Electronic nose, electronic tongue and computer vision systems, designed to artificially perceive flavour and appearance, have been increasingly used in the food industry as rapid and reliable tools ...for quality assessment. The use of multivariate analysis methods, together with electronic senses, has shown to be very powerful; however, due to the high complexity of food, the employment of just single sensor data is often insufficient. In recent years, much research has been performed to develop several data fusion strategies, combining the outputs of multiple instrumental sources, for improving the quality assessment and authentication of food. The aim of this work is to review the recent achievements in the field of artificial sensors’ application, in the evaluation of animal source food products.
•Electronic nose, electronic tongue and computer vision systems technologies are reviewed.•Last five year relevant contributions in animal source food authentication and assessment are considered.•Most used multivariate statistical analysis and pattern recognition techniques are briefly reviewed.•Multiple and complementary sensor data fusion strategies and its application have been reviewed.

A 4-independent wheel driving (4-IWD) electric vehicle has distinctive advantages with both enhanced dynamic and energy efficiency performances since this configuration provides more flexibilities ...from both the design and control aspects. However, it is difficult to achieve the optimal performances of a 4-IWD electric vehicle with conventional design and control approaches. This paper is dedicated to investigating the vehicular optimal design and control approaches, with a 4-IWD electric race car aiming at minimizing the lap time on a given circuit as a case study. A 14-DOF vehicle model that can fully evaluate the influences of the unsprung mass is developed based on Lagrangian dynamics. The 14-DOF vehicle model implemented with the reprogrammed Magic Formula tire model and a time-efficient suspension model supports metric operations and parallel computing, which can dramatically improve the computational efficiency. The optimal design and control problems with design parameters of the motor, transmission, mass center, anti-roll bar and the suspension of the race car are successively formulated. The formulated problems are subsequently solved by directly transcribing the original problems into large-scale nonlinear optimization problems based on trapezoidal approach. The influences of the mounting positions of the propulsion system, the mass and inertia of the unsprung masses, the anti-roll bars, and suspensions on the lap time are analyzed and compared quantitatively for the first time. Some interesting findings that are different from the `already known facts' are presented.
When it comes to harvesting operations, precision agriculture needs to consider both combine harvester technology and the precise execution of the process to eliminate harvest losses and minimize ...out-of-work time. This work aims to propose a complete control framework defined by a two-layer-based algorithm and a simulation environment suitable for quantitative harvest loss, time, and consumption analyses. In detail, the path-planning layer shows suitable harvesting techniques considering field boundaries and irregularities, while the path-tracking layer presents a vision-guided Stanley Lateral Controller. In order to validate the developed control framework, challenging driving scenarios were created using IPG-CarMaker software to emulate wheat harvesting operations. Results showed the effectiveness of the designed controller to follow the reference trajectory under regular field conditions with zero harvest waste and minimum out-of-work time. Whereas, in presence of harsh road irregularities, the reference trajectory should be re-planned by either selecting an alternative harvesting method or overlapping the harvester header by some distance to avoid missing crops. Quantitative and qualitative comparisons between the two harvesting techniques as well as a relationship between the level of irregularities and the required overlap will be presented. Eventually, a Driver-in-the-loop (DIL) framework is proposed as a methodology to compare human and autonomous driving.

Hybrid energy storage systems (HESS) that combine lithium-ion batteries and supercapacitors are considered as an attractive solution to overcome the drawbacks of battery-only energy storage systems, ...such as high cost, low power density, and short cycle life, which hinder the popularity of electric vehicles. A properly sized HESS and an implementable real-time power management system are of great importance to achieve satisfactory driving mileage and battery cycle life. However, dimensioning and power management problems are quite complicated and challenging in practice. To address these challenges, this article proposes a bilevel multiobjective design and control framework with the nondominated sorting genetic algorithm NSGA-II and fuzzy logic control (FLC) as key components, to obtain an optimal sized HESS and the corresponding optimal real-time power management system based on FLC simultaneously. In particular, a vectorized fuzzy inference system is devised, which allows large-scale fuzzy logic controllers to run in parallel, thereby improving optimization efficiency. Pareto optimal results of different HESSs incorporating both optimal design and control parameters are obtained efficiently thanks to the vectorization. An example solution chosen from the Pareto front shows that the proposed method can achieve a competitive number of covered laps while improving the battery cycle life significantly.
Schizotypal personality disorder is characterized by a pervasive pattern of maladaptive behavior that has been associated with the liability for schizophrenia. Little is known about effective ...psychosocial interventions. This pilot non-inferiority randomized controlled trial aimed to compare a novel form of psychotherapy tailored for this disorder and a combination of cognitive therapy and psychopharmacological treatment. The former treatment - namely, Evolutionary Systems Therapy for Schizotypy-integrated evolutionary, metacognitively oriented, and compassion focused approaches.
Thirty-three participants were assessed for eligibility, twenty-four randomized on a 1:1 ratio, nineteen included in the final analysis. The treatments lasted 6 months (24 sessions). The primary outcome was change across nine measurements in personality pathology, the secondary outcomes were remission from diagnosis and pre-post changes in general symptomatology and metacognition.
Primary outcome suggested a non-inferiority of the experimental treatment in respect to control condition. Secondary outcomes reported mixed results. There was no significant difference in terms of remission, but experimental treatment showed a larger reduction of general symptomatology (η
= 0.558) and a larger increase in metacognition (η
= 0.734).
This pilot study reported promising results about the effectiveness of the proposed novel approach. A confirmatory trial on large sample size is needed to provide evidence about relative effectiveness of the two treatment conditions.

Metacognition among those reporting psychotic symptoms is associated with a distortion in the way they understand their own and others’ mental states. Recent advances suggest that distortion in the ...form of self-criticism may activate a threat response and fuel symptom expression. At high level of self-criticism metacognition may reduce its protective role towards psychosis. Here, we explored whether the associations between impaired self-reflectivity and delusional ideation would decrease in the presence of self-criticism. A moderated regression model confirmed our hypothesis in a large sample of healthy young adults (N = 2065) even when controlled for sex, education, and family income. Our findings suggest how interventions aimed at reducing symptoms and promoting metacognition should always be interconnected with those targeting self-criticism.
