The work concerns the development of aerogel radiators for RICH detectors. Aerogel tiles with a refractive index of 1.05 were tested with a RICH prototype on the electron beam on the VEPP-4M ...collider. It has been shown that polishing with silk tissue yields good surface quality, the amount of light loss at this surface being about 5–7%. The Cherenkov angle resolution was measured for a tile in two conditions: with a clean exit face and with a polished exit face. The number of photons detected was 13.3 and 12.7 for the clean and polished surfaces, respectively. The Cherenkov angle resolution for the polished surface is 55% worse, which can be explained with the forward scattering on the polished surface. A tile with a crack inside was also tested. The experimental data show that the Cherenkov angle resolution is the same for tracks crossing the crack area and in a crack-free area.

The sizes of aerogel nanopores from the measured broadening of rotational-vibrational CO lines caused by collisions with nanopore walls have been determined. It has been shown that the sizes of ...nanopores with a diameter of 15–25 nm can be reliably assessed from the half-widths of spectral lines measured on a high-resolution Fourier spectrometer and agree well with the experimental data found from the low-temperature adsorption of nitrogen.

The threshold Cerenkov counter based on dense aerogel with refraction index n=1.13 is described. This counter is used for pi/K separation at SND detector at VEPP-2000 e super(+)e super(-) collider in ...the particle momentum range up to 1 GeV/c. The results on separation efficiency for hadrons produced in e super(+)e super(-) annihilation are presented.
Particle identification system based on aerogel threshold Cherenkov counters ASHIPH (Aerogel SHifter PHotomultiplier) was installed in the KEDR detector in 2013. The system consists of 160 counters ...arranged in two layers and contains 1000 liters of aerogel with refractive index of 1.05 and 160 MCP PMTs with multialkali photocathode. The efficiency of relativistic particles detection was measured. Long-term stability of ASHIPH counters was studied. The main reasons of efficiency degradation are presented.

(in 100 times higher than in operated today experiments in this energy region) is expected. To perform broad experimental program of the project successfully the excellent particle identification (PID) system is needed. A number of options are under consideration. Three of them are described in the paper: Focusing Aerogel RICH (FARICH) detector, threshold Cherenkov counters based on ASHIPH (Aerogel SHifter PHotomultiplier) technique with 6000 litres of aerogel of two refractive indexes and time-of-flight counters with TOP (Time of Propagation) approach with time resolution better than 30 ps. Comparison of PID capabilities with help of parametric simulation is given.

In this work we investigate a Ring Imaging Cherenkov detector based on “focusing” aerogel (FARICH). In the proximity focusing RICH, one of the main factors determining precision of ring radius ...measurements is a finite thickness of a radiator. FARICH development aims at the reduction of this effect by means of using multilayer aerogel. Two options have been considered.
Single ring: refraction index and thickness of each layer are adjusted in such a way that Cherenkov rings from different layers are superimposed on each other.
Multi-ring: refraction index and thickness of each layer are adjusted so that ring images from different layers have different radii and are clearly separated from each other.
For the first time in the world we have developed a technique for production of multilayer aerogels (SAN-MULTI). A few samples consisting of four aerogel layers with indices from 1.022 to 1.030 have been produced.
A GEANT4 based simulation program has been developed. Velocity resolution was investigated for different momenta and particle incidence angles. It was shown that velocity resolution of

The influence of the magnetic medium can lead to peculiar interaction between ferromagnetic nanoparticles (NPs). Most research in this area involves analysis of the interplay between magnetic ...anisotropy and exchange coupling. Increasing the average interparticle distance leads to the dominant role of the random magnetic anisotropy. Here we study the interparticle interaction in a carbon nanotube (CNT) matrix with low ferromagnetic NP content. Samples were synthesized by floating catalyst chemical vapor deposition. We found that below some critical NP concentration, when NPs are intercalated only inside CNTs, and at low temperatures, the extended magnetic order, of up to 150 nm, presents in our samples. It is shown by analyzing the correlation functions of the magnetic anisotropy axes that the extended order is not simply due to random anisotropy but is associated with the coherent magnetic anisotropy, which is strengthened by the CNT alignment. With increasing temperature the extended magnetic order is lost. Above the critical NP concentration, when NPs start to be intercalated not only into inner CNT channels, but also outside CNTs, the coherent anisotropy weakens and the exchange coupling dominates in the whole temperature range. We can make a connection with the various correlation functions using the generalized expression for the law of the approach to saturation and show that these different correlation functions reflect the peculiarities in the interparticle interaction inside CNTs. Moreover, we can extract such important micromagnetic parameters like the exchange field, local fields of random and coherent anisotropies, as well as their temperature and NP concentration dependencies.
