Risk is inherent in almost every activity of supply chain management. With the ever-increasing push for efficiency, supply chains today are getting more and more risky. Adding to the difficulty of ...dealing with these risks is the amount of subjectivity and uncertainty involved. This makes analytical examination of the situation very difficult, especially as the amount of information available at a particular time is not sufficient for such an analysis. Thus a supply chain risk index, which captures the level of risk faced by a supply chain in a given situation, is the need of the hour. This study is an effort towards quantifying the risks in a supply chain and then consolidating the values into a comprehensive risk index. An integrated approach, with a fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and a fuzzy technique for order preference by similarity to the ideal solution (TOPSIS) as its important elements, has been used for this purpose. Fuzzy values in this study help in capturing the subjectivity of the situation with a final conversion to a crisp value which is much more comprehensible. A case study is used to illustrate the proposed methodology.

We propose an efficient bio-inspired algorithm for design of optimal supply chain networks in a competitive oligopoly markets. The firms compete in manufacture, storage and distribution of a product ...to several markets. Each firm aims at maximisation of its own profit by optimising the design capacity and product flow in the supply chain. We model the supply chain network as a multi-layer graph of manufacturing nodes, distribution nodes and storage centres. To optimise the network, we adopt the mechanisms of a foraging behaviour of slime mould Physarum polycephalym. First, we extend the original Physarum model to deal with networks with multiple sources and sinks. Second, we develop a novel method to solve the user equilibrium (UE) problem by exploiting the adaptivity of the Physarum model: we update the link costs according to the product flow. Third, we refer to an equivalent transformation between system optimum problem and UE problem to determine the optimal product flows and design capacities of a supply chain. At last, we present an approach to update the amount of product supplied by each firm. By comparing our solutions with that in Nagurney (2010b) on several numerical examples, we demonstrate the efficiency and practicality of the proposed method.

This article aims to develop a novel hybrid multi‐attribute group decision‐making approach under interval‐valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IVIFS) by integrating variable weight, correlation ...coefficient, and technique for order performance by similarity to an ideal solution (TOPSIS). First, experts give their evaluation in IVIFS, and then the weighting evaluation matrix is computed based on interval‐valued intuitionistic fuzzy weighted averaging operator with the subjective attribute weights given in advance. Second, a simple and useful weighting approach on the basis of correlation coefficient is put forward to obtain the experts weights. Third, we treat the attribute weights as a varying vector, and then propose a variable weighting approach for its acquisition. Fourth, an individual decision can be converted to an alternative decision by considering the experts and attributes weights together. At last, the integrated assessment value of each alternative is computed by TOPSIS, and then the most appropriate alternative is chosen. Two illustrative examples dealt with the problem by the method presented in this article demonstrate the usefulness of this approach, compared with those by the other methods.

In recent years, Industry 4.0 has emerged as one of the most discussed concepts and has gained significant popularity in both academia and the industrial sector. Both Industry 4.0 and lean ...manufacturing utilise decentralised control and aim to increase productivity and flexibility. However, there have been few studies investigating the link between these two domains. This article explores this novel area and maps the current literature. This is achieved through a systematic literature review methodology, investigating literature published up to and including August 2017. This article identifies four main research streams concerning the link between Industry 4.0 and lean manufacturing, and a research agenda for future studies is proposed.

Global supplier development is a multi-criterion decision problem which includes both qualitative and quantitative factors. The global supplier selection problem is more complex than domestic one and ...it needs more critical analysis. The aim of this paper is to identify and discuss some of the important and critical decision criteria including risk factors for the development of an efficient system for global supplier selection. Fuzzy extended analytic hierarchy process (FEAHP) based methodology will be discussed to tackle the different decision criteria like cost, quality, service performance and supplier's profile including the risk factors involved in the selection of global supplier in the current business scenario. FEAHP is an efficient tool to handle the fuzziness of the data involved in deciding the preferences of different decision variables. The linguistic level of comparisons produced by the customers and experts for each comparison are tapped in the form triangular fuzzy numbers to construct fuzzy pair-wise comparison matrices. The implementation of the system is demonstrated by a problem having four stages of hierarchy which contains different criteria and attributes at wider perspective. The proposed model can provide not only a framework for the organization to select the global supplier but also has the capability to deploy the organization's strategy to its supplier.

The COVID-19 pandemic outbreak spread rapidly worldwide, posing a severe threat to human life. Due to its unpredictability and destructiveness, the emergency has aroused great common in society. At the same time, the selection of emergency medical supplier is one of the critical links in emergency decision-making, so undertaking appropriate decision-making using scientific tools becomes the primary challenge when an emergency outbreak occurs. The multi criteria group decision-making (MCGDM) method is an applicable and common method for choosing supplier. Nevertheless, because emergency medical supplier selection should consider regarding many aspects, it is difficult for decision makers (DMs) to develop a comprehensive assessment method for emergency medical supplier. Therefore, few academics have focused on emergency situation research by the MCGDM method, and the existing MCGDM method has some areas for improvement. In view of this situation, in this study, we propose a new MCGDM method, which considers the bidirectional influence relation of the criteria, consensus and the psychological factors of DMs. It providers a good aid in emergency decision-making and it could apply to other types of MCGDM research. Firstly, DMs give their assessment in interval type-2 fuzzy sets (IT2FSs). Secondly, an extended IT2FSs assessment method and a novel ISM-BWM-Cosine Similarity-Max Deviation Method (IBCSMDM) are used for weighing all alternatives. The TODIM (an acronym for interactive and multi-criteria decision-making in Portuguese) can obtain the ranking results under different risk attenuation factors. Eventually, this extended IT2FSs-IBCSMDM-TODIM method is applied in a real case in Wuhan in the context of COVID-19 to illustrate the practicability and usefulness.

Smart manufacturing is the core idea of the fourth industrial evolution. For a smart manufacturing shop floor, real-time monitoring, simulation and prediction of manufacturing operations are vital to ...improve the production efficiency and flexibility. In this paper, the Cyber-Physical System (CPS) and Digital Twin technologies are introduced to build the interconnection and interoperability of a physical shop floor and corresponding cybershop floor. A Digital Twin-based Cyber-Physical Production System (DT-CPPS) is further established, and the configuring mechanism, operating mechanism and real-time data-driven operations control of DT-CPPS are discussed in detail. It is expected that DT-CPPS will provide the basis for shop floors to march towards smart manufacturing.

Pairwise comparison matrix (PCM) as a crucial component of Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) presents the preference relations among alternatives. However, in many cases, the PCM is difficult to be ...completed, which obstructs the subsequent operations of the classical AHP. In this paper, based on decision-making and trial evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method which has ability to derive the total relation matrix from direct relation matrix, a new completion method for incomplete pairwise comparison matrix (iPCM) is proposed. The proposed method provides a new perspective to estimate the missing values in iPCMs with explicit physical meaning, which is straightforward and flexible. Several experiments are implemented as well to present the completion ability of the proposed method and some insights into the proposed method and matrix consistency.
Advancements in wireless communications have increased the number of people using mobile devices, and have accelerated the growth of mobile commerce (m-commerce). This study aims to investigate the ...factors that predict consumer intention to adopt m-commerce in Malaysia and China. The work extends the traditional technology acceptance model (TAM) and diffusion of innovation (DOI) model, and includes additional variables such as trust, cost, social influence, variety of services, and control variables such as age, educational level, and gender of consumers. By comparing consumers from both Malaysia and China, this research is able to form a prediction model based on two different cultural settings. Data was collected from 172 Malaysian consumers and 222 Chinese consumers, and hierarchical regression analysis was employed to test the research model. The results showed that age, trust, cost, social influence, and variety of services are able to predict Malaysian consumer decisions to adopt m-commerce. Trust, cost, and social influence can be used to predict Chinese consumer decisions to adopt m-commerce. This research confirms the need to extend the traditional TAM and DOI models when studying technology such as m-commerce. The results from this study will be useful for telecommunication and m-commerce companies in formulating marketing strategies.

Cloud computing technology has become increasingly popular and can deliver a host of benefits. However, there are various kinds of cloud providers in the market and firms need scientific decision tools to judge which cloud computing vendor should be chosen. Studies in how a firm should select an appropriate cloud vendor have just started. However, existing studies are mainly from the technology and cost perspective, and neglect other influence factors, such as competitive pressure and managerial skills, etc. Hence, this paper proposes a multi-attribute group decision-making (MAGDM) based scientific decision tool to help firms to judge which cloud computing vendor is more suitable for their need by considering more comprehensive influencefactors. It is argued that objective attributes, i.e., cost, as well as subjective attributes, such as TOE factors (Technology, Organization, and Environment) should be considered for the decision making in cloud computing services, and presents a new subjective/objective integrated MAGDM approach for solving decision problems. The proposed approach integrates statistical variance (SV), improved techniques for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution (TOPSIS), simple additive weighting (SAW), and Delphi–AHP to determine the integrated weights of the attributes and decision-makers (DMs). The method considers both the objective weights of the attributes and DMs, as well as the subjective preferences of the DMs and their identity differences, thereby making the decision results more accurate and theoretically reasonable. A numerical example is given to illustrate the practicability and usefulness of the approach and its suitability as a decision-making tool for a firm using of cloud computing services. This paper enriches the theory and methodology of the selection problem of cloud computing vendoring and MAGDM analysis.
