Reduced graphene oxide (RGO) supported CdS@CuS core-shell nanorods (CdS@CuS/RGO) were prepared by a simple, solvothermal method involving cation-exchange for efficient degradation of the ...fluoroquinolone antibiotic, ciprofloxacin (CIP). CdS@CuS/RGO delivers superior photocatalytic degradation of CIP in simulated sunlight. Ascribed to the unique nanostructure, the CIP degradation efficiency of CdS@CuS/RGO reaches 91.5%, which is higher than that of CdS (67.1%) alone. Compared with previously reported catalysts, CdS@CuS/RGO exhibits higher degradation efficiency in less time and lower dosage. Furthermore, its degradation efficiency remains at around 81.5% after five usage cycles, which represents excellent cycling stability. Free radical scavenging experiments show that superoxide radicals and holes play important roles in the degradation. The CdS@CuS/RGO utilizes the synergistic effects of CdS, CuS and RGO to effectively retard the photo corrosion of CdS upon visible light exposure, reduce the band-gap energy, suppress the recombination of photo-generated electron-hole pairs and promote the adsorption of catalyst toward CIP, thereby, enhancing the catalytic performance of the composite.

Summary
An inerter‐based quasi‐zero stiffness (IQZS) vibration isolator is proposed to further enhance the dynamic performance of the QZS one. It combines the superior nonlinear stiffness ...characteristic of the QZS vibration isolator and the beneficial mass magnification effect of the inerter. The diamond‐shaped structure is used as the negative stiffness structure; an additional spring is added together with the inerter and damper to construct a novel IQZS vibration isolator, which the inerter and damper are first parallel connected and then series connected with the additional spring; it is a mixed‐connected (MC) type and termed as MC‐IQZS vibration isolator. The dynamic response of MC‐IQZS vibration isolator is acquired via harmonic balance method (HBM), and the isolation performance is evaluated using four performance criteria. The effects of the inerter and additional spring on its dynamic response and isolation performance are examined. The results show that the MC‐IQZS vibration isolator could have smaller displacement amplitude and force transmissibility peaks, wider isolation frequency band, and faster high‐frequency force transmissibility attenuation rate than the QZS one, and it can improve the four performance criteria simultaneously. Its isolation performance is further compared with another two typical types of IQZS vibration isolators where the inerter and damper are in parallel‐connected (PC) and series‐connected (SC), respectively, and they are denoted as PC‐IQZS and SC‐IQZS vibration isolators, respectively. The results demonstrate that the proposed MC‐IQZS vibration isolator could achieve the best isolation performance among the three IQZS ones, which offers an effective option for excellent vibration suppression in practical engineering.

Abstract Dihydroartemisinin (DHA) is a unique anti-malarial drug isolated from the plant Artemisia annua. Recently, it has been studied as an alternative modality for cancer therapy, utilizing its ...reactive oxygen species (ROS) yielding mechanism from interacting with Ferrous ion (Fe (Ⅱ)). In this work, a novel nanodrug (DHA-GO-Tf) is constructed based on nanoscale Graphene oxide (GO) dual-dressed with DHA and Transferrin (Tf). Tf dually functions as a pilot for the nanoparticle to target tumor cell with over expressed Transferrin receptor (TfR) and a ferric ion carrier. Upon tumor cellular endocytosis, Ferric ion (Fe(Ⅲ)) is released from the Tf, triggered by the low pH in the lysosomes of the tumor cell. The intracellular Fe (Ⅲ) is reduced to Fe (Ⅱ) and interacts with DHA to increase its cytotoxicity. The potential of this alternative anti-tumor modality is demonstrated both in vitro and in vivo . Comparing with DHA alone, the nanodrug DHA-GO-Tf resulted in a significantly enhanced tumor delivery specificity and cytotoxicity, and achieved a complete tumor cure in mice with minimal side-effects.

We report the designed synthesis of Co 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate coordination polymers (CPs) via a straightforward hydrothermal method, in which three kinds of reaction solvents are selected to ...form CPs with various morphologies and dimensions. When tested as anode materials in Li-ion battery, the cycling stabilities of the three CoBTC CPs at a current density of 100 mA g–1 have not evident difference; however, the reversible capacities are widely divergent when the current density is increased to 2 A g–1. The optimized product CoBTC-EtOH maintains a reversible capacity of 473 mAh g–1 at a rate of 2 A g–1 after 500 galvanostatic charging/discharging cycles while retaining a nearly 100% Coulombic efficiency. The hollow microspherical morphology, accessible specific area, and the absence of coordination solvent of CoBTC-EtOH might be responsible for such difference. Furthermore, the ex situ soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy studies of CoBTC-EtOH under different states-of-charge suggest that the Co ions remain in the Co2+ state during the charging/discharging process. Therefore, Li ions are inserted to the organic moiety (including the carboxylate groups and the benzene ring) of CoBTC without the direct engagement of Co ions during electrochemical cycling.

Bladder cancer (BCa) is one of the most prevalent cancers of the urinary system worldwide. Accumulating evidence suggests that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) perform a vital function in the ...pathogenesis and progression of BCa. In the current study, we identified a novel lncRNA OXCT1‐AS1 and investigated its role and potential mechanisms in BCa. The microarray results showed the expression of lncRNAs, microRNAs, and messenger RNAs between BCa primary tumor tissues and metastatic lymph nodes were significantly different. The quantitative polymerase chain reaction verification was performed to ensure the reliability of the screening results. The Cell Counting Kit 8 and transwell assay were used to assess the tumor cell proliferation and invasion abilities in vitro, respectively. The dual‐luciferase activity assay was performed to investigate the potential mechanism of competing endogenous RNA network. lncRNA OXCT1‐AS1, which elevated in metastasis lymph node, was significantly upregulated in BCa cell lines compared with SVHUC‐1. We demonstrated OXCT1‐AS1 inhibited miR‐455‐5p to decrease its binding to the JAK1 3′‐untranslated region, which could upregulate the expression of JAK1 at the protein level, thus promoting BCa proliferation and invasion. Therefore, lncRNA OXCT1‐AS1 could act as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target for patients with BCa.

Abstract
Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have emerged as new regulatory molecules implicated in diverse biological processes, including therapeutic resistance. However, the mechanisms underlying ...lncRNA-mediated temozolomide (TMZ) resistance in glioblastoma (GBM) remain largely unknown. To illustrate the role of lncRNA in TMZ resistance, we induce TMZ-resistant GBM cells, perform a lncRNA microarray of the parental and TMZ-resistant cells, and find an unreported lncRNA in GBM, lnc-TALC (temozolomide-associated lncRNA in glioblastoma recurrence), correlated with TMZ resistance via competitively binding miR-20b-3p to facilitate c-Met expression. A phosphorylated AKT/FOXO3 axis regulated lnc-TALC expression in TMZ-resistant GBM cells. Furthermore, lnc-TALC increased MGMT expression by mediating the acetylation of H3K9, H3K27 and H3K36 in MGMT promoter regions through the c-Met/Stat3/p300 axis. In clinical patients, lnc-TALC is required for TMZ resistance and GBM recurrence. Our results reveal that lnc-TALC in GBM could serve as a therapeutic target to overcome TMZ resistance, enhancing the clinical benefits of TMZ chemotherapy.
Nonlinear energy sink (NES) is an appropriately designed nonlinear oscillator without positive linear stiffness. NES can suppress vibrations over a wide frequency range due to its targeted energy ...transfer characteristics. Thus, investigations on NES have attracted a lot of attention since a NES was proposed. Designs, analysis, and applications of NESs are still active since different configurations are needed in various practical circumstances. The present work provides a comprehensive review of state-of-the-art researches on NESs. The work begins with a survey of the generation of a NES and its important vibration control characteristics. The work highlights possible complex dynamics resulting in a NES coupled to a structure. The work also summarizes some significant design on the implements of optimal damping effects and the offsets of NES shortcomings. Then, the work details the applications of NESs in all engineering fields. The concluding remarks suggest further promising directions, such as NESs for multidirectional vibration reduction, NESs with nonlinearities beyond the cubic, potential deterioration caused by a NES, low-cost NESs, NESs for extremely low frequency range, and NESs integrated into active vibration controls. Our previous studies have demonstrated that stable microRNAs (miRNAs) in mammalian serum and plasma are actively secreted from tissues and cells and can serve as a novel class of biomarkers for ...diseases, and act as signaling molecules in intercellular communication. Here, we report the surprising finding that exogenous plant miRNAs are present in the sera and tissues of various animals and that these exogenous plant miRNAs are primarily acquired orally, through food intake. MIR168a is abundant in rice and is one of the most highly enriched exogenous plant miRNAs in the sera of Chinese subjects. Functional studies in vitro and in vivo demonstrated that MIR168a could bind to the human/mouse low-density lipoprotein receptor adapter protein 1 (LDLRAP1) mRNA, inhibit LDLRAP1 expression in liver, and consequently decrease LDL removal from mouse plasma. These findings demonstrate that exogenous plant miRNAs in food can regulate the expression of target genes in mammals.

Methylation of Lys residues in the tail of the H3 histone is a key regulator of chromatin state and gene expression, conferred by a large family of enzymes containing an evolutionarily conserved SET ...domain. One of the main types of SET domain proteins are those controlling H3K4 di- and trimethylation. The genome of Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) encodes 12 such proteins, including five ARABIDOPSIS TRITHORAX (ATX) proteins and seven ATX-Related proteins. Here, we examined three until-now-unexplored ATX proteins, ATX3, ATX4, and ATX5. We found that they exhibit similar domain structures and expression patterns and are redundantly required for vegetative and reproductive development. Concurrent disruption of the ATX3, ATX4, and ATX5 genes caused marked reduction in H3K4me2 and H3K4me3 levels genome-wide and resulted in thousands of genes expressed ectopically. Furthermore, atx3/atx4/atx5 triple mutants resulted in exaggerated phenotypes when combined with the atx2 mutant but not with atx1. Together, we conclude that ATX3, ATX4, and ATX5 are redundantly required for H3K4 di- and trimethylation at thousands of sites located across the genome, and genomic features associated with targeted regions are different from the ATXR3/SDG2-controlled sites in Arabidopsis.

Distributed energy systems encompass a diverse range of generation and storage solutions on the user side, where decentralized management schemes to maximize the overall social welfare are preferred ...considering their dispersed ownership. However, either security or privacy problems occur in recently proposed schemes. Here we report a decentralized framework leveraging the strengths of blockchain and parallelizable mathematical algorithms to overcome these potential drawbacks. The system owners bid cost functions and operating constraints through masked but coupled management subproblems, which are redistributed by the blockchain to be verifiably solved by competent peers. Such processes are iteratively executed as decisions and shadow prices are exchanged among participants, until an equilibrium is reached. The interactive framework ensures decentralized, privacy-preserving, and secure management of multiple energy sources, and reduces the total cost by 3.0 ~ 7.5% in the test system. Our results benefit the energy prosumers and promote a more active and competitive power grid.
