•An LC-MS/MS method was validated to simultaneously quantify CHF6550 and its main metabolite CHF6671 in rat plasma over the range 50–50000 pg/mL.•A LC-MS/MS scientific validation was performed for ...the quantification of CHF6550 and CHF6671 in lung homogenate.•A protein precipitation was set up to extract CHF6550 and CHF6671 from plasma and lung homogenates.
A selective and sensitive liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method was developed and validated for accurate determination of CHF6550 and its main metabolite in rat plasma and lung homogenate samples. All biological samples were prepared by simple protein precipitation method using deuterated internal standards. The analytes were separated on a HSS T3 analytical column with 3.2 min run time at flow rate of 0.5 mL/min. The detection was performed on a triple-quadrupole tandem mass spectrometer equipped with positive-ion electrospray ionization by selected-reaction monitoring of the transitions at m/z 735.3 → 98.0 for CHF6550 and m/z 638.3 → 319.2 and 638.3 → 376.2 for CHF6671. The calibration curves for plasma samples were linear between 50 and 50000 pg/mL for both analytes. The calibration curves for lung homogenate samples were linear within 0.1–100 ng/mL for CHF6550 and 0.3–300 ng/mL for CHF6671. The method was successfully applied to a 4-week toxicity study.

We investigate the behavior of both pure spin and spin-polarized currents measured with four-probe non-local and two probe local configurations up to room temperature and under an external gate ...voltage in a lateral graphene transistor, produced using a standard large-scale microfabrication process. The high spin diffusion length of pristine graphene in the channel, measured both directly and by the Hanle effect, and the tuning of the relationship between the electrode resistance areas present in the device architecture allowed us to observe local tunnel magnetoresistance at room temperature, a new finding for this type of device. The results also indicate that while pure spin currents are less sensitive to temperature variations, spin-polarized current switching by an external voltage is more efficient, due to a combination of the Rashba effect and a change in carrier mobility by a Fermi level shift.
Spin transport is characterized in a lateral graphene transistor. Spin polarized electronic current is much more sensitive to scattering from defects than pure spin current. Here, the defects are controlled by external voltage and temperature variations.
BACKGROUND: The study aim was to assess the time elapsed between onset of symptoms and diagnosis of endometriosis, and to identify the factors associated with diagnostic delay in a group of Brazilian ...women. METHODS: In this retrospective cohort study, 200 women with surgically confirmed endometriosis were interviewed at an endometriosis outpatient clinic. RESULTS: The median (interquartile range) time elapsed from onset of symptoms until diagnosis of endometriosis was 7.0 (range 3.5–12.1) years. The younger the women at onset of symptoms, the longer the period for diagnosis to be made: the median delay was 12.1 (range 8.0–17.2) years in women aged ≤19 years, and 3.3 (range 2.0–5.5) years in women aged ≥30 years. The median time period between onset of symptoms and diagnosis was 4.0 (2.0–6.0) years for women whose main complaint was infertility, but 7.4 (3.6–13.0) years for those with pelvic pain. CONCLUSIONS: The delay in diagnosis of endometriosis was considered to be long, and especially so for young women with pelvic pain. More information relating to endometriosis should be offered to general physicians and gynaecologists in order to reduce the time taken to diagnose this condition.
Single-step Coulomb excitation of 46,48,49,50Ti is presented. A complete set of E2 matrix elements for the quintuplet of states in 49Ti, centred on the 2+ core excitation, was measured for the first ...time. A total of nine E2 matrix elements are reported, four of which were previously unknown. 2249Ti27 shows a 20% quenching in electric quadrupole transition strength as compared to its semi-magic 2250Ti28 neighbour. This 20% quenching, while empirically unprecedented, can be explained with a remarkably simple two-state mixing model, which is also consistent with other ground-state properties such as the magnetic dipole moment and electric quadrupole moment. A connection to nucleon transfer data and the quenching of single-particle strength is also demonstrated. The simplicity of the 49Ti-50Ti pair (i.e., approximate single-j0f7/2 valence space and isolation of yrast states from non-yrast states) provides a unique opportunity to disentangle otherwise competing effects in the ground-state properties of atomic nuclei, the emergence of collectivity, and the role of proton-neutron interactions.

Abstract
Pinning at local defects is a significant road block for the successful implementation of technological paradigms which rely on the dynamic properties of non-trivial magnetic textures. Here, ...a comprehensive study of the influence of local pinning sites for non-homogeneous magnetic layers integrated as the free layer of a magnetic tunnel junction is presented, both experimentally and with corresponding micromagnetic simulations. The pinning sites are found to be extremely detrimental to the frequency controllability of the devices, a key requirement for their use as synapses in a frequency multiplexed artificial neural networks. In addition to describing the impact of the local pinning sites in the more conventional NiFe, a vortex-based magnetic tunnel junction with an amorphous free layer is presented which shows significantly improved frequency selectivity, marking a clear direction for the design of future low power devices.
This work aimed to develop a universal parameterized language for programming numerically controlled machines. For proposed language interpretation and compilation, a computational application called ...parameterized programming module (PPM) was developed, based on Pascal programming fundamentals and incremented with the G-code. The proposed parameterized language has a different structure from those provided by the command manufacturers, constituting a complementary tool for parameterization in numerical programming. In order to validate the proposed system, angular, transversal, and longitudinal turning thinning operation through single and multiple cycles were programmed, which proved the algorithm’s operability. Additionally, the performed test results show that the developed algorithm proved to be reliable in the numerical code interworking and compilation.

Three-dimensional self-gravitating systems do not evolve to thermodynamic equilibrium but become trapped in nonequilibrium quasistationary states. In this Letter, we present a theory which allows us ...to a priori predict the particle distribution in a final quasistationary state to which a self-gravitating system will evolve from an initial condition which is isotropic in particle velocities and satisfies a virial constraint 2K=-U, where K is the total kinetic energy, and U is the potential energy of the system.

•Nanocrystalline zinc blende and wurtzite ZnS phases produced by mechanical alloying.•Sulfur and/or zinc vacancies in the ZnS as-milled.•Magnetic and semiconductor behavior for the as-milled ...ZnS-10h.•Irreversible demagnetization and Curie temperature above room temperature.•Structural stability after annealing and aged of the ZnS-10h sample.
Nanocrystalline zinc blende and wurtzite ZnS phases with sulfur and/or zinc vacancies were obtained from a mechanically alloyed Zn50S50 powder mixture. Structural, thermal, magnetic, optical and photoacoustic studies were carried out using X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, vibrating sample magnetometer, UV–Vis absorption, photoluminescence and photoacoustic spectroscopy techniques. The cubic zinc blende (ZnSZB) and hexagonal wurtzite (ZnSWZ) phases were nucleated in 3h of milling and remained until 10h when the milling process was stopped. The coexistence of these two phases was confirmed by high resolution transmission electron microscopy. X-ray diffraction measurements attested the structural stability of the sample milled for 10h and aged for eighteen months and of the sample milled 10h and annealed at 300°C and 600°C. Differential scanning calorimetry measurements showed the unreacted sulfur in molecular form (rings and/or chains). Magnetic behavior was observed for as-milled sample and Curie temperature was estimated at 430°C. Moreover, an irreversible behavior of magnetic properties was observed and correlated with changes on the structural vacancies densities. The UV–Vis absorption spectra and McLean analysis showed an optical band gap around 3.4eV and 3.9 for ZnSZB and ZnSWZ phases, respectively. The sample milled for 10h showed low blue photoemission intensity centered at 470nm and thermal diffusivity around 0.02cm2/s.

BACKGROUND Women with endometriosis may have higher rates of autoimmune disorders, including hypothyroidism. The objective of this study was to compare the prevalence of thyroid dysfunction and ...autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD) between women with endometriosis and a control group. METHODS This was a cross-sectional study carried out in 148 women with surgically confirmed endometriosis and 158 controls. The mean age of the study group was 34.6 (7.1 SD) years (range 21–42) and 32.1 (7.7 SD) years (range 18–44) for controls. Serum levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone, free thyroxine and the anti-thyroperoxidase and anti-thyroglobulin antibodies were evaluated. RESULTS Thyroid disorders were identified in 20.9% of the endometriosis group and 26.5% of the control group (P = 0.25). The overall frequency of thyroid dysfunction was 12.2% and 10.8% for the endometriosis and control groups, and the frequency of positive thyroid antibodies, 14.9% and 22.2%, respectively (P = 0.20). Endometriosis stage and infertility history were not associated with thyroid dysfunction and AITD in the study group. CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of thyroid dysfunction and AITD was similar in the two study groups. Screening for thyroid disturbances in women with endometriosis is not indicated
