Visible light communication (VLC) can provide high-speed data transmission that could alleviate the pressure on the conventional radio frequency spectrum with the looming capacity crunch for digital ...communication systems. In this paper, we present experimental results of a VLC system with a data rate of 15.73 Gb/s after applying forward error correction coding over a 1.6 m link. Wavelength division multiplexing is utilized to efficiently modulate four wavelengths in the visible light spectrum. Four single color low-cost commercially available light emitting diodes (LEDs) are chosen as light sources. This confirms the feasibility and readiness of VLC for high-data rate communication. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) with adaptive bit loading is used. The system with the available components is characterized and its parameters, such as LED driving points and OFDM signal peak-to-peak scaling factor, are optimized. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest data rate ever reported for LED-based VLC systems.
The study aimed to assess the impact of an American ginseng nutritional product on relieving muscle fatigue post-Wushu Sanda exercise. Twenty Sanda athletes were randomly assigned to groups A and B ...for a 30-day Wushu Sanda training. Each participant was administered three capsules twice daily, either American ginseng and Acanthopanax senticosus or a placebo. Body composition, ratings of perceived exertion, and blood biochemical values were compared. No significant disparities in body composition and ratings of perceived exertion were observed between group A and group B before or after the experiment. However, the increase in ratings of perceived exertion for group A was slightly less pronounced compared to that of group B. On the first day of the experiment, no significant differences were observed in glucose, blood lactic acid, blood urea nitrogen, and creatine kinase between the two groups (P > 0.05). On the 15th and 30th days of the experiment, blood glucose levels were significantly higher in group A, while levels of creatine kinase, blood lactic acid, and blood urea nitrogen were lower, with statistically significant variances observed (P < 0.05). The American ginseng nutritional product can effectively alleviate muscle fatigue post-Wushu Sanda exercise and can be considered a nutritional supplement in sports training.

Organic optoelectronic devices combine high-performance, simple fabrication and distinctive form factors. They are widely integrated in smart devices and wearables as flexible, high pixel density ...organic light emitting diode (OLED) displays, and may be scaled to large area by roll-to-roll printing for lightweight solar power systems. Exceptionally thin and flexible organic devices may enable future integrated bioelectronics and security features. However, as a result of their low charge mobility, these are generally thought to be slow devices with microsecond response times, thereby limiting their full scope of potential applications. By investigating the factors limiting their bandwidth and overcoming them, we demonstrate here exceptionally fast OLEDs with bandwidths in the hundreds of MHz range. This opens up a wide range of potential applications in spectroscopy, communications, sensing and optical ranging. As an illustration of this, we have demonstrated visible light communication using OLEDs with data rates exceeding 1 gigabit per second.
Steady-state visual evoked potential (SSVEP) is one of the most popular brain-computer interface (BCI) paradigms, with high information transmission rate and signal-to-noise ratio. Many ...calibration-free and calibration-based approaches have been proposed to improve the performance of SSVEP-based BCIs. This paper considers a quick calibration scenario, where there are plenty of data from multiple source subjects, but only a small number of calibration trials from a subset of stimulus frequencies for the new subject. We propose small data least-squares transformation (sd-LST) to solve this problem. Experiments on three publicly available SSVEP datasets demonstrated that sd-LST outperformed several classical or state-of-the-art approaches, with only about 10 calibration trials for 40-target SSVEP-based BCI spellers.
Proliferation is one of the significant hallmarks of gallbladder cancer, which is a relatively rare but fatal malignance. Aim of this study was to examine the biological impact and molecular ...mechanism of the candidate hub-gene on the proliferation and tumorigenesis of gallbladder cancer. We analyzed the differentially expressed genes and the correlation between these genes with MKI67, and showed that KIF11 is one of the major upregulated regulators of proliferation in gallbladder cancer (GBC). The Gene Ontology, Gene Sets Enrichment Analysis and KEGG Pathway analysis indicated that KIF11 may promote GBC cell proliferation through the ERBB2/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. Gain-of-function and loss-of-function assay demonstrated that KIF11 regulated GBC cell cycle and cancer cell proliferation in vitro. GBC cells exhibited G2M phase cell cycle arrest, cell proliferation and clone formation ability reduction after treatment with Monastrol, a specific inhibitor of KIF11. Xenograft model showed that KIF11 promotes GBC growth in vivo. Rescue experiments showed that KIF11-induced GBC cell proliferation dependented on ERBB2/PI3K/AKT pathway. Moreover, we found that H3K27ac signals are enriched among the promoter region of KIF11 in the UCSC Genome Browser Database. Differentially expressed analysis showed that EP300, a major histone acetyltransferase modifying H3K27ac signal, is highly expressed in gallbladder cancer and correlation analysis illustrated that EP300 is positively related with KIF11 in almost all the cancer types. We further found that KIF11 was significantly downregulated in a dose-dependent and time-dependent manner after histone acetylation inhibitor treatment. The present results highlight that high KIF11 expression promotes GBC cell proliferation through the ERBB2/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. The findings may help deepen our understanding of mechanism underlying GBC cancer development and development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic target.
We show that organic photovoltaics (OPVs) are suitable for high-speed optical wireless data receivers that can also harvest power. In addition, these OPVs are of particular interest for indoor ...applications, as their bandgap is larger than that of silicon, leading to better matching to the spectrum of artificial light. By selecting a suitable combination of a narrow bandgap donor polymer and a nonfullerene acceptor, stable OPVs are fabricated with a power conversion efficiency of 8.8% under 1 Sun and 14% under indoor lighting conditions. In an optical wireless communication experiment, a data rate of 363 Mb/s and a simultaneous harvested power of 10.9 mW are achieved in a 4-by-4 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) setup that consists of four laser diodes, each transmitting 56 mW optical power and four OPV cells on a single panel as receivers at a distance of 40 cm. This result is the highest reported data rate using OPVs as data receivers and energy harvesters. This finding may be relevant to future mobile communication applications because it enables enhanced wireless data communication performance while prolonging the battery life in a mobile device.
Hyporheic groundwater geochemistry evolution depends on the interactions of surface water and groundwater (SW–GW). Hydrodynamic variations driven by the long-term managed aquifer recharge (MAR) ...practice could change hyporheic geochemical processes, which requires a better understanding for groundwater management. In this work, a geochemical survey was conducted in a multi-aquifer MAR system. The results showed great impact of the MAR practice on the hydrodynamics and major ion chemistry of groundwater in the hyporheic zone compared to natural recharge. Besides, related geochemical processes including rock weathering and ion exchange showed increased effect on hyporheic hydrochemistry with aquifer depth, depending on hydrogeological conditions in addition to river water infiltration. Combined with hydrochemical indicators and the end-member mixing model, the relative contribution of precipitation to groundwater was estimated to be 5% for the 30-m aquifer, 16% for the 50-m aquifer, and 64% for the 80-m aquifer. However, precipitation made small contributions (<5%) to the major ions of groundwater regardless of depth. Conversely, the relative contributions of river water infiltration decreased with aquifer depth (95%→84%→36%), and its proportional contributions to major ions showed a similar trend (90%→84%→39%), which suggests reduced SW–GW interaction intensity with depth in the hyporheic zone. The major ion compositions of hyporheic groundwater tend towards river water after the long-term MAR practice, reflecting comprehensive effect of mixing and related geochemical processes. This study demonstrates the relevance of detailed studies at regional scale to understand anthropogenic effects from projects such as MAR on groundwater geochemistry especially in multi-aquifer systems.

The progress in information technology makes social networks much more compact between people from all over the world. In the age of Internet, many new social interaction ways become more and more ...prevalent such as instant messaging, Web conference. These tools help people share their ideas and cooperate. However, in the meantime, there exist some risks because the person you are chatting with may just be a fake one. In this situation, the face recognition techniques could help identify the truth and make the social networks safe. In this paper, research is conducted on application of face recognition techniques into daily social networks. By combining robust face recognition techniques into our social networks, we can better discriminate risks on the Internet and make full use of social networks on academics, business or other issues. At first, the basic concept of social networks is introduced. Afterwards, the state of the art in the field of face recognition is described. Finally, some suggested ways are given on how to apply face recognition techniques into our social networks.
