Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the one of the most common malignancies worldwide and its prognosis is extremely poor. Tripartite motif (TRIM) proteins play crucial roles in cancer cell biology but ...the function of tripartite motif 26 (TRIM26) has not been investigated. We demonstrated that low expression level of TRIM26 in tumor samples was significantly correlated with worse prognosis in HCC patients. We also demonstrated its expression level was associated with several clinicopathologic features such as AFP level and T stage of HCC patients. Furthermore, we validated that TRIM26 was significantly downregulated in HCC tissue compared with normal liver tissue. To further clarify the functional role of TRIM26 in HCC, We confirmed that TRIM26 silencing can promote cancer cell proliferation, colony forming, migration and invasion in vitro with HCC cell lines HepG2 and Bel-7402. Then we utilized bioinformatic tool to predict gene influenced by TRIM26, showing TRIM26 could modulate gene sets about cancer cell metabolism. In conclusion, we proved that TRIM26 is a novel tumor suppressor modulating multiple metabolism-related pathways in HCC. To our best knowledge, this is the first study to investigate the function of TRIM26 in cancer biology. Our findings provide useful insight into the mechanism of HCC origin and progression. Moreover, TRIM26 may represent a novel therapeutic target for HCC.

The aim of our work is to clarify the clinical implication and functional role of tripartite motif 21 (TRIM21) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We validated that TRIM21 was downregulated in liver ...cancer samples by immunohistochemical (IHC) staining. We also demonstrated that its downregulation was associated with several clinicopathologic features such as tumor numbers, T stage, Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) stage, and Cancer of the Liver Italian Program (CLIP) stage of HCC patients. Importantly, the expression of TRIM21 in tumor samples is significantly correlated with the prognosis of the patients. We further silenced TRIM21 in HCC cell HepG2 and LM3 and confirmed that TRIM21 silencing will promote cancer cell proliferation (CCK-8 assay), colony forming (plate colony-forming assay), migration (transwell assay), and the ability of antiapoptosis (annexin V-FITC/PI staining) in vitro. Then, we predicted gene sets influenced by TRIM21 by using bioinformatic tools. For the first time, we prove that TRIM21 is a potential tumor suppressor in HCC and its low expression indicates poor prognosis. Our findings provide useful insight into the mechanism of HCC origin and progression and offer clues to novel HCC therapies.

To clarify the clinical implications and functional role of the alanine-glyoxylate aminotransferase 2-like 1 (AGXT2L1) gene in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
We confirmed that AGXT2L1 was ...down-regulated in liver cancer samples by immunohistochemical (IHC) staining. We also demonstrated that this down-regulation was associated with several clinicopathological features such as alpha fetoprotein (AFP) serum level and T stage. Furthermore, we showed with Kaplan-Meier analysis that expression of AGXT2L1 in tumour samples was significantly correlated with patient prognosis. The bioinformatic tool indicated that AGXT2L1 plays a role in the lipid metabolic process of HCC tissue, while siRNA silenced the expression of AGXT2L1 in HCC 97H and LM3 cells, confirming that down-regulation of AGXT2L1 promotes the lipogenesis of cancer cells.
For the first time, we have shown that AGXT2L1 is down-regulated in HCC and its low expression indicates a poor prognosis. Our findings also demonstrated that AGXT2L1 is a crucial gene in the abnormal lipogenesis of HCC tissue.

In the present paper, a novel composite of BiOI/rGO with excellent visible-light photocatalytic activity was successfully fabricated via very different simple, fast and mild rapid microwave hydrothermal method. The BiOI/rGO −1(BG-1) was donated as a simple chemical mechanical and the BiOI/rGO −2(BG-2) was donated as one-step rapid microwave hydrothermal method. The BG-1 were composed of the BiOI microspheres with a diameter of about 1μm and mixed heterogeneously with graphene. While, the BG-2 were consist of the BiOI nanoplates with the thickness of approximately 20nm dispersed heterogeneously on the surface of rGO. The degradation of 40mg/L methylene blue (MB) and 20mg/L levofloxacin (LEV) under visible light irradiation can reach about 11 and 3 times than that of P25, respectively. Furthermore, the reactive species of hole was determined to dominant the photodegradation process. The intensive photocatlytic could ascribe to more effective electron transportation and separations, this conclusion was different with other studies. A possible photocatalytic mechanism of BG-2 was also proposed.

Doxycycline is an alternative antibiotic drug for the treatment of syphilis, but data on its efficacy, especially data on its efficacy against late latent syphilis, are limited. A retrospective study ...was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of doxycycline for the treatment of patients with different stages of syphilis. Patients who received doxycycline treatment between June 2011 and June 2014 were involved. The serological response to doxycycline was defined as either a negative toluidine red unheated serum test (TRUST) result or a ≥4-fold decrease in titer at 12 months following the treatment. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify factors associated with the serological response. During the study period, a total of 163 syphilis patients were treated with doxycycline, and 118 patients completed doxycycline treatment and the 12-month follow-up. Among the 118 patients, the serological response rate at 12 months was 100.0% (7/7) in patients with primary syphilis, 96.9% (62/64) in patients with secondary syphilis, 91.3% (21/23) in patients with early latent syphilis, and 79.2% (19/24) in patients with late latent syphilis. The total serological response rates were 92.4% (109/118) for preprotocol (PP) patients and 66.9% (109/163) for all intention-to-treat (ITT) patients. In multivariate analysis, patients who serologically responded at 12 months following treatment were positively associated with a higher baseline TRUST titer and an earlier syphilis stage than nonresponders. Our study showed excellent treatment outcomes in patients with different stages of syphilis. Our data, along with those from other reports, support the usage of doxycycline as a good alternative therapeutic option in the treatment of syphilis.
Abstract
Bacterial vaginitis (BV) is a syndrome of increased vaginal discharge, fishy smelling leucorrhea, and itching and burning vulva caused by the microecological imbalance in the vagina induced ...by mixture of Gardnerella vaginalis (GV) and some anaerobic bacteria. Fenticonazole, an imidazole derivative and antimicrobial compound, has been demonstrated to exert effective therapeutic effects in mixed vaginitis. Accordingly, our study was designed to explore the potential role of fenticonazole in GV-infected BV mouse models. Female C57/BL6 mice were injected intraperitoneally with β-estradiol 3 days before and on the day of GV infection to maintain a pseudoestrus state. On the day of infection, mice were intravaginally inoculated with 20 µl of a suspension of GV (6 × 106 CFU/ml). Fenticonazole was administered as 2% vaginal cream (0.2 mg each mouse) by intravaginal application once a day for 3 days beginning the day of infection. At day 3 postinfection, the mice were sacrificed and vaginal washes were harvested. GV proliferation and Lactobacillus content were calculated in the vaginal lavage. Neutrophil counts in the vaginal lavage were observed through Pap staining. Myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity and proinflammatory cytokine (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, iNOS, COX2, and NF-κB) levels in vaginal tissues were measured by ELISA and western blotting. Vaginal tissues were stained by hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) to examine the exfoliation of vaginal epithelial cells. GV infection increased GV proliferation and neutrophil counts but reduced Lactobacillus content in the vaginal lavage, as well as enhanced MPO activity, proinflammatory cytokine levels, and the exfoliation of vaginal epithelial cells in vaginal tissues of BV mouse models. However, administration of fenticonazole significantly ameliorated the above phenomena. Fenticonazole greatly improves the symptoms of GV-induced BV in mouse models.
Our study clarified the effective therapeutic effects of fenticonazole on Gardnerella vaginalis-induced bacterial vaginitis in mouse models.

The composite materials of γ-Fe2O3/BiOI are synthesized by sol-gel and microwave hydrothermal method, in which γ-Fe2O3 is the magnetic carrier. The composition and property of the composite catalyst are studied by XRD, TEM, XPS, and UV-vis DRS methods etc. The results show that γ-Fe2O3 is uniformly distributed around BiOI nanosheets in the γ-Fe2O3/BiOI sample, thus making the p-n heterojunction composite catalyst material which features the band gap of 1.75 eV, the average pore size of 6.756 nm, the specific surface area of 46.722 m2/g and good superparamagnetism. It is also used to degrade organic dyes (methyl orange, MO) and antibiotics (sulfapyridine, SP) in waste water. Irradiated by tungsten lamp for 120 min with the composite catalyst material as the catalyst, MO has the photocatalytic degradation efficiency of 67.6% and SP of 64.1%, 20% and 30% higher than those when pure BiOI is used as the catalyst, respectively. The composite catalyst still maintains excellent catalyst efficiency after five times recycling. The enhanced catalytic performance of the composite material is attributed to the effective separation of the electrons and holes in p-n heterojunction built by γ-Fe2O3 and BiOI. The active species of the photodegradation process were h+ and •OH.

Herein, we prepare novel composites of α-Fe2O3/BiOI photocatalysts by one step microwave hydrothermal process. The SEM and TEM characterization results suggest microsphere shaped of BiOI with α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles decorated on the surface of BiOI nanosheets. According to the results of UV-vis DRS measurements, α-Fe2O3/BiOI exhibited more visible light adsorption. The composite exhibited the highest photoactivity for decomposition of methyl orange (MO) and antibiotics tetracycline (Tc) superior to that of the pure α-Fe2O3 and BiOI in the visible light. The degradation rate constant is 2.3 times and 2.0 times higher than that of pure BiOI and α-Fe2O3 under the same conditions for degradation MO and Tc respectively. The photodegradation performances of α-Fe2O3/BiOI composites were also investigated under different light sources irradiation. Based on the analysis results of radical capture experiment, the enhanced photocatalytic efficiency of α-Fe2O3/BiOI photocatalyst can be mainly indentified to be the dominant active species of hole (h+) and superoxide radical(O2−).
