To address the decline in biodiversity, international cooperation in monitoring of threatened species is needed. Citizen science can play a crucial role in achieving this challenging goal, but most ...citizen science projects have been established at national or regional scales. Here we report on the establishment and initial findings of the European Stag Beetle Monitoring Network (ESBMN), an international network of stag beetle (Lucanus cervus) monitoring schemes using the same protocol. The network, started in 2016, currently includes 14 countries (see results) but with a strong variation in output regarding the number of transects (148 successful transects in total) and transect walks (1735). We found differences across European regions in the number of stag beetles recorded, related to phenology and temperature, but not for time of transect start. Furthermore, the initial experiences of the ESBMN regarding international cooperation, citizen science approach, and drop-out of volunteers is discussed. An international standardised protocol that allows some local variation is essential for international collaboration and data management, and analysis is best performed at the international level, whereas recruiting, training, and maintaining volunteers is best organised locally. In conclusion, we appeal for more joint international citizen science-based monitoring initiatives assisting international red-listing and conservation actions.

Delaware law has been unsettled for the last two decades as to what level of scrutiny to apply when a stockholder challenges a transaction in which an acquirer purchases the target's stock for a mix ...of cash and stock. When stockholders are paid for their stock with shares in a diversely held and uncontrolled entity, Delaware law treats the transaction as a strategic combination and affords the directors business judgment deference. When stockholders receive cash, Delaware courts scrutinize the transaction more closely under Revlon as an end-stage transaction. The uncertainty in the law stems from the inherent difficulty in determining whether a mixed cash-stock transaction more closely resembles a strategic combination or a cash-out merger. Delaware courts have used a ratio in which the per-share merger consideration is the denominator and the market value of the acquirer's stock is the numerator. When this ratio is about half or less, Delaware courts have applied heightened scrutiny to the transaction as though it is an endstage transaction. This Article illustrates that this test over-values the investment being surrendered by including the premium paid by the acquirer, and creates adverse incentives for directors in negotiations. Instead, the question of whether there is a long-run for stockholders is better answered using a ratio of the market value of the amount of stock in the combined entity to be received over the pre-announcement market value of the stock to be surrendered.
Heteronormativity, the “privileging of heterosexuality through its normalization” (Jackson, 2006, p. 109), causes confusion and anxiety for many lesbian, gay, bisexual, and asexual preservice ...teachers as they consider how they will talk about their lives with students. This article explores how preservice teachers have experienced the normalization of heterosexuality and the ways in which these experiences will shape their professional practices. Focus group and follow up interviews with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and asexual preservice teachers were analyzed using a constant comparison method. Findings suggest that participants’ professional vision was largely a response to heteronormativity. They wanted to be out, be role models, and create safe spaces; yet they felt unable to achieve this vision in what they perceived as heteronormative school climates. Implications for teacher preparation programs and policies include the importance of equipping all preservice teachers to identify and disrupt heteronormativity in schools.

The People's Trust for Endangered Species (PTES) owns a private woodland on the Isle of Wight (IoW) that is managed predominantly for woodland bats, Red Squirrels and Hazel Dormice. Dormice are ...considered to be widespread across the island in suitable habitat. The IoW is different from the mainland as it has no wild deer species. PTES has been monitoring dormice in its woodland since 1992, when nest boxes were first put up by Paul Bright. However, in spite of appropriate woodland management for dormice at the reserve, dormouse numbers there appear to be declining. This raised the question: “Is the apparent decline in dormice recorded in nest boxes, real or perceived?” If the decline was real, it may be necessary to reconsider management advice that we give for dormice. If the decline was perceived, then it may be necessary to reconsider advice that we give for monitoring dormice. The first challenge was to identify what the woodland may have looked like 30 years ago and identify why high numbers of dormice were recorded. We could then apply the known woodland management that was done in the intervening years, to determine why dormouse nest box occupancy changed by varying amounts in different parts of the wood. We were able to check some of our ideas using data from footprint tunnels and this work is ongoing in 2022. This talk will discuss woodland state, woodland management and dormouse next box occupancy in a dormouse hotspot in southern England.
Background: Radicava
®
(edaravone), approved for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 2017, may be administered intravenously at clinic sites, infusion centers or at home.
...Objective: To gain insights into the utilization of Radicava
®
at 1 year post-launch.
Methods: Radicava
®
usage data were collected, and a survey was conducted among 75 physicians. Adverse events (AEs) were identified from a post-marketing safety database from 8 August 2017 through 3 August 2018 (cutoff date).
Results: As of 6 August 2018, 3007 ALS patients were treated with Radicava
®
. Survey results indicated that 43% of patients received infusions at home, 32% in a clinician's office, and 26% at a referred site. Infusions were administered mainly via implanted port. The most commonly reported AEs were drug ineffective, death (not specified), therapeutic response unexpected, asthenia, fatigue, gait disturbance, disease progression, muscular weakness, fall, and dyspnea.
Conclusions: The first year of Radicava
®
availability to ALS patients in the US provided many key learnings that will help shape strategies for improved patient care.

Increased diversity within student populations has led to concerns for meeting the needs of all learners. Traditionally, education has defined diversity in terms of students' ethnicity, language, and ...academic abilities. In today's environment, however, multicultural efforts fall short if they do not also include sexual orientation and family structure within notions of diversity. In this article, the author describes a study which she conducted to learn more about the nature of interactions between lesbian mothers and their children's schools and teachers. Participants consisted of 12 mothers whose children ranged in age from 10 months to 21 years. Interviews centered on mothers' best and worst experiences with their children's schools. Participants' interactions with teachers varied from noticeably hostile to overwhelmingly accepting. They identified desired and negative qualities within teachers and offered suggestions.
Albeit growing in number, lesbian mothers and their children remain a statistical minority in schools. Lesbian mothers in this study described their families as "normal" or "just like any other ...family." From the perspective of queer theory, normal is a socially constructed and insidious concept. This study analyzes both the strategies participants used to be recognized as normal in their children's schools and the reasons such recognition was perceived to be important by participants.
