Potent MHC class II antigenic peptide vaccines are created by covalently linking the N-terminus of a MHC class II epitope through a polymethylene bridge to the C-terminus of the Ii-Key segment of the ...Ii protein. Such hybrids enhance potency of presentation in vitro of the MHC class II epitope about 200 times relative to the epitope-only peptide. In vivo, as measured by IFN-gamma ELISPOT assays, the helper T cell response to vaccination is enhanced up to 8 times. The design of such hybrid vaccine peptides comes from insight into the mechanism of action of the Ii-Key motif within the Ii protein, in regulating antigenic peptide binding into the antigenic peptide binding groove of MHC class II molecules. Here we present the logic and experimental history of the development of these vaccine peptides, with particular attention to the hypothesized mechanism of action. Methods for the design and testing of these peptides are presented. Experience in developing peptide vaccines for immunotherapy of cancer is reviewed, focusing on the clinical potential of Ii-Key/MHC class II epitope hybrids.

The beetle Tenebrio molitor (often referred to as mealworm) is a relatively easy-to-manage insect that possesses a range of features that suggest it may be suitable for practical classes In schools. ...It is relatively inexpensive in the larval form, it is available from virtually all pet shops and it can be purchased both live and in a freeze-dried form, facilitating some biochemical experiments. The larvae are relatively large (between 1-5cm), the beetles are flightless, but easily visualized for anatomical studies, and they are harmless. In fact the mealworm is recommended by the WHO as a dietary supplement owing to its high protein levels per gram dry weight. In short, it is inexpensive, easy to handle, widely available - and nutritious! "-omics" informally refers to a field of study in biology ending in -omics, such as genomics or proteomics, the study of the genome and proteome respectively.

End users create software whenever they write, for instance, educational simulations, spreadsheets, or dynamic e-business web applications. Researchers are working to bring the benefits of rigorous ...software engineering methodologies to these end users to try to make their software more reliable. Unfortunately, errors are pervasive in end-user software, and the resulting impact is sometimes enormous. This special interest group meeting has two purposes: to incorporate attendees' and feedback into an emerging survey of the state of this interesting new sub-area, and generally to bring together the community of researchers who are addressing this topic, with the companies that are creating end-user programming tools.

The two were paired in 2020 by a program called Empowerment Avenue (EA), which supports incarcerated artists and writers. Since their pairing, which was EAs pilot match, Chris has placed more than ...fifty pieces of writing, ranging from extensively reported articles to intensely personal essays, in large and small outlets including The New York Times, The Washington Post, HuffPost, The Boston Globe, Vie Progressive, and others. ...it's about reporting the truth, making sure that all who experience abuse are supported, and that those who cause harm are held accountable. If not, the cycle will continue. Because that is what journalism is about-investigating and reporting the truth to better educate society about the dysfunctional systems that operate in the shadows.

The concept of witchcraft has gained popularity within the feminist movement in recent years. Witches stand alongside ancient mother goddesses as links between the historic past & the empirical ...present of women. The witch image contains elements both of the past & myth, & of real & present dilemmas. Only the demythification of these images within the militant feminist movement allows witchcraft to become relevant to the future. Witchcraft originates in fear of the sensuality of women; this fear, as embodied originally in the witch hunts, represents a transformation of the human relationship to nature which ended in the subordination of work to capital. Women had been taken as tied to the powers of nature throughout the history of agrarian societies, & the old goddesses who symbolized this survived beneath a surface of Christianity through the Middle Ages. Mariolatry represented opposition to the equal status of women, & coincided with a reduction in women's power. The witch myth survived through the growth of capitalist production. The rediscovery of women's active role gives this fantasy a new relevance for women seeking behavior possibilities outside the limits of instrumental rationality, even though simple recapitulation of the myth cannot be sufficient for women who now have gained access to the technological capacities of modern society.
