A hydrothermal process has been used to synthesize manganese oxides of various crystalline structures and morphologies, such as alpha -, beta -, gamma -MnO sub(2), MnOOH and Mn sub(3)O sub(4). The ...nanostructured materials were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and hydrogen temperature-programmed reduction (H sub(2)-TPR) techniques. The crystalline evolution mechanism of converting beta -MnO sub(2) or MnOOH to alpha -MnO sub(2) was studied. The crystalline-dependent effect of the nanostructured manganese oxides was explored by using toluene combustion as a probe reaction. Results indicated that the catalytic activity of alpha -MnO sub(2) with ultra-long nanowires is higher than that of manganese oxides with other crystalline structures. The catalytic activity was correlated with the H sub(2)-TPR and XPS results.
A new method was developed for the simultaneous determination of six phthalate esters in bottled milks using ultrasound-assisted dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction (UA-DLLME) followed by gas ...chromatography–flame ionization detection (GC–FID). 0.8
mL of methanol (dispersant) and 40
μL of CCl

mL of milk solution and then emulsified the mixture by ultrasound for 2.0
min to form the cloudy solution. Under the optimum condition, the enrichment factors of the analytes ranged from 220 to 270 fold and the recovery ranged from 93.2% to 105.7%. Good linearity was observed for all analytes in a range of 0.8–51
ng
g
−1 with the correlation coefficient (
r
2) ≥0.9992. The limits of detection (LODs) based on signal to noise of 3 were 0.64–0.79
ng
g
−1. The repeatability evaluated as intra-day and inter-day precision (relative standard deviation, RSD) were less than 4.0% (

•Simple and rapid vortex-assisted magnetic dispersive solid-phase microextraction.•Magnetic dummy imprinted microspheres synthesised by aqueous suspension polymerisation.•Selective screening and ...recognition of dicofol in tea products.•Extraction efficiency was markedly increased with reduced equilibrium time.
A simple and rapid vortex-assisted magnetic dispersive solid-phase microextraction (VAMDSME) method coupled with gas chromatography-electronic capture detection was developed for rapid screening and selective recognition of dicofol in tea products. The magnetic molecularly imprinted microspheres (mag-MIMs) synthesised by aqueous suspension polymerisation using dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) as a dummy template showed high selectivity and affinity to dicofol in aqueous solution and were successfully applied as special adsorbents of VAMDSME for rapid isolation of dicofol from complex tea matrix. Good linearity was obtained in a range of 0.2–160ngg−1 and the limit of detection based on a signal to noise ratio of 3 was 0.05ngg−1. The recoveries at three spiked levels ranged from 83.6% to 94.5% with the related standard deviations (RSD)⩽5.0%. The VAMDSME-GC protocol, which took advantages of the selective adsorption of molecularly imprinted microspheres and rapid magnetic phase separation, as well as the short equilibrium time by vortex-assisted, could avoid the time-consuming procedures related to other traditional extraction methods.

In this study, ZnAl-layered double hydroxide (ZnAl-LDH) was functionalized with 2-phenylbenzimidazole-5-sulfonic acid (PBSA) to prepare ZnAl-PBSA-LDH using a simple one-step method. The ...electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) result of the solution phase demonstrated excellent corrosion inhibition performance of ZnAl-PBSA-LDH. Subsequently, 0.6 wt.% ZnAl-PBSA-LDH with shielding effects and active inhibition was incorporated into the water-based epoxy (WEP) for preparing the high-performance anti-corrosion coating (6-ZPL/WEP). The EIS test illustrated that the 6-ZPL/WEP coating maintained a high low-frequency impedance modulus (|Z
|) after 30 days of immersion, which is nearly two orders of magnitude higher compared to that of the blank coating. These results demonstrated that ZnAl-PBSA-LDH could efficiently improve the corrosion resistance of the WEP coating. Therefore, this study introduces new insights into the use of layered double hydroxides (LDHs) in the domain of anti-corrosion.

In this paper, a highly selective sample cleanup procedure combing dummy molecular imprinting and solid-phase extraction (DMI-SPE) was developed for the simultaneous isolation and determination of ...five phthalate esters in plastic bottled beverages. The new imprinted microspheres were synthesized via precipitation polymerization using diisononyl phthalate as a dummy template that showed high selectivity and affinity to the five kinds of phthalate esters and were successfully applied as selective sorbents of DMI-SPE for the simultaneous determination of the phthalate esters from plastic bottled beverages. Good linearity was obtained in a range of 5.0–750.0 μg/L, and the average recoveries of the five phthalate esters at three spiked levels ranged from 84.3 to 96.2% with the relative standard deviations less than 5.49%. The developed extraction protocol eliminated the effect of template leakage on quantitative analysis and could be applied for the determination of phthalate esters in complicated functional beverages products.

Chiral sulfoxides are valuable organosulfur compounds that have been widely used in medicinal and organic synthesis. Biocatalytic approaches for preparing chiral sulfoxides were developed in the past ...few years, mainly through asymmetric oxidation of prochiral sulfides. Recently, the application of sulfoxide reductase to prepare chiral sulfoxides through kinetic resolution has emerged as a new method, exhibiting extraordinary catalytic properties. This article reviews the chemical and biological functions of these sulfoxide reductases and highlights their applications in chiral sulfoxide preparation.
Magnetic multi-core–shell molecularly imprinted microspheres (Fe3O4@MIMs) based on multi-Fe3O4 nanoparticles as core structures and dummy imprinted materials as shell structures have been synthesized ...by a surface-imprinted technique using dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane as the dummy template and were successfully used as a specific adsorbent for rapid isolation of trace levels of dicofol from teas. The resulting Fe3O4@MIMs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, vibrating sample magnetometer, and thermogravimetric analysis. In comparison to the imprinted polymers prepared by the traditional polymerizations, the obtained Fe3O4@MIMs showed regularly spherical shape, porous morphologies, high saturation magnetization 56.8 electromagnetic units (emu)/g, and rapid response time (15 s). The as-synthesized Fe3O4@MIMs, which incorporated the excellent molecular recognition and magnetic separation properties, were successfully used as special adsorbents for rapid isolation and extraction of trace levels of dicofol and its analogues from a complicated tea matrix.

TiAlSiN coatings with different Si content were prepared by hollow cathode discharge (HCD) and mid-frequency magnetron sputtering (MFMS) hybrid coating deposition technology. The chemical ...composition, microstructure, mechanical properties of these coatings were systematically investigated by means of energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), nanoindentation measurement, scratch and high speed milling hardened steel tests. The coatings prepared by this method showed the structure of crystalline phase was corresponding to that of TiAlN, however, different preferred orientation with addition of Si. Proper content of Si into TiAlN led to increase of microhardness and adhesion. TiAlSiN coated end mill with Si content of 4.78 at.% had the least flank wear, which was improved about 20% milling distance than TiAlN coated end mill.

The physical environment of classrooms has a strong relationship with student learning performance and health. Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2019, almost all universities have begun implementing ...closed instructional management, which has forced students to spend a much longer amount of time inside the classroom. This has also led to an increasing problem of thermal comfort in classroom indoor environments. In this paper, classrooms evolved from three dominant teaching modes at Zhejiang Sci-Tech University (ZSTU), located in the Hot Summer and Cold Winter (HSCW) zone of China, were selected as experimental spaces. Meanwhile, 12 learning groups with 60 students (30 of each sex) were selected as the tested samples. The relationship between thermal comfort and learning efficiency of the tested students was established through thermal comfort questionnaires and learning efficiency tests under the typical natural conditions in transition seasons. Based on this, improvement strategies were proposed for the current state of the classroom environment, providing a database for optimizing the environmental conditions of university classrooms in HSCW zone on the basis of improving students’ learning efficiency.
