The Proposed work intends to automate the detection and classification of diabetic retinopathy from retinal fundus image which is very important in ophthalmology. Most of the existing methods use ...handcrafted features and those are fed to the classifier for detection and classification purpose. Recently convolutional neural network (CNN) is used for this classification problem but the architecture of CNN is manually designed. In this work, a genetic algorithm based technique is proposed to automatically determine the parameters of CNN and then the network is used for classification of diabetic retinopathy. The proposed CNN model consists of a series of convolution and pooling layer used for feature extraction. Finally support vector machine (SVM) is used for classification. Hyper-parameters like number of convolution and pooling layer, number of kernel and kernel size of convolution layer are determined by using the genetic algorithm. The proposed methodology is tested on publicly available Messidor dataset. The proposed method has achieved accuracy of 0.9867 and AUC of 0.9933. Experimental result shows that proposed auto-tuned CNN performs significantly better than the existing methods. Use of CNN takes away the burden of designing the image features and on the other hand genetic algorithm based methodology automates the design of CNN hyper-parameters.

Aim The aim of the study is to investigate the trends in adult height between two consecutive surveys of NHFS and explore differences across variables such as gender, wealth, social groups etc. ...Methods We used the NFHS-II (1998-99), NFHS-III (2005-2006) and NFHS-IV (2015-16) (all three for women and last two for men) data to examine the trends in average height. Comparison was done between the two age strata of 15-25 and 26-50 years, across both male and female, to assess the trends. Results Between NFHS-III and NFHS-IV, the average height of women in the age group of 15-25 showed a decline by 0.12 cm 95% CI, -0.24 to 0.00, p-0.051 while in the 26-50 years age strata it demonstrated significant improvement in the mean height by 0.13 cm 95% CI, 0.02 to 0.023, p-0.015. However, Between NFHS III and IV, the average height of women in the poorest wealth index category registered a significant decline -0.57cm, 95% CI, -076 to -0.37, p-0.000. Between NFHS III and IV, the average height of Scheduled Tribe (ST) women in the age group of 15-25 years also exhibited a significant decline by 0.42 cm, 95% CI, -0.73 to -0.12, p-0.007. Among men, between the two surveys, both the age groups of 15-25 years and 26-50 years showed significant decline in average height: 1.10 cm 95% CI, -1.31 to -.099 cm, p-0.00 and 0.86 cm 95% CI, -1.03 to -0.69, p-0.000, respectively. Conclusion In the context of an overall increase in average heights worldwide the decline in average height of adults in India is alarming and demands an urgent enquiry. The argument for different standards of height for Indian population as different genetic group needs further scrutiny. However, the trends from India clearly underline the need to examine the non-genetic factors also to understand the interplay of genetic, nutritional and other social and environmental determinants on height.

Biomimetic behaviour in artificially created active matter that allows deterministic and controlled motility has become of growing interest in recent years. It is well known that phototrophic ...bacteria optimize their position with respect to light by phototaxis. Here, we describe how our fully artificial, magnetic and photocatalytic microswimmers undergo a specific type of behaviour that strongly resembles phototaxis: when crossing an illuminated stripe the particles repeatedly turn back towards the light once they reach the dark region, without any obvious reason for the particles to do so. In order to understand the origin of this behaviour we analyze different influences and elucidate through experiments and theoretical considerations that this behavior arises from a combination of orientational stabilization through activity and destabilizing Brownian motion. This interplay shows beautifully how simple physical effects can combine into complex behaviours.

India is facing severe ground water crisis. India has a long coast line. This study explores an optimized desalination unit driven by renewable energy for the coastline villages of Tamil Nadu, a south eastern state of India. This area is suffering from acute water crisis. In this analysis, economy and environmental impacts are simultaneously optimized. Demand and supply are estimated by the optimization process followed by multi criteria decision making approach. Renewable PV-wind-battery supported by a small diesel generator with reverse osmosis desalination technique is the optimum solution. Methodology may be used by policy makers for other places also. A minimum cost of water ($4.57/m3) and per year carbon di-oxide productions (2887 kg) are assessed for an assured water supply throughout the year.

Implementation of an error-corrected quantum computer is believed to require a quantum processor with a million or more physical qubits, and, in order to run such a processor, a quantum control ...system of similar scale will be required. Such a controller will need to be integrated within the cryogenic system and in close proximity with the quantum processor in order to make such a system practical. Here, we present a prototype cryogenic CMOS quantum controller designed in a 28-nm bulk CMOS process and optimized to implement a 16-word (4-bit) XY gate instruction set for controlling transmon qubits. After introducing the transmon qubit, including a discussion of how it is controlled, design considerations are discussed, with an emphasis on error rates and scalability. The circuit design is then discussed. Cryogenic performance of the underlying technology is presented, and the results of several quantum control experiments carried out using the integrated controller are described. This article ends with a comparison to the state of the art and a discussion of further research to be carried out. It has been shown that the quantum control IC achieves promising performance while dissipating less than 2 mW of total ac and dc power and requiring a digital data stream of less than 500 Mb/s.
