Our article aims to study the attitudes of the elite to family life and gender equality. This is a social group who still experiences significant gender imbalances. We focus on attitudes to family ...life, which has thus far been underresearched in elite literature. With the help of the analysis of 34 individual interviews with members of the Hungarian political, economic, and cultural elite, we identify and present three types of narrative identities: dominant, deferential, and egalitarian. The main finding from our qualitative content analysis is that egalitarian partnership norms which were discussed in every narrative and gender equality appear in most cases as a norm among the elite. However, there is a narrative tension between this norm and the couples’ actual experiences of their family life. We conclude our article with some comments on how the ideology of egalitarian essentialism strengthens gender inequalities reinforcing the underrepresentation of women in elite positions.

A helyi sajátosságok, értékek megjelenítése a vidékimázs és a helyi identitás megerősítése és fejlesztése egyre fontosabb kérdés a vidéki térségekben élők számára, mivel azok megjelennek a ...települések és helyi közösségek fejlesztési startégiáiban, de befolyásolják az adott térség idegenforgalomban, migrációs folyamatokban betöltött szerepét is. Napjainkban egyre hangsúlyosabb szerephez jut Magyarországon is vidékiség értelmezések vizsgálata, így ezzel párhuzamosan a vidékszociológiai kutatások egyre jelentősebb témájává is válik a kérdés. A tanulmány célja, hogy egy szisztematikus irodalmi áttekintés alapján feltárja, milyen módszerekkel vizsgálta az elmúlt két évtizedben a nemzetközi tudomány a tágan értelmezett vidékimázst és vidéki identitást. A dolgozat első felében a vidékimázs, vidékidill, vidékreprezentáció és vidéki identitás kifejezések megjelenését és elterjedését mutatjuk be a tudományos diskurzusban, majd pedig átfogó irodalmi áttekintés segítségével vizsgáljuk a fenti témákhoz kapcsolódó különböző módszertanok (kérdőíves, interjús, NLP, részvételi) elterjedtségét, és összevetjük a különböző módszertani megközelítések lehetséges korlátait és előnyeit.
Self-promotion and reinterpretation of local identity is becoming increasingly important in rural communities. Local identity building is succeeded very differently by rural municipalities and ...regions. The paper analyses the role of small towns in local identity creation. There are varying interpretations of places in Hungary as ways of achieving meaningful territorialisation. Small towns based on their leading and central position within the micro regions can dominate the place-making processes. Using the example of six Hungarian rural micro-regions we analyse how rural small towns position themselves by local image building. The aim of this paper is to investigate interactions between territorial position and innovative capacity of rural towns through the analysis of symbolisation process and image building. We purpose to introduce a concept of a place oriented approach and demonstrate its usefulness for analysis of rural innovation and place-based development. The case-studies are based on qualitative methods: document-analysis, semi-structured interviews, transect walking and participatory observation. The paper analyses the process of local community and identity building in six rural micro-regions. We seek to understand how small towns position themselves in place-making, the aim of ‘placing’ themselves in the territorial hierarchy of the settlements of micro region. Our results suggest that small towns play very different roles in local image building. Characteristics and territorial scope of local cultural heritage significantly determine the innovative capacity of small towns in local image building where there is a wide range of meanings procedures and processes of place-making.

Academic interest in ecosystem services has been growing in the past ten years or more with an increasing number of research studies and papers being dedicated to this complex and diverse field of ...enquiry. However, Cultural Ecosystem Services have been relatively under-researched, especially in terms of their value to landscapes. The Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (2005) argued that cultural services and values were not recognised enough in landscape planning and management, therefore the implications for rural landscape development are considered in this paper. This paper focuses on the value of Cultural Ecosystem Services in two rural landscapes in Hungary (Őrség and Kalocsa) using in-depth interviews with a range of local stakeholders. The research analyses the relative value of different categories of Cultural Ecosystem Services focusing mainly on social, symbolic and economic values. The findings reveal the central importance of cultural heritage in relation to other categories of CES, especially its social and symbolic values.
•Cultural heritage is the most important dimension of cultural ecosystems services.•Cultural heritage has strong social and symbolic values for local communities which are not necessarily connected to use-value.

The paper focuses on three dimensions of Cultural Ecosystem Services—cultural heritage, sense of place and tourism—and examines the relationships between them in a rural landscape context. Sense of ...place connects to landscapes that foster authentic human attachment, cultural heritage values and elements of local history and culture. This suggests that a sense of place cannot be considered in isolation from cultural heritage. However, cultural heritage has been relatively under-researched in the context of cultural ecosystem services, where it is defined as the tangible and intangible benefits that are derived mostly from landscapes. Researchers in rural development have highlighted the importance of sense of place and cultural heritage in both place-making and tourism development. This study explores these relationships further using three case studies from rural Hungary based on in-depth interviews with local stakeholders. The findings demonstrate that cultural heritage is an inherent part of rural place-making in Hungary and that cultural heritage values strongly shape a sense of place. Social and intangible aspects of cultural heritage are the most important for place-making, especially authentic local traditions. The findings suggest that even though a strong sense of place based on cultural heritage is a pre-requisite for tourism development, initiatives have often been more successful in strengthening social cohesion and cultural identity rather than attracting tourists.
A tanulmány a magyar vidéki társadalomban új csoportként megjelenő, ún. kreatív női vállalkozókat elemzi vidékszociológiai megközelítésben. A tanulmány egy kvalitatív szociológiai vizsgálatra épül, ...amelyben 48 félig strukturált interjú készült olyan kreatív vidéki vállalkozónőkkel, akik kreatív és újító termékeikkel, valamint szolgáltatásaikkal az elmúlt évtizedekben jelentek meg a világhálón, a vidéki fesztiválokon, illetve a helyi gazdaságban, új tevékenységi típust és új életformát teremtve a vidéki Magyarországon. Az elemzés középpontjában a vállalkozásalapítás motivációja áll. Az empirikusan megalapozott típusalkotás módszerével a tanulmány a kreatív vidéki vállalkozónők három típusát: az anyavállalkozókat, a karrierváltókat és a nosztalgiavállalkozókat azonosítja.
The paper seeks to understand the influences of development policy initiatives on territorial in-tegration. Through the analysis of Vértes Nature Park case study we aimed at exploring whether the ...territorial relationships of the stakeholders can be restructured by spatially based develop-ment. The aim of the paper is to present the mechanisms of territorial integration by a case study analysis of rural territorial development.Our findings show that the participation and involvement of stakeholders in rural develop-ment are determined by their role and status in the initiative, thus the initiator actors are the more active ones. The territorial relationships of stakeholders are increased and strengthened by the level of involvement in the activities of Vértes Nature Park. Nevertheless, the territorial closeness also affects the stakeholders’ involvement. Csákvár and its surroundings have central position in this territorial relationship. The acceptance of the principals of the initiatives is also affected by the territorial closeness and it limits the contested development initiatives.

Kutatásunkban a Vértesi NatúrPark példáján keresztül azt vizsgáltuk, hogy egy területi alapú fejlesztési kezdeményezés képes-e átalakítani az érintettek térbeli kapcsolatait. Jelen tanulmány célja, hogy egy fejlesztéspolitikai tárgyú esettanulmány segítségével mutassuk be a területi integráció mechanizmusait.Eredményeink azt mutatják, hogy a részvétel mértékét alapvetően meghatározza a szerep-lők státusza, a legaktívabbak az alapító tagok. A Vértesi Natúrpark programjaiban való rész-vétel és aktivitás mértéke növeli az egyéb jellegű térbeli kapcsolatok kiterjedtségét is. Az in-volváltságra hatással van a Vértesi Natúrparkhoz való térbeli közelség, ebből következően erős Csákvárnak és a környékének a szerepe az összefogásban. A térbeli közelségen alapuló integrált-ság a kezdeményezéssel való azonosulást is meghatározza és csökkenti a versengő elképzelések kibontakozását.
