Large-scale transport systems project expansive geographical reach via far-reaching connectivity and spillovers. This phenomenon, however, is understudied for its impact on economic and spatial ...relations across geographic scales and economic domains and the mechanism carrying and transmitting that impact. Despite its short existence, the China-Europe Freight Train (CEFT) has already created a long geographical reach and major impact on the transport landscape spanning China, Central Asia, and Europe. This paper argues that a new logistics state in China at the local level is driving and sustaining the CEFT from below relative to the national government and market forces. Using the ancient city of Xi'an as a characteristic embodiment of a logistics state, this paper demonstrates how the logistics state-driven CEFT has multiplied routes and redirected trade flows between China and Europe, reorganized inter-city and cross-border production and supply chains from China to Europe, stimulated a new geography of globally oriented and nationally rebalanced local consumption in China, and fueled major new development in an ancient and economically lagging city. The paper concludes on critical complications and implications from the Chinese local logistics state for the CEFT's sustainability and future research.

An interaction function was constructed based on the axial compression/tension and shear loads of orthotropic plates. The coefficients of the polynomial function were determined by uniaxial test ...results. Buckling interaction and failure interaction formulae under combined axial tension/compression and shear loads were established. Based on the uniaxial load test results of orthotropic plates, the buckling load and bearing capacity under any proportion of the combined loads could be predicted by using the proposed interaction formulae. The buckling interaction curves and failure envelopes predicted by the proposed interaction formulae were in excellent agreement with the test results.

MicroRNAs play an important role in the migration and invasion of tumors, and lower expression of microRNA-1 (miR-1) has been proven in a variety of malignant tumors, including esophageal squamous ...cell carcinoma (ESCC). In this study, we found that miR-1 expression levels in tumor tissues and preoperative serum from esophageal carcinoma patients were lower than those in non-tumorous tissues and healthy volunteers. miR-1 expression in tissues and plasma was closely related to invasion, lymph node metastasis and TNM staging. Additionally, miR-1 expression levels in tissues and plasma were positively correlated. miR-1 inhibited cell proliferation, migration and invasion. Overexpression of miR-1 in ESCC cells reduced Notch2 protein but not mRNA levels, whereas suppression of miR-1 led to an increase in Notch2 protein but not mRNA levels. A dual-luciferase experiment validated that Notch2 was a direct target of miR-1. Introducing Notch2 mRNA into cells over-expressing miR-1 partially abrogated the effects of miR-1 on migration and invasion. Further studies verified that miR-1 regulates EMT signalling pathways directly through Notch2. Therefore, these results confirm that, as a tumor suppressor gene, miR-1 may be a potential tumor marker for the early diagnosis of ESCC and a new drug target.

Arguing that the focus in global urban studies on cities such as New York, London, Tokyo in the global North, Mexico City and Shanghai in the developing world, and other major nodes of the world ...economy, has skewed the concept of the global city toward economics, this volume gathers a diverse group of contributors to focus on smaller and less economically dominant cities. It highlights other important and relatively ignored themes such as cultural globalization, alternative geographies of the global, and the influence of deeper urban histories (particularly those relating to colonialism) in order to advance an alternative view of the global city.
The compression behavior of a damaged I-section stiffened panel repaired by the bolted metal patch method is studied experimentally and numerically by the finite element method in this paper. In the ...finite element model, the bolt was simulated by a combination of beam elements coupled to rigid contact surfaces, the coupling failure criterion and a new delamination criterion were used to analyze the failure of composite laminates and bonding interfaces, respectively. The repairing effects of the mechanical fastening method are compared with the panels with damage. The results show that the load-carrying capacity of the repaired panel increases significantly compared with the panel with damage. The experimental results validate the proposed finite element model. Finally, an improved repair configuration is proposed based on the finite element simulation. This shows that the presented repair is useful and effective to repair the damaged composite structures.

Urban heritage sites in central cities are most difficult to protect during rapid and large scale urban (re)development. Rising land values from property development conflict with and constrain ...heritage preservation. Compared with many cities in developed and developing countries, large Chinese cities have experienced a stronger redevelopment imperative, faster population growth, and a weaker concern for urban heritages over the last three decades. We use Shanghai to examine the contested evolution of heritage preservation against massive urban redevelopment through three stages from 1990 to the present. Using three heritage projects (Xintiandi, Tianzifang, Bugaoli), we focus on: 1) how each project was implemented and the economic and spatial outcomes each has produced; 2) how the mode of each project's development interacted with the shifting official policies for heritage preservation; and 3) the implications of the findings, theoretical and practical, for more effective urban preservation.
In some frequency-sharing studies between fixed service and space radiocommunication services, including fixed-satellite, broadcasting-satellite, and space science services, it is necessary to ...estimate the apparent elevation angle of a space station, taking into account the atmospheric refraction. Recommendations ITU-R (International Telecommunication Union—Radiocommunication) P.834-9 and F.1333-1 detail similar methods regarding calculating the refraction correction for the elevation angle of the mean annual global reference atmosphere. Herein, both methods are approximated using the bending angle from the ground to the infinity height; this approach is most suitable for geosynchronous orbit satellites. In this paper, new methods for calculating the refraction correction for the elevation angle are proposed regarding the mean annual global reference atmosphere given in Recommendation ITU-R P.835-6. Specifically, the results of the ray-tracing method are fitted. The height of the new formulae is 100 km above sea level. For higher altitudes, correction methods are given based on free-space propagation. The proposed methods can be applied to the calculation of the refraction correction for the elevation of the mean annual global reference atmosphere for satellites at different orbital heights. Furthermore, these new methods compare favourably to the two ITU-R Recommendations.

Abstract
As the narrative of globalisation in crisis heats up, China has stepped up as a new champion of globalisation with its 'Belt and Road Initiative'. This article repositions 'China in the ...Global South' to the front and centre of the globalisation discourse. Through a triangular framework, I differentiate and reconnect the three 'master' processes of urbanisation, development and globalisation to understand the inside-outside connections between China's domestic transformation and strong impact in the Global South. Using China vs Southeast Asia and Central Asia, I document how China's westward development has created new development opportunities for its overland neighbours and beyond, and identify the challenges that accompany these opportunities.
The suppressing effects of chronic stress on sexual desire have long been noted. Yet the biological mechanisms underlying such effects, especially at the level of cellular biology of testicular ...cells, have not been fully investigated.
In the present study, we used a chronic unpredictable mild stress model to examine the association between chronic stress and structural alterations in the male reproductive system.
The main outcome measures were the structural changes in sperm cells and Leydig cells of male rats. We used Agmo and Ellingsen's procedure to study partner preference behavior and observed the morphology of Leydig cells and germ cells in the control and stress groups.
Our methods included histology, electron microscopy, and animal behavior tests.
The results showed that after 5 weeks of chronic stress exposure, partner preference behavior was impaired, the total surface area of Leydig cells and the number and diameter of seminiferous tubules decreased significantly, and the number and size of Leydig cells, as well as the number and the short‐axis diameter of spermatogenic cells, also decreased. At the ultrastructural level, transmission electron microscopy revealed that the basement membranes of seminiferous tubules in stressed rats was far thinner, had a low density, and was uneven in thickness compared with the normal group, with enhanced apoptosis in germ cells.

Conclusions
Myoferlin is a candidate prognostic biomarker for gastric cancer and plays an essential role in regulating redox equilibrium and gastric cancer cell migration. Myoferlin may also be a new target for treatment of patients with gastric cancer.
