Prognostic factors aid in the stratification and treatment of cancer. This study evaluated prognostic importance of tumor infiltrating immune cell in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma.
...Profiles of infiltrating immune cells and clinicopathological data were available for 78 OSCC patients with a median follow-up of 48 months. The infiltrating intensity of CD8, CD4, T-bet, CD68 and CD57 positive cells were assessed by immunohistochemistry. Chi-square test was used to compare immune markers expression and clinicopathological parameters. Univariate and multivariate COX proportional hazard models were used to assess the prognostic discriminator power of immune cells. The predictive potential of immune cells for survival of OSCC patients was determined using ROC and AUC.
The mean value of CD8, CD4, T-bet, CD68 and CD57 expression were 28.99, 62.06, 8.97, 21.25 and 15.75 cells per high-power field respectively. The patient cohort was separated into low and high expression groups by the mean value. Higher CD8 expression was associated with no regional lymph node metastasis (p = 0.033). Patients with more abundant stroma CD57
cells showed no metastasis into regional lymph node (p = 0.005), and early clinical stage (p = 0.016). The univariate COX regression analyses showed that no lymph node involvement (p < 0.001), early clinical stage (TNM staging I/II vs III/IV, p = 0.007), higher CD8 and CD57 expression (p < 0.001) were all positively correlated with longer overall survival. Multivariate COX regression analysis showed that no lymph node involvement (p = 0.008), higher CD8 (p = 0.03) and CD57 (p < 0.001) expression could be independent prognostic indicators of better survival. None of CD4, T-bet or CD68 was associated with survival in ether univariate or multivariate analysis. ROC and AUC showed that the predictive accuracy of CD8 and CD57 were all superior compared with TNM staging. CD57 (AUC = 0.868; 95% CI, 0.785-0.950) and CD8 (AUC = 0.784; 95% CI, 0.680-0.889) both provided high predictive accuracy, of which, CD57 was the best predictor.
Tumor stroma CD57 and CD8 expression was associated with lymphnode status and independently predicts survival of OSCC patients. Our results suggest an active immune microenvironment in OSCC that may be targetable by immune drugs.

Background/Aims: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) can be used as biomarkers for cardiovascular diseases, especially for heart failure. However, there are few reports on serum exosomal miRNA biomarkers in patients ...with acute heart failure (AHF) due to Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). Methods: We analyzed 3 different serum exosomal miRNAs (exo-miR-92b-5p, exo-miR-192-5p, and exo-miR-320a) in 43 patients with DCM-AHF and 34 healthy volunteers as a control group (CG) by using exosome separation followed by a quantitative reverse-transcript PCR assay. Exosomes were identified by electron microscopy, NaNOZS-90, and western blot analyses (CD63 and Hsp70). Results: Serum exo-miR-92b-5p expression was increased in DCM-AHF patients compared to the CG (Mann–Whitney U-test: P < 0.001). Exo-miR-92b-5p was positively related to age and some ultrasound data (Spearman’s correlation: exo-miR-92b-5p vs. age, r = 0.297, P = 0.014; exo-miR-92b-5p vs. left atrial diameter, r = 0.431, P < 0.001; exo-miR-92b-5p vs. left ventricular diastolic diameter, r = 0.419, P < 0.001; exo-miR-92b-5p vs. left ventricular systolic diameter, r = 0.446, P < 0.001). Exo-miR-92b-5p was also negatively related to other ultrasound data (Spearman’s correlation: exo-miR-92b-5p vs. left ventricular fraction shortening, r = -0.497, P < 0.001; exo-miR-92b-5p vs. left ventricular ejection fraction, r = -0.482, P < 0.001). The discrimination of DCM-AHF patients from the CG by exo-miR-92b-5p was demonstrated by a receiver operating characteristic curve (exo-miR-92b-5p: cutoff value = 0.0023, area under the curve = 0.808, P < 0.001, sensitivity = 62.8%, specificity = 85.3%). Conclusion: Serum exo-miR-92b-5p is a potential biomarker for the diagnosis of DCM-AHF.
Covalent organic frameworks have shown considerable application potential and exceptional properties in the construction of stimulus-responsive materials. Here, we designed a sweat-responsive ...covalent organic framework film for material-based fingerprint liveness detection. When exposed to human sweat, the COF
film can transform from yellow to red. The COF
film, when touched by living fingers, can produce the naked-eye-identified fingerprint pattern through the sweat-induced color change, while artificial fake fingerprints cannot. This technique, which we named material-based liveness detection, can thus intuitively discern living fingers from fake fingerprints with a 100% accuracy rate. Additionally, the distribution of sweat pores on human skin can also be collected and analyzed by shortening the contact time. By merely washing them with ethanol, all the samples can be utilized again. This work inventively accomplished material-based liveness detection and naked-eye-identified sweat pore analysis and highlighted their potential for use in clinical research and personal identification.
Since the reform and opening up, China's economy has achieved amazing growth. At the same time of industrialization transformation, the traditional high-energy consumption and external growth model ...has brought serious environmental problems, and the pollution control situation is facing many difficulties. The Yellow River Valley gives birth to the Chinese civilization. With the formulation of the national strategy for ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin and the demand for green development, the control of industrial pollution has become the main task of environmental protection in the Yellow River Basin. However, the research on the ecotope pollution in the Yellow River Valley mainly stays in the theory and strategy. In response to the above problems, this paper would carry out scientific data analysis and high-dimensional research on the ecotope pollution in the Yellow River Valley from the perspective of green development and data analysis algorithms. The research results showed that the reconstruction probability of the Threshold-based Sparsity Adaptive Matching Pursuit (TSAMP) algorithm remained 100% when K was less than 50.
Icotinib has been widely used in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and have significantly enhanced the overall survival rate of NSCLC patients. However, acquired drug resistance ...limits its clinical efficacy. Tumor cell-derived exosomes have been reported to participate in various biological processes, including tumor invasion, metastasis and drug resistance.
In the present study, drug resistance was measured by MTT assay. Exosomes were extracted from the cell supernatant using ultracentrifugation and identified by exosomal marker. HCC827 cells were treated with exosomes derived from icotinib-resistant (IR) HCC827 to observe the invasion and migration of parent cells. The expression of exo-mRNA was analyzed by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). In addition, 10 exo-mRNAs detecting from the plasma and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) of NSCLC patients with icotinib treatment were used to establish a new drug resistant-warning formula.
The oncogene MET into exosomes was identified from icotinib-resistant lung cancer cells, and this was also presented in exosomes in NSCLC patients diagnosed with cancer metastasis after icotinib treatment. The knockdown of MET in exosomes significantly decreased the ability of invasion and migration in HCC827 cells.
It was suggested that MET might be specifically package and transferred by exosomes to modify the invasion and migration ability of the surrounding icotinib-sensitive cells.

Life expectancy at birth (LE) is a comprehensive measure that accounts for age-specific death rates in a population. Shanghai has ranked first in LE in China mainland for decades. Understanding the ...reasons behind its sustained gain in LE provides a good reflection of many other cities in China. The aim of this study is intended to explore temporal trend in age- and cause-specific gains in LE in Shanghai and the probable reasons lay behind.
Joinpoint regression was applied to evaluate temporal trend in LE and the long time span was then divided accordingly. Contributions to change in LE (1973-2015) were decomposed by age and cause at corresponding periods.
LE in Shanghai could be divided into four phases ie., descent (1973-1976), recovery (1976-1998), rapid rise (1998-2004) and slow rise (2004-2015). The growing LE was mainly attributed to reductions in mortality from the elderly populations and chronic diseases such as cerebrovascular disease, chronic lower respiratory disease, and gastrointestinal cancers (stomach, liver and esophageal cancer).
The four-decade sustained gain in LE in Shanghai is due to the reductions in mortality from the elderly and chronic diseases such as cerebrovascular disease, chronic lower respiratory disease, and gastrointestinal cancers. Further growth momentum still comes from the elderly population.

Endometriosis is an estrogen-dependent gynecological disease. The pathogenesis of endometriosis remains controversial, although it is generally accepted that the inflammatory immune response plays a ...crucial role in this process. Mast cells (MCs) are multifunctional innate immune cells that accumulate in endometriotic lesions. However, the molecular mechanism by which estrogen modulates MCs in the development of endometriosis is not well understood. Here we report that estrogen can induce the expression of NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) through estrogen receptor (ER)-α
the estrogen responsive element (ERE) in MCs. Such transcriptional regulation is necessary for the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome and the production of mature interleukin (IL)-1β in MCs. Targeted inhibition of NLRP3 significantly restrained lesion progression and fibrogenesis in a mouse model of endometriosis. Collectively, these findings suggest that MCs contribute to the development of endometriosis through NLRP3 inflammasome activation mediated by nuclear-initiated estrogen signaling pathway.
Background The mechanism of long non-coding RNA MIR137HG in human gastric cancer (GC) is currently unknown. In the present study, we aimed to explore the function and mechanism of MIR137HG in gastric ...cancer. Methods The expression of lncRNA-MIR137HG in 69 gastric cancer samples and their paired surgical margin (SM) tissue samples were tested by QRT-PCR. UCSC was used to find the gene location relationship among MIR137HG and its embedded miRNAs. TargetScan was used to predict the targets of miR-2682-3p. Starbase was used to predict the candidate proteins that interacted with MIR137HG. Western blot, co-focus, and RIP assay were used to verify the direct interaction between MIR137HG and FUS (fused in sarcoma/translocated in liposarcoma, FUS/TLS), while dual-luciferase reporter assay was used to confirm the interaction between miR-2682-3p and FUS. Cell migration assays, colony formation, and xenografts assay were used to investigate the function of MIR137HG and miR-2682-3p to tumor growth and metastasis. Western blot assay was used to explore the downstream candidate protein of FUS. Results Data showed that MIR137HG expressed significantly higher in GC than in SM. MIR137HG promoted colony formation and migration in vitro and promoted tumor formation and metastasis in vivo. MIR137HG is distributed in both the nucleus and cytoplasm. It was co-located with FUS and could directly interact with FUS, which might interact with other proteins, such as MET(MET-proto-oncogene, receptor tyrosine kinase), RHOC(ras homolog family member), and CTNNB1(catenin beta1). These proteins may involve different signaling pathways to regulate gastric cancer progression. By contrast, the embedded miR-2682-3p could antagonize the series functions of its host lncRNA-MIR137HG by targeting FUS. Conclusions lncRNA-MIR137HG promoted growth and metastasis in gastric cancer by interacting with FUS, while miR-2682-3p could inhibit the function of MIR137HG via the same target FUS. Keywords: LncRNA, MIR137HG, miR-2682-3p, FUS, Gastric cancer

Membrane fouling is an inevitable obstacle of polyamide composite forward osmosis (FO) membranes in oily wastewater treatment. In this study, zwitterionic arginine (Arg) is grafted onto nascent ...self-made FO polyamide poly(ether sulfone) (PA-PES) membrane, imparting superior hydrophilic, antifouling, and antibacterial properties to the membrane. Detailed characterizations revealed that the Arg-modified (Arg-PES) membrane presented obviously surface positively charged and unique morphology. Results showed that our strategy endowed the optimized membrane, the water flux increased by 113.2% compared to the pristine membrane, respectively, meanwhile keeping high NaCl rejection > 93.9% (with DI water as feed solution and 0.5 M NaCl as draw solution, FO mode). The dynamic fouling tests indicated that the Arg-PES membranes exhibited much improved antifouling performance towards oily wastewater treatment. The flux recovery ratios of the membrane were as high as 92.0% for cationic emulsified oil (cetyl pyridinium chloride, CPC), 87.0% for neutral emulsified oil (Tween-80), and 86.0% for anionic emulsified oil (sodium dodecyl sulfate, SDS) after washing, respectively. Meanwhile, the Arg-PES membranes assembled with guanidine cationic groups exhibited an enhanced antibacterial property against E. coli, which exhibited a high antibacterial efficiency of approximately 96%. Consequently, the newly arginine functionalized FO membrane possesses impressive antifouling performance, while simultaneously resisting bacterial invasion, thus rendering it an ideal alternative for oily wastewater treatment in the FO process.
