reported adherence to cART data were collected. 306/352 participants completed the HADS. A HADS+ (≥15, at risk for psychological distress) was found in 106/306. The Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI) was completed by 60/106. The HADS was repeated in 58 participants as the time between the first HADS and the CIDI was more than three months. In 21/37 participants with a HADS+ (57%) within three months before the CIDI a diagnosis of depression or anxiety disorder based on the CIDI was found. Participants with a HADS+ were more likely to be non-adherent (71.3% vs. 43.6%). In a large group of MLWH in the Netherlands, 35% were at risk for symptoms of psychological distress. The HADS seems to be a suitable screening tool for MLWH.

Background. As a result of effective combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) and advanced supportive healthcare, a growing number of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)–infected children survive ...into adulthood. The period of transition to adult care is often associated with impaired adherence to treatment and discontinuity of care. We aimed to evaluate virological and social outcomes of HIV-infected adolescents and young adults (AYAs) before and after transition, and explore which factors are associated with virological failure. Methods. We included 59 HIV-infected AYAs from the Netherlands who had entered into pediatric care and transitioned from pediatric to adult healthcare. We used HIV RNA load and cART data from the Dutch Stichting HIV Monitoring database (1996–2014), and collected social and treatment data from patients' medical records from all Dutch pediatric HIV treatment centers and 14 Dutch adult treatment centers involved. We evaluated risk factors for virological failure (VF) in a logistic regression model adjusted for repeated measurements. Results. HIV VF occurred frequently during the study period (14%–36%). During the transition period (from 18 to 19 years of age) there was a significant increase in VF compared with the reference group of children aged 12–13 years (odds ratio, 4.26 95% confidence interval, 1.12–16.28; P = .03). Characteristics significantly associated with VF were low educational attainment and lack of autonomy regarding medication adherence at transition. Conclusions. HIV-infected AYAs are vulnerable to VF, especially during the transition period. Identification of HIV-infected adolescents at high risk for VF might help to improve treatment success in this group.

Delayed cord clamping (DCC) has been recently adopted in neonatal resuscitation. The immediate cardiac hemodynamic effects related to DCC more than 30 seconds was not studied. We aimed to study the ...effect of DCC at 120 seconds compared with 30 seconds on multiple hemodynamic variables in full-term infants using an electrical cardiometry (EC) device.
Present study is a randomized clinical trial. The study was conducted with full-term infants who were delivered at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department in Cairo University Hospital. Sixty-eight full term infants were successfully enrolled in this trial. Cardiac output (CO) and other hemodynamic parameters were evaluated in this study by EC device. Hemoglobin, glucose, and bilirubin concentrations were measured at 24 hours. Newborn infants were assigned randomly into group 1: DCC at 30 seconds, and group 2: DCC at 120 seconds, based on the time of cord clamping.
Stroke volume (SV) (mL) and CO (L/min) were significantly higher in group 2 compared with group 1 at 5 minutes (6.71 vs. 5.35 and 1.09 vs. 0.75), 10 minutes (6.43 vs. 5.59 and 0.88 vs. 0.77), 15 minutes (6.45 vs. 5.60 and 0.89 vs. 0.76), and 24 hours (6.67 vs. 5.75 and 0.91vs. 0.81), respectively. Index of contractility (ICON; units) was significantly increased in group 2 at 5 minutes compared with group1 (114.2 vs. 83.8). Hematocrit (%) and total bilirubin concentrations (mg/dL) at 24 hours were significantly increased in group 2 compared with group 1 (51.5 vs. 40.5 and 3.8 vs. 2.9, respectively).
Stroke volume and cardiac output are significantly higher in neonates with DCC at 120 seconds compared with 30 seconds that continues for the first 24 hours.

Levofloxacin and 4‐aminoantipyrine undergo a condensation process to synthesize a novel Schiff base ligand (L). Metal complexes containing Co(II), Cu(II), Cd(II), Mn(II), Zn(II), Cr(III), Ni(II), and ...Fe(III) metal ions are prepared using this Schiff base ligand. The new ligand and its complexes are characterized by elemental analyses, Fourier transform infrared, mass spectrometry, ultraviolet–visible, magnetic moment, 1 H‐NMR, molar conductivity, and powder X‐ray diffraction, and further thermogravimetric analysis (TG, DTA) verifies their thermal stability. The metal to ligand ratio is 1:1, according to the analytical results. Spectroscopic methods reveal that metal complexes are expected to have an octahedral geometry and demonstrate a neutral tridentate ligand behavior. It also becomes apparent from the molar conductivity values that all metal complexes are electrolytic in nature except zinc(II) and cadmium(II) complexes which are non‐electrolytes. Moreover, the bioactivity of the compounds are investigated. The antibacterial activity is investigated in relation to various Gram ‐positive and Gram ‐negative bacteria. The results give good indication for higher activity of the prepared compounds than the standard antibiotic drug. Also, the antioxidant activity of the newly prepared ligand and its complexes has been investigated via 2,2‐diphenyl‐1‐picrylhydrazyle (DPPH) free radical scavenging assay. The findings show that Schiff base complexes exhibit good antioxidant activity. Finally, theoretical density functional theory using density functional theory/B3LYP method and molecular docking studies with two receptors of 3T88 and 3Q8U are calculated for the investigated compounds.

and glass fiber. This novel composite can be used in car bodies and in the aviation industry. Flat laminated specimens from both composites are prepared by hand layup. Tensile and impact testing are done to evaluate and compare the mechanical properties of these composites. An experiment is done to study the damage that can occur to the novel composite when drilling holes which can be used for joining composite laminates with other parts. Twelve trials were made to reduce the damage by better selection of the drilling conditions. Peel up and push out delamination factors are calculated to investigate the damage. Digital optical microscope is used to investigate the fracture surface of broken specimens and the nature of drilling damage. Comparison between novel and conventional composites shows an improvement by approximately 47% and the density of the new composite decreases by 8%. The optimum drilling cutting speed is approximately 1150 rpm which gives the least delamination factor at the front and back of specimen.
