Applicability of the Mueller Matrix (MM) polarimetry for the optical characterization of the olive and sunflower oils were tested. For this aim, linear dichroism and optical rotation of circular ...birefringence of the oil samples divided into three comparable groups as pure olive oil (heated and non-heated), pure sunflower oil (heated and non-heated) and mixture of olive oil and sun flower were measured. Principal Component Analysis was also utilized in interpreting the results, through dimensional reduction. Results reveal the potential of using MM polarimetry as a low cost and simple method in authentication of olive oil, as opposed to its higher cost and complex alternatives such as Raman Spectrometry, Chromatography and NMR.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic factors of recurrence in uterine tumors resembling ovarian sex-cord tumors (UTROSCT) and to determine clinical-pathological characteristics, ...treatment options and outcome.
An electronic literature search was conducted from 1976 to 2018. After the comprehensive evaluation and conjunction with our case, the study included 79 cases.
The median age at initial diagnosis was 49 years (range; 16-86 years). The age was under 40 years in 21 (26.6%) patients. Whereas 68 patients underwent at least hysterectomy, 9 patients had organ sparing surgery. There was necrosis in 4 (5.1%) patients, atypia in 16 (20.3%) patients, and infiltrative tumor border in 34 (43%) patients. At least one mitosis per 10 high power fields was determined in 36 (45.5%) patients. The tumor involved at least part of the myometrium in 54 (68.3%) patients. Median follow-up time was 30 months (range; 3-296 months). Recurrence was determined in 5 (6.3%) patients. The disease free survival (DFS) was significantly related only to surgery type. None of the pathologic features were associated with DFS. The 5-year DFS was 86% and 96% in patients who underwent organ sparing surgery or not, respectively (p=0.038).
The accurate pathologic diagnosis of UTROSCT has great value in shaping surgical management and management during the follow-up period. Organ sparing surgery was related to poor DFS. Although recurrence is rare, it should be kept in mind for patients with UTROSCT.

Quercetin (QU) is an important flavonoid compound presenting lots of biological activities, but its application has been limited due to its low aqueous solubility and instability. In this study, ...conducted to improve these properties of the quercetin, quercetin-encapsulated PLGA nanoparticles were prepared, characterized, and evaluated for antioxidant and hemolytic activity. Nanoparticles were produced by single emulsion solvent evaporation method. Four different process parameters initial QU amount, PVA concentration, PVA volume, and initial PLGA amount were investigated to obtain the nanoparticles which have minimum particle size and maximum entrapment efficiency. Synthesized nanoparticles were evaluated for particle size, entrapment efficiency, and reaction yield. Additionally, antioxidant properties and
in-vitro
hemolytic activity of quercetin loaded nanoparticles with different particle size were also evaluated for the first time in the literature. The antioxidant activity results showed that nanoparticles have different antioxidant activity, depending on the amount of quercetin release from nanoparticles at different particle sizes. The hemolytic activity results show that all nanoparticles exhibited favorable compatibility to red blood cells and no significant hemolytic effect was observed.

Introduction
The applied heat level and expose time are main issues in certain operations/applications, such as a laser assisted tissue welding, preparation of collagen-based biomaterials (films, ...implants). Therefore, the precise investigation of these parameters is crucial. The results can serve as a guideline to assess potential effects while maintaining the functionality of the collagen structures.
Methods
Collagen tissues from rat-tail tendon, calfskin, and bones are soaked in buffer solutions, then examined by microscope at different temperature levels.
Results
Increase in temperature reduced the microscopically observed collagen crimp contrast for calfskin and rat-tail tendons but not for bone tissues. The contrast level for rat tail tendon decreased down to 80% of its initial value at 37, 157, and 266 s for 70, 65, and 60 °C, respectively. The decrease in the crimp contrast was about only 25% and 2% at 55 and 50 °C after 2 h, respectively. 50% drop in contrast level was occurred for the skin samples at 16, 90, 110 and 1900 s for 70, 65, and 60 °C, respectively. The bone samples, did not show any significant differences in contrast levels.
Conclusion
The observed denaturation behaviours are in line with Arrhenius Law. This study could be expanded on to other types of tissues at wider temperature ranges to make a guideline for biological/medical processes that radiate heat in order to assess their side effects on collagen and other proteins.

This study aims to assess the diagnostic performance of a novel intraoperative ex vivo ultrasonography technique in determining deep myometrial invasion (MI) in patients with apparently low-risk ...endometrial cancer (EC).
This prospective study included patients with type I EC who underwent staging laparotomy at Hacettepe University Hospital from December 2011 to September 2014. After hysterectomy, a radiologist with special training in gynecology examined the uterus ex vivo using a 12-MHz superficial linear probe. The specimen was sent for intraoperative frozen section (FS) analysis. The results were compared with permanent section reports.
In total, 45 female patients were eligible for analysis. Intraoperative ex vivo high-resolution sonography (IEVHS) correctly assessed depth of MI in 39 of 45 cases (86.6%) and overestimated it in 5 cases (11.1%). Only 1 case with deep infiltration was underestimated by IEVHS as invasion of less than one half of the myometrium. Frozen section correctly identified depth of MI in 41 of 46 cases (91.1%), overestimated it in 1 case (2.2%), and underestimated it in 3 cases (6.6%). The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of IEVHS and FS for assessment of deep MI were 87.5%, 86.4%, 58.3%, and 96.9%, and 62.5%, 97.3%, 83.3%, and 92.3%, respectively.
Intraoperative ex vivo high-resolution sonography is a novel technique for assessing MI in EC. Its high sensitivity for deep MI could be useful as an adjunct to FS (enabling pathologists to obtain targeted FS slices) and could improve the accuracy of FS.
