Chiral stereochemistry is a unique and fundamental strategy that determines the interaction of bacteria cells with chiral biomolecules and stereochemical surfaces. The interaction between bacteria ...and material surface (molecular chirality or supramolecular chirality) plays a significant role in modulating antibacterial performance. Herein, we developed inherent chiral antibacterial hydrogels by modifying the carboxyl groups of our previously reported supramolecular gelator (LPF-left handed phenylalanine gelator and DPF- right handed phenylalanine gelator) with 2-amino-5-methylthiazole (MTZ) and 5-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2- thiol (TDZ). The new L/D-gelator molecules initiate self-assembly to form hydrogels through non-covalent interactions (Hydrogen bonding and π-π interactions) verified by FTIR and CD spectroscopy. Morphological studies of the xerogels revealed left and right-handed chiral nanofibers for the gelators' L-form and D-form, respectively. The resulting hydrogels exhibited inherent antibacterial activity against Gram-positive (Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram-negative (Pseudomonas aeruginosa) bacteria, with TDZ hydrogels showing more significant antibacterial activity than MTZ hydrogels. Interestingly, the D-form (having right-handed nanofibers) of both hydrogels (MTZ and TDZ) exhibited higher antibacterial activities compared with the left-handed nanofibrous hydrogels (L-form) attributed to the stereoselective interaction of the chiral helical nanofiber. Moreover, the amplification of chirality moving from a molecular to a supramolecular level essentially improved the antibacterial action. Our results provide deep insight into the development of unique supramolecular chiral antimicrobial agents and hint at the potentiality of right-handed nanofibers (D-form) having enhanced antibacterial activity.
Chiral stereochemistry plays a significant role in many biological processes, which determines the interaction of bacteria cells with chiral biomolecules. The interaction between bacteria and material surface (molecular chirality or supramolecular chirality) plays a significant role in modulating antibacterial performance. Here, we deigned and synthesized unique inherent biocompatible supramolecular chiral hydrogel. From this study we concluded that the D-form (having right-handed nanofibers) of hydrogels exhibited higher antibacterial activities compared with the left-handed nanofibrous hydrogels (L-form) attributed to the stereoselective interaction of the chiral helical nanofiber. Additionally, this study also explored the amplification of chirality moving from a molecular to a supramolecular level essentially improved the antibacterial action.

The controllable and safe hydrogen storage technologies are widely recognized as the main bottleneck for the accomplishment of sustainable hydrogen energy. Ammonia borane (AB) has regarded as a ...competitive candidate for chemical hydrogen storage. However, developing efficient yet high-performance catalysts towards hydrogen evolution from AB hydrolysis remains an enormous challenge. Herein, cobalt phosphide nanosheets are synthesized by a facile salt-assisted along with low-temperature phosphidation strategy for simultaneously modulating its morphology and electronic structure, and function as hydrogen evolution photocatalysts. Impressively, the Co2P nanosheets display extraordinary performance with a record high turnover frequency of 44.9 min−1, outperforming most of the noble-metal-free catalysts reported to date. This remarkable performance is attributed to its desired nanosheets structure, featuring with high specific surface area, abundant exposed active sites, and short charge diffusion paths. Our findings provide a novel strategy for regulating metal phosphides with desired phase structure and morphology for energy-related applications and beyond.

This letter studies how to accurately estimate channels for millimeter wave (mmWave) massive MIMO in presence of partially coherent phase offsets. This is motivated by the observation that the ...received pilots share almost the same phase offset in the same training frame, but have different phase offsets across different training frames. In consideration of this property, we propose a two-stage estimation scheme to jointly estimate channels and phase offsets for mmWave massive MIMO systems. Firstly, based on an on- grid signal model, we use expectation-maximization generalized approximate message passing (EM-GAMP) algorithm to estimate the sparse angle-domain channel and phase offsets. Secondly, knowing the on- grid estimation results, we recast the formulation so as to reduce the number of unknown channel parameters to be refined. Then an EM-based algorithm is proposed to refine the channel and phase offsets estimates. Simulation results reveal substantial performance improvement over the existing counterparts.

The present study was designed to evaluate the dynamic survival and recurrence of remnant gastric cancer (RGC) after radical resection and to provide a reference for the development of personalized ...follow‐up strategies. A total of 298 patients were analyzed for their 3‐year conditional overall survival (COS3), 3‐year conditional disease‐specific survival (CDSS3), corresponding recurrence and pattern changes, and associated risk factors. The 5‐year overall survival (OS) and the 5‐year disease‐specific survival (DSS) of the entire cohort were 41.2% and 45.8%, respectively. The COS3 and CDDS3 of RGC patients who survived for 5 years were 84.0% and 89.8%, respectively. The conditional survival in patients with unfavorable prognostic characteristics showed greater growth over time than in those with favorable prognostic characteristics (eg, COS3, ≥T3: 46.4%‐83.0%, Δ36.6% vs ≤T2: 82.4%‐85.7%, Δ3.3%; P < 0.001). Most recurrences (93.5%) occurred in the first 3 years after surgery. The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) stage was the only factor that affected recurrence. Time‐dependent Cox regression showed that for both OS and DSS, after 4 years of survival, the common prognostic factors that were initially judged lost their ability to predict survival (P > 0.05). Time‐dependent logistic regression analysis showed that the AJCC stage independently affected recurrence within 2 years after surgery (P < 0.05). A postoperative follow‐up model was developed for RGC patients. In conclusion, patients with RGC usually have a high likelihood of death or recurrence within 3 years after radical surgery. We developed a postoperative follow‐up model for RGC patients of different stages, which may affect the design of future clinical trials.

Agricultural soils are often polluted with a variety of pesticides. Unfortunately, natural microorganisms lack the capacity to simultaneously degrade different types of pesticides. Currently, ...synthetic biology provides powerful approaches to create versatile degraders. In this work, a biosafety strain Pseudomonas putida KT2440 was engineered for simultaneous degradation of organophosphates, pyrethroids, and carbamates, enhanced oxygen-sequestering capability, and real-time monitoring by targeted insertion of four pesticide-degrading genes, vgb, and gfp into the chromosome using a scarless genome-editing method. The resulting recombinant strain, designated as P. putida KTUe, could completely degrade 50mg/L methyl parathion, chlorpyrifos, fenpropathrin, cypermethrin, carbofuran and carbaryl within 30h when incubated in M9 minimal medium supplemented with 20g/L glucose. In soil remediation studies, all the tested six pesticides (50mg/kg soil each) were completely removed in soils inoculated with P. putida KTUe within 15days. Moreover, Vitreoscilla hemoglobin (VHb)-expressing P. putida KTUe grew faster than P. putida KTUd without VHb expression under oxygen-limited conditions, suggesting that VHb may enhance the capability of this recombinant strain to sequester oxygen. Furthermore, the green fluorescence was observed on the P. putida KTUe cells, suggesting that this green fluorescent protein (GFP)-marked strain may be tracked by fluorescence during bioremediation. Therefore, this recombinant strain may serve as a promising candidate for in situ bioremediation of soil contaminated with multiple pesticides. This work not only underscores the value of P. putida KT2440 as an ideal host for bioremediation but also highlights the power of synthetic biology for expanding the degradation capability of natural degraders.

Gastrointestinal pan-adenocarcinomas, which mainly include adenocarcinomas of the esophagus, stomach, colon, and rectum, place a heavy burden on society owing to their poor prognoses. Since aberrant ...alternative splicing (AS) are starting to be considered as efficacious signatures for tumor prognosis predicting and therapeutic targets, systematic analysis of AS events is urgent.
Prognosis-related AS events were selected by using univariate COX regression analysis. Gene functional enrichment analysis revealed the pathways enriched by prognosis-related AS. Then, prognostic signatures based on AS events were developed for prognosis prediction. Potential mechanism to regulate splicing events by splicing factors was analyzed via Pearson correlation and regulatory networks were constructed.
A total of 967, 918, 674, and 406 AS events were identified as prognosis-related AS events in esophagus, stomach, colon, and rectum adenocarcinomas, respectively. Survival-associated AS events were distinguishing in the four subtypes of adenocarcinoma. Furthermore, computational algorithm results indicated that perturbation of ribosome and ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis pathways were the potential molecular mechanisms corresponding to inferior prognoses. Most notably, several prognostic signatures based on AS events displayed moderate performance in prognosis predicting. The area under curve values of the time-dependent receiver operating characteristic were 0.961, 0.871, 0.870, and 0.890 in esophagus, stomach, colon, and rectum adenocarcinomas. Survival-associated splicing factors were submitted to construct the AS regulatory network, which could be an underlying mechanism of AS events.
AS may could be ideal indiactors in the prognosis of gastrointestinal pan-adenocarcinomas. Exploring interesting splicing regulatory networks is conducive to solve the puzzles of AS.

The therapeutic effects and application of radiotherapy are restricted to some extent due to low radiosensitivity of tumor tissues and adverse effects by excess dosage. Current radiosensitizers are ...confronted with problems in clinical translation because of complicated manufacture technique and high cost. In this research, we have synthesized a radiosensitizer with advantages in low cost and mass production, which could be applied to CT imaging and enhanced radiotherapy in breast cancer, namely Bi-DTPA. It not only enhanced tumor CT imaging which resulted in better therapeutic accuracy, but also realized radiotherapy sensitization by producing massive ROS and inhibit tumor proliferation, providing a sound perspective in the clinical translation of the radiosensitizer.
•Traditional radiotherapy sensitizers had poor safety and high production cost.•Bi-DTPA was simple to synthesize, low cost and could sensitize radiotherapy.•Bi-DTPA could be used in the treatment of breast tumors under the guidance of CT.

Background
Computed tomography (CT) is essential for pulmonary nodule detection in diagnosing lung cancer. As deep learning algorithms have recently been regarded as a promising technique in medical ...fields, we attempt to integrate a well‐trained deep learning algorithm to detect and classify pulmonary nodules derived from clinical CT images.
Materials and Methods
Open‐source data sets and multicenter data sets have been used in this study. A three‐dimensional convolutional neural network (CNN) was designed to detect pulmonary nodules and classify them into malignant or benign diseases based on pathologically and laboratory proven results.
Results
The sensitivity and specificity of this well‐trained model were found to be 84.4% (95% confidence interval CI, 80.5%–88.3%) and 83.0% (95% CI, 79.5%–86.5%), respectively. Subgroup analysis of smaller nodules (<10 mm) have demonstrated remarkable sensitivity and specificity, similar to that of larger nodules (10–30 mm). Additional model validation was implemented by comparing manual assessments done by different ranks of doctors with those performed by three‐dimensional CNN. The results show that the performance of the CNN model was superior to manual assessment.
Conclusion
Under the companion diagnostics, the three‐dimensional CNN with a deep learning algorithm may assist radiologists in the future by providing accurate and timely information for diagnosing pulmonary nodules in regular clinical practices.
Implications for Practice
The three‐dimensional convolutional neural network described in this article demonstrated both high sensitivity and high specificity in classifying pulmonary nodules regardless of diameters as well as superiority compared with manual assessment. Although it still warrants further improvement and validation in larger screening cohorts, its clinical application could definitely facilitate and assist doctors in clinical practice.

Cell therapy is a promising approach for ischemic tissue regeneration. However, high death rate of delivered cells under low oxygen condition, and poor cell retention in tissues largely limit the ...therapeutic efficacy. Using cell carriers with high oxygen preservation has potential to improve cell survival. To increase cell retention, cell carriers that can quickly solidify at 37 °C so as to efficiently immobilize the carriers and cells in the tissues are necessary. Yet there lacks cell carriers with these combined properties. In this work, we have developed a family of high oxygen preservation and fast gelation hydrogels based on N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) copolymers. The hydrogels were synthesized by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization of NIPAAm, acrylate-oligolactide (AOLA), 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), and methacrylate-poly(ethylene glycol)-perfluorooctane (MAPEGPFC). The hydrogel solutions exhibited sol-gel temperatures around room temperature and were flowable and injectable at 4°C. They can quickly solidify (≤6 s) at 37°C to form flexible gels. These hydrogels lost 9.4~29.4% of their mass after incubation in Dulbecco's Phosphate-Buffered Saline (DPBS) for 4 weeks. The hydrogels exhibited a greater oxygen partial pressure than DPBS after being transferred from a 21% O2 condition to a 1% O2 condition. When bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) were encapsulated in the hydrogels and cultured under 1% O2, the cells survived and proliferated during the 14-day culture period. In contrast, the cells experienced extensive death in the control hydrogel that had low oxygen preservation capability. The hydrogels possessed excellent biocompatibility. The final degradation products did not provoke cell death even when the concentration was as high as 15 mg/ml, and the hydrogel implantation did not induce substantial inflammation. These hydrogels are promising as cell carriers for cell transplantation into ischemic tissues.
Stem cell therapy for ischemic tissues experiences low therapeutic efficacy largely due to poor cell survival under low oxygen condition. Using cell carriers with high oxygen preservation capability has potential to improve cell survival. In this work, we have developed a family of hydrogels with this property. These hydrogels promoted the encapsulated stem cell survival and growth under low oxygen condition.
