We report the first results of a light weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) search from the CDEX-10 experiment with a 10 kg germanium detector array immersed in liquid nitrogen at the China ...Jinping Underground Laboratory with a physics data size of 102.8 kg day. At an analysis threshold of 160 eVee, improved limits of 8×10^{-42} and 3×10^{-36} cm^{2} at a 90% confidence level on spin-independent and spin-dependent WIMP-nucleon cross sections, respectively, at a WIMP mass (m_{χ}) of 5 GeV/c^{2} are achieved. The lower reach of m_{χ} is extended to 2 GeV/c^{2}.

2D electrode materials are often deployed on conductive supports for electrochemistry and there is a great need to understand fundamental electrochemical processes in this electrode configuration. ...Here, an integrated experimental-theoretical approach is used to resolve the key electronic interactions in outer-sphere electron transfer (OS-ET), a cornerstone elementary electrochemical reaction, at graphene as-grown on a copper electrode. Using scanning electrochemical cell microscopy, and co-located structural microscopy, the classical hexaamineruthenium (III/II) couple shows the ET kinetics trend: monolayer > bilayer > multilayer graphene. This trend is rationalized quantitatively through the development of rate theory, using the Schmickler-Newns-Anderson model Hamiltonian for ET, with the explicit incorporation of electrostatic interactions in the double layer, and parameterized using constant potential density functional theory calculations. The ET mechanism is predominantly adiabatic; the addition of subsequent graphene layers increases the contact potential, producing an increase in the effective barrier to ET at the electrode/electrolyte interface.
We used the HARPS-North high resolution spectrograph (ℛ = 115 000) at Telescopio Nazionale Galileo (TNG) to observe one transit of the highly irradiated planet MASCARA-2b/KELT-20b. Using only one ...transit observation, we are able to clearly resolve the spectral features of the atomic sodium (Na I) doublet and the Hα line in its atmosphere, which are corroborated with the transmission calculated from their respective transmission light curves (TLC). In particular, we resolve two spectral features centered on the Na I doublet position with an averaged absorption depth of 0.17 ± 0.03% for a 0.75 Å bandwidth with line contrasts of 0.44 ± 0.11% (D2) and 0.37 ± 0.08% (D1). The Na I TLC have also been computed, showing a large Rossiter-McLaughlin (RM) effect, which has a 0.20 ± 0.05% Na I transit absorption for a 0.75 Å passband that is consistent with the absorption depth value measured from the final transmission spectrum. We observe a second feature centered on the Hα line with 0.6 ± 0.1% contrast and an absorption depth of 0.59 ± 0.08% for a 0.75 Å passband that has consistent absorptions in its TLC, which corresponds to an effective radius of Rλ/RP = 1.20 ± 0.04. While the signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) of the final transmission spectrum is not sufficient to adjust different temperature profiles to the lines, we find that higher temperatures than the equilibrium (Teq = 2260 ± 50 K) are needed to explain the lines contrast. Particularly, we find that the Na I lines core require a temperature of T = 4210 ± 180 K and that Hα requires a temperature of T = 4330 ± 520 K. MASCARA-2b, like other planets orbiting A-type stars, receives a large amount of UV energy from its host star. This energy excites the atomic hydrogen and produces Hα absorption, leading to the expansion and abrasion of the atmosphere. The study of other Balmer lines in the transmission spectrum would allow the determination of the atmospheric temperature profile and the calculation of the lifetime of the atmosphere with escape rate measurements. In the case of MASCARA-2b, residual features are observed in the Hβ and Hγ lines, but they are not statistically significant. More transit observations are needed to confirm our findings in Na I and Hα and to build up enough S/N to explore the presence of Hβ and Hγ planetary absorptions.

Subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) has been shown to be associated with microbiota. However, the association between SCH and oral microbiota has not yet been elucidated. The results of our previous ...clinical studies showed that Prevotella intermedia was abundant in the oral microbiota of SCH patients. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between SCH and oral microbiota, verify the pathogenicity of P. intermedia in SCH, and preliminarily explore the possible mechanism. The SCH mouse model with oral application of P. intermedia was established, and the variance in the mouse oral microbiota and changes in thyroid function and metabolism were detected in mice. Student’s t test and analysis of variance were used for statistical analysis. Oral application of P. intermedia changed the composition of the oral microbiota of SCH mice, which enhanced the damage to the thyroid and decreased the expression of functional genes of the thyroid. Moreover, P. intermedia decreased oxygen consumption and aggravated glucose and lipid metabolism disorders in SCH mice. Glucose tolerance and insulin tolerance decreased, and the triglyceride content of the liver and inflammatory infiltration in adipose tissue increased in SCH mice after P. intermedia stimulation. Mechanistically, P. intermedia increased the proportion of CD4+ T cells in cervical lymph nodes and thyroids in SCH mice. Th1 cells were suggested to play an important role in the pathogenesis of SCH involving P. intermedia. In conclusion, P. intermedia aggravated SCH manifestations, including thyroid dysfunction and glucose and lipid metabolism disorders, by causing immune imbalance in mice. This study sheds new light on the pathogenesis of SCH from the perspective of oral microbiota.

The gravitational-wave astronomical revolution began in 2015 with LIGO's observation of the coalescence of two stellar-mass black holes. Over the coming decades, ground-based detectors like laser ...interferometer gravitational-wave observatory (LIGO), Virgo and KAGRA will extend their reach, discovering thousands of stellar-mass binaries. In the 2030s, the space-based laser interferometer space antenna (LISA) will enable gravitational-wave observations of the massive black holes in galactic centres. Between ground-based observatories and LISA lies the unexplored dHz gravitational-wave frequency band. Here, we show the potential of a decihertz observatory (DO) which could cover this band, and complement discoveries made by other gravitational-wave observatories. The dHz range is uniquely suited to observation of intermediate-mass (∼102-104M⊙) black holes, which may form the missing link between stellar-mass and massive black holes, offering an opportunity to measure their properties. DOs will be able to detect stellar-mass binaries days to years before they merge and are observed by ground-based detectors, providing early warning of nearby binary neutron star mergers, and enabling measurements of the eccentricity of binary black holes, providing revealing insights into their formation. Observing dHz gravitational-waves also opens the possibility of testing fundamental physics in a new laboratory, permitting unique tests of general relativity (GR) and the standard model of particle physics. Overall, a DO would answer outstanding questions about how black holes form and evolve across cosmic time, open new avenues for multimessenger astronomy, and advance our understanding of gravitation, particle physics and cosmology.
Mitochondrial dysfunction has been a hallmark of cancer. However, whether it has a causative role awaits to be elucidated. Here, using an animal model derived from inactivation of SUV3, a ...mitochondrial helicase, we demonstrated that mSuv3+/- mice harbored increased mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) mutations and decreased mtDNA copy numbers, leading to tumor development in various sites and shortened lifespan. These phenotypes were transmitted maternally, indicating the etiological role of the mitochondria. Importantly, reduced SUV3 expression was observed in human breast tumor specimens compared with corresponding normal tissues in two independent cohorts. These results demonstrated for the first time that maintaining mtDNA integrity by SUV3 helicase is critical for cancer suppression.

Summary
This large cross-sectional study examined the associations of dietary intakes of total flavonoids and their subtypes with bone density in women and men. We found that greater flavonoid intake ...was associated with higher bone density in women but not in men.
Introduction
Studies in vitro and in animal models suggest a potential effect of flavonoids on bone health. Few studies have examined the association between the habitual intake of flavonoids and bone mineral density (BMD) in humans.
Methods
The cross-sectional study recruited 2,239 women and 1,078 men. A semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire was administered in face-to-face interviews to assess habitual dietary flavonoid intake using food composition databases. BMD was measured over the whole body (WB) and in the femoral neck (FN) and lumbar spine (LS) by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA).
Results
After adjusting for covariates, women who consumed higher total flavonoids, and the subtypes of flavonols, flavan-3-ols, flavones, and proanthocyanidins tended to have greater BMD at the WB, LS, and FN (all P-trend < 0.05). Women in the highest (vs. the lowest) quartile of total flavonoids intake had 0.020 (1.91 %), 0.021 (2.51 %), and 0.013 (1.99 %) g/cm
2
greater BMD at the whole body, LS, and FN, respectively. For the subtypes of flavonoids, the corresponding differences in BMD (in g/cm
2
) were 0.012–0.021 (flavan-3-ols), 0.013–0.020 (flavonols), 0.016–0.019 (flavones), and 0.014–0.016 (proanthocyanidins), respectively. A higher intake of flavonones was associated with a greater BMD at the whole body (P-trend 0.041) and the FN (P-trend 0.022). In men, there were no significant positive associations between the consumption of total flavonoids and the subclasses and BMD at any sites.
Conclusion
Dietary flavonoids intake was positively associated with BMD in women. Further large studies are needed to clarify this issue in men.

Presently, interesting research related to induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) is emerging. However, the development of new therapies and techniques for treatment of refractory diseases is still ...required in dermatology. We are exploring novel methods to provide stem cell therapy and elucidate research mechanisms underlying troublesome diseases by reprogramming iPSCs from the fibroblasts of keloid lesions from patients in vitro.
Here, we identified the expression of fibroblastic genes in the fibroblast derived from diseased individuals. Corresponding iPSCs were then produced by transfecting patient fibroblasts with non-modified RNA cocktails, expressing OCT4, SOX2, KLF4, cMYC, NANOG, and LIN28 reprogramming factors. The pluripotency of these patient-derived iPSCs was identified by immunocytochemistry, real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction, and teratoma formation in vivo in non-obese diabetic/severe combined immunodeficiency mice.
All iPSCs derived from patients significantly expressed the pluripotent transcription factors and could be expanded in vitro. Furthermore, induction of terminal differentiation in long-term culture and the capability of forming embryonic bodies to differentiate into all 3 germ layers in vivo were confirmed in immune-deficient mice.
Fibroblasts from a keloid patient were successfully reprogrammed to iPSCs in vitro. This reprogramming may provide a basis for the production of individualized modified artificial skin to prevent rejections after xenogeneic skin transplantation and trauma through autologous skin transplantation. These cells can also offer a new platform for research on mechanisms underlying skin diseases and personal medical applications.
•JSDK-iPSCs were reprogrammed from keloid patients' lesional dermal fibroblasts.•JSDK-iPSCs were pluripotent both in vivo and in vitro.•This reprogramming is a basis for building disease models.•The use of NM-RNA for reprogramming was found to be more efficient than other methods.

Hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) activity in China was surveyed to assess its current status. A record number of HCTs (21 884: 16 631 allogeneic (76%) and 5253 autologous (24%)) were reported ...by 76 centers in China between 1 January 2008 and 30 June 2016. HCT trends included continued growth in transplant activity, a continued rapid increase in haploidentical donors (HID), and slower growth for unrelated donors, matched-related donors (MRD) and cord blood transplantation (CBT). The proportion of HID HCT among allogeneic HCTs increased from 29.6% (313/1062) in 2008 to 48.8% (1939/3975) in 2015, even 51.7% (1157/2237) in the first half of 2016. During this time frame, the proportion of MRD HCTs among allogeneic HCTs decreased from 48.1% (511/1062) to 33.0% (332/3975). The proportion of unrelated donor HCTs among allogeneic HCTs decreased from 20.4 (216/1062) to 13.6% (540/3975). The proportion of CBTs among allogeneic HCTs was increased from 2.1% (22/1062) to 4.2% (184/3975). HCTs have been increasing continuously for all indications except chronic myelogenous leukemia. Severe aplastic anemia is a common HCT indication among non-malignant diseases in China. The number of cases of allogeneic HCT for this disorder has increased annually, from 59 (5.6%) in 2008 to 569 (14.3%) in 2015, even 334 (14.9%) in the first half year in 2016. This survey clearly shows recent trends for HCTs in China.
